    Battery-Conscious, Economic, and Prioritization-Based Electric Vehicle Residential Scheduling

    Advances in communication technologies and protocols among vehicles, charging stations, and controllers have enabled the application of scheduling techniques to prioritize EV fleet charging. From the perspective of users, residential EV charging must particularly address cost-effective solutions to use energy more efficiently and preserve the lifetime of the battery—the most expensive element of an EV. Considering this matter, this research addresses a residential EV charging scheduling model including battery degradation aspects when discharging. Due to the non-linear characteristics of charging and battery degradation, we consider a mixed integer non-linearly constrained formulation with the aim of scheduling the charging and discharging of EVs to satisfy the following goals: prioritizing charging, reducing charging costs and battery degradation, and limiting the power demand requested to the distribution transformer. The results shows that, when EVs are discharged before charging up within a specific state-of-charge range, degradation can be reduced by 5.3%. All charging requests are completed before the next-day departure time, with 16.35% cost reduction achieved by scheduling charging during lower tariff prices, in addition to prevention of overloading of the distribution transformer

    A Diagnostic Study of the Global Distribution of Contrails, Part II: Future Air Traffic Scenarios

    The global distribution of the contrail coverage is computed for several scenarios of aviation in the years 2015 and 2050 and compared to 1992 using meteorological analysis data representative of present temperature and humidity conditions and assuming 0.5% cover in a reference region 30° W–30° E, 35° N–75° N covering parts of western Europe and the North Atlantic. The mean contrail coverage of the Earth is computed to increase by a factor of about three compared to 1992 and to reach 0.25% in 2015. For three different scenarios of aviation and for constant climatic conditions, the global mean contrail coverage reaches values between 0.26% and 0.75% for 2050. Contrail coverage increases more strongly than total fuel burn mainly because of more traffic in the upper troposphere and because of more efficient engines with cooler exhaust. The overall efficiency of propulsion is expected to grow from about 0.3 in the fleet average of 1992, to 0.4 in 2015, and to 0.5 in 2050. The expansion of air traffic makes Canada, Alaska, the North Pacific route from North America to Japan and most of the Asian continent new regions where contrails are expected to cover more than 0.5% on average

    Climate sensitivity of radiative impacts from transport systems

    Comparing individual components of a total climate impact is traditionally done in terms of radiative forcing. However, the climate impact of transport systems includes contributions that are likely to imply climate sensitivity parameters distinctly different from the “reference value” for a homogeneous CO2 perturbation. We propose to introduce efficacy factors for each component into the assessment. The way of proceeding is illustrated using aviation as an example, and prospects for evaluating the other transport system in the EU project QUANTIFY are given

    Development of clozapine tablets by direct compression - analysis of pharmaceutical equivalence by dissolution profiles

    The aim of this work was to develop clozapine tablets that can be classified as a pharmaceutical equivalent to a reference brand product. Tablets were produced by direct compression and dissolution tests were realized in order to evaluate the dissolution profiles. The results show that the tablets can be classified as immediate release dosage forms due to clozapine fast release, and such release was dependent on the amount of sodium croscarmelose in the formulation. Analysis of f1 and f2 factors was frustrated due to the fast drug release; the tablets were analyzed by the dissolution efficiency and the dissolution curve shape. The dissolution efficiency was higher than 98 % and the analysis of the dissolution shape curve showed that the tablets from one batch of the developed formulations were similar to the reference brand product. The clozapine tablets obtained in this study can be considered as pharmaceutically equivalent to the reference brand product.Colegio de Farmacéuticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire
