    Tether Elevator Crawler Systems (TECS)

    Get PDF
One of the needs of the experimenters on the space station is access to steady and controlled-variation microgravity environments. A method of providing these environments is to place the experiment on a tether attached to the space station. This provides a high degree of isolation from structural oscillations and vibrations. Crawlers can move these experiments along the tethers to preferred locations, much like an elevator. This report describes the motion control laws developed for these crawlers and the testing of laboratory models of these tether elevator crawlers

Data requirements for verification of ram glow chemistry

    Get PDF
A set of questions is posed regarding the surface chemistry producing the ram glow on the space shuttle. The questions surround verification of the chemical cycle involved in the physical processes leading to the glow. The questions, and a matrix of measurements required for most answers, are presented. The measurements include knowledge of the flux composition to and from a ram surface as well as spectroscopic signatures from the U to visible to IR. A pallet set of experiments proposed to accomplish the measurements is discussed. An interim experiment involving an available infrared instrument to be operated from the shuttle Orbiter cabin is also be discussed

FINANCIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF NORTH DAKOTA FARMS 1992-1994

End-of-year financial data from 700 farms enrolled in North Dakota Farm Business Management Education Program for the years 1992 to 1994 are analyzed according to 16 financial standards. All median profitability measures, median term debt coverage, term debt and capital margin, and median net farm income as a percent of gross revenue are lower in 1994 than in 1993. The median for all 16 financial measures deteriorated for 1994 in the south central and west regions due to lower livestock profitability. Financial performance of the north central region improved each of the three years.Agricultural Finance,

Auroral thermosphere temperatures from observations of 6300 A emissions

    Get PDF
Doppler temperatures determined from observations of the atomic oxygen OI 6300 A line during March 1984 at the University of Alaska/Fairbanks are presented. Temperatures are obtained from Fabry-Perot Interferometer pressure scans using a Fourier transform smoothing and fitting technique; this technique is presented in detail. The temperatures and the spread in the temperatures are consistent from day to day. On the clear nights of March 10 to 13, the temperatures were 800, 750, 750 and 800 K, respectively, with a spread of + or - 100 K. These temperatures are compared to the MSIS (84) model atmosphere for similar geomagnetic conditions and found to be in general agreement; they are also consistent with results obtained by other investigators

The performance of over 500 North Dakota farms, 1993-1995, is summarized using 16 financial measures. Farms are categorized by geographic region, farm type, farm size, gross cash sales, farm tenure, net farm income, debt-to-asset, and age of farmer to analyze relationships between financial performance and farm characteristics.Farm financial management, farm management, farm income, liquidity, solvency, profitability, repayment capacity, financial efficiency, financial benchmarks, tenure, North Dakota., Agricultural Finance,

Growing Up in Adventism: A Sharing of Some Personal Concerns and Suggestions for Reaching Young People

    Get PDF
In this paper I apply the revolving door model and some of the data from Valuegenesis 2 to my personal experiences and observations. I provide suggestions to reclaim Adventist young people in conversation with Malcolm Bull and Keith Lockhart’s work Seeking a Sanctuary, in which they explore the “Revolving Door” model of Adventist faith development and experience. I particularly emphasize the need to accept young people where they are instead of trying to correct their theological views before we develop relationships with them

BILLS AND NOTES-INDORSEMENT IN BLANK FOLLOWED BY SPECIAL INDORSEMENT

Plaintiff purchased a cashier\u27s check from X Bank payable to himself. He indorsed the check in blank and immediately below stamped it, Pay to the order of Bank of America, National Savings and Trust Association, S. & R. Produce Co. Plaintiff then gave the check to one R with whom he had agreed to enter into business under the name of the S. & R. Produce Company. R took the check to Y Bank which at his request blocked out the special indorsement without the knowledge or consent of plaintiff. R then indorsed the check and deposited it to his personal account. X Bank paid the check on presentment. In an action against both banks to recover the amount of the check alleged to have been paid to R wrongfully, held: the status of the check as a bearer instrument from plaintiff\u27s indorsement in blank was unaffected by the subsequent special indorsement; Y Bank therefore took title to it by delivery as a holder in due course, and X Bank was bound to pay on the presentation of Y. In a will drawn for her by a layman, testatrix inserted in her own words a clause reading, It is my belief that 120 acres . . . owned by my deceased husband, John Cagley, subject to a life estate willed to me, be distributed to his four nieces and nephews . . . . In fact, her husband\u27s will had not specifically disposed of the remainder, and testatrix had in addition to the life estate, taken the remainder as residuary devisee. Held, The clause was a valid devise of the property to the four named beneficiaries. Layton v. Tucker, (Iowa, 1946) 23 N.W. (2d) 297

The Effects of DDAVP on Speed of Accessing Long-Term Memory and Incidental Learning in Healthy Male and Female Volunteers

    Get PDF
The effects of desmopressin acetate (DDAVP), a vasopressin analog, were investigated using a computerized task designed to measure speed of accessing long-term memory at three levels of processing (physically identical decisions, same name decisions and same category decisions), and an unexpected free recall of the words presented. Forty-one healthy females and forty-three healthy males (age 18-34) intranasally received either 60 ug DDAVP in 0.6 ml of solution or 0.6 ml of saline 20 minutes prior to testing. DDAVP did not affect response time on the computerized task; however, when response time control trials were subtracted from the corresponding cells of the design, DDAVP was found to decrease response times for physically identical decisions only. In addition, DDAVP increased response times on the response time control task designed to measure the motor component of responding. Analysis of the error rates suggests a subtle sexually dimorphic effect of the peptide in that DDAVP facilitated accuracy for DDAVP-treated female subjects, but had an adverse effect in regard to error rates for DDAVP-treated male subjects. No treatment effect was found for incidental learning as measured by unexpected free recall of the words presented during the computer task
