Tunneling Violates Special Relativity
Experiments with evanescent modes and tunneling particles have shown that i)
their signal velocity may be faster than light, ii) they are described by
virtual particles, iii) they are nonlocal and act at a distance, iv)
experimental tunneling data of phonons, photons, and electrons display a
universal scattering time at the tunneling barrier front, and v) the properties
of evanescent, i.e. tunneling modes is not compatible with the special theory
of relativity
On the Study of Hyperbolic Triangles and Circles by Hyperbolic Barycentric Coordinates in Relativistic Hyperbolic Geometry
Barycentric coordinates are commonly used in Euclidean geometry. Following
the adaptation of barycentric coordinates for use in hyperbolic geometry in
recently published books on analytic hyperbolic geometry, known and novel
results concerning triangles and circles in the hyperbolic geometry of
Lobachevsky and Bolyai are discovered. Among the novel results are the
hyperbolic counterparts of important theorems in Euclidean geometry. These are:
(1) the Inscribed Gyroangle Theorem, (ii) the Gyrotangent-Gyrosecant Theorem,
(iii) the Intersecting Gyrosecants Theorem, and (iv) the Intersecting Gyrochord
Theorem. Here in gyrolanguage, the language of analytic hyperbolic geometry, we
prefix a gyro to any term that describes a concept in Euclidean geometry and in
associative algebra to mean the analogous concept in hyperbolic geometry and
nonassociative algebra. Outstanding examples are {\it gyrogroups} and {\it
gyrovector spaces}, and Einstein addition being both {\it gyrocommutative} and
{\it gyroassociative}. The prefix "gyro" stems from "gyration", which is the
mathematical abstraction of the special relativistic effect known as "Thomas
precession".Comment: 78 pages, 26 figure
Avoiding degenerate coframes in an affine gauge approach to quantum gravity
In quantum models of gravity, it is surmized that configurations with
degenerate coframes could occur during topology change of the underlying
spacetime structure. However, the coframe is not the true Yang--Mills type
gauge field of the translations, since it lacks the inhomogeneous gradient term
in the gauge transformations. By explicitly restoring this ``hidden" piece
within the framework of the affine gauge approach to gravity, one can avoid the
metric or coframe degeneracy which would otherwise interfere with the
integrations within the path integral. This is an important advantage for
quantization.Comment: 14 pages, Preprint Cologne-thp-1993-H
Vacuum Fluctuations, Geometric Modular Action and Relativistic Quantum Information Theory
A summary of some lines of ideas leading to model-independent frameworks of
relativistic quantum field theory is given. It is followed by a discussion of
the Reeh-Schlieder theorem and geometric modular action of Tomita-Takesaki
modular objects associated with the quantum field vacuum state and certain
algebras of observables. The distillability concept, which is significant in
specifying useful entanglement in quantum information theory, is discussed
within the setting of general relativistic quantum field theory.Comment: 26 pages. Contribution for the Proceedings of a Conference on Special

A spatially-VSL gravity model with 1-PN limit of GRT
A scalar gravity model is developed according the 'geometric conventionalist'
approach introduced by Poincare (Einstein 1921, Poincare 1905, Reichenbach
1957, Gruenbaum1973). In principle this approach allows an alternative
interpretation and formulation of General Relativity Theory (GRT), with
distinct i) physical congruence standard, and ii) gravitation dynamics
according Hamilton-Lagrange mechanics, while iii) retaining empirical
indistinguishability with GRT. In this scalar model the congruence standards
have been expressed as gravitationally modified Lorentz Transformations
(Broekaert 2002). The first type of these transformations relate quantities
observed by gravitationally 'affected' (natural geometry) and 'unaffected'
(coordinate geometry) observers and explicitly reveal a spatially variable
speed of light (VSL). The second type shunts the unaffected perspective and
relates affected observers, recovering i) the invariance of the locally
observed velocity of light, and ii) the local Minkowski metric (Broekaert
2003). In the case of a static gravitation field the model retrieves the
phenomenology implied by the Schwarzschild metric. The case with proper source
kinematics is now described by introduction of a 'sweep velocity' field w: The
model then provides a hamiltonian description for particles and photons in full
accordance with the first Post-Newtonian approximation of GRT (Weinberg 1972,
Will 1993).Comment: v1: 11 pages, GR17 conf. paper, Dublin 2004, v2: WEP issue solved,

Correlation Entropy of an Interacting Quantum Field and H-theorem for the O(N) Model
Following the paradigm of Boltzmann-BBGKY we propose a correlation entropy
(of the nth order) for an interacting quantum field, obtained by `slaving'
(truncation with causal factorization) of the higher (n+1 th) order correlation
functions in the Schwinger-Dyson system of equations. This renders an otherwise
closed system effectively open where dissipation arises. The concept of
correlation entropy is useful for addressing issues related to thermalization.
As a small yet important step in that direction we prove an H-theorem for the
correlation entropy of a quantum mechanical O(N) model with a Closed Time Path
Two Particle Irreducible Effective Action at the level of Next-to-Leading-Order
large N approximation. This model may be regarded as a field theory in
space dimensions.Comment: 22 page
Consistency analysis of a nonbirefringent Lorentz-violating planar model
In this work analyze the physical consistency of a nonbirefringent
Lorentz-violating planar model via the analysis of the pole structure of its
Feynman propagators. The nonbirefringent planar model, obtained from the
dimensional reduction of the CPT-even gauge sector of the standard model
extension, is composed of a gauge and a scalar fields, being affected by
Lorentz-violating (LIV) coefficients encoded in the symmetric tensor
. The propagator of the gauge field is explicitly evaluated
and expressed in terms of linear independent symmetric tensors, presenting only
one physical mode. The same holds for the scalar propagator. A consistency
analysis is performed based on the poles of the propagators. The isotropic
parity-even sector is stable, causal and unitary mode for .
On the other hand, the anisotropic sector is stable and unitary but in general
noncausal. Finally, it is shown that this planar model interacting with a
Higgs field supports compactlike vortex configurations.Comment: 11 pages, revtex style, final revised versio
Teaching of Energy Issues: A debate proposal for a GLobal Reorientation
The growing awareness of serious difficulties in the learning of energy issues has produced a great deal of research, most of which is focused on specific conceptual aspects. In our opinion, the difficulties pointed out in the literature are interrelated and connected to other aspects (conceptual as well as procedural and axiological), which are not sufficiently taken into account in previous research. This paper aims to carry out a global analysis in order to avoid the more limited approaches that deal only with individual aspects. From this global analysis we have outlined 24 propositions that are put forward for debate to lay the foundations for a profound reorientation of the teaching of energy topics in upper high school courses, in order to facilitate a better scientific understanding of these topics, avoid many students' misconceptions and enhance awareness of the current situation of planetary emergency
