A Tight Connection Between Direct and Indirect Detection of Dark Matter through Higgs Portal Couplings to a Hidden Sector
We present a hidden Abelian extension of the Standard Model including a
complex scalar as a dark matter candidate and a light scalar acting as a long
range force carrier between dark matter particles. The Sommerfeld enhanced
annihilation cross-section of the dark matter explains the observed cosmic ray
excesses. The light scalar field also gives rise to potentially large
cross-sections of dark matter on nucleon, therefore providing an interesting
way to probe this model simultaneously at direct and indirect dark matter
search experiments. We constrain the parameter-space of the model by taking

Off-equilibrium corrections to energy and conserved charge densities in the relativistic fluid in heavy-ion collisions
Dissipative processes in relativistic fluids are known to be important in the
analyses of the hot QCD matter created in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. In
this work, I consider dissipative corrections to energy and conserved charge
densities, which are conventionally assumed to be vanishing but could be
finite. Causal dissipative hydrodynamics is formulated in the presence of those
dissipative currents. The relation between hydrodynamic stability and transport
coefficients is discussed. I then study their phenomenological consequences on
the observables of heavy-ion collisions in numerical simulations. It is shown

Sinorhizobium Meliloti, A Bacterium Lacking The Autoinducer-2 (AI-2) Synthase, Responds To AI-2 Supplied By Other Bacteria
Many bacterial species respond to the quorum-sensing signal autoinducer-2 (AI-2) by regulating different niche-specific genes. Here, we show that Sinorhizobium meliloti, a plant symbiont lacking the gene for the AI-2 synthase, while not capable of producing AI-2 can nonetheless respond to AI-2 produced by other species. We demonstrate that S. meliloti has a periplasmic binding protein that binds AI-2. The crystal structure of this protein (here named SmlsrB) with its ligand reveals that it binds (2R,4S)-2-methyl-2,3,3,4-tetrahydroxytetrahydrofuran (R-THMF), the identical AI-2 isomer recognized by LsrB of Salmonella typhimurium. The gene encoding SmlsrB is in an operon with orthologues of the lsr genes required for AI-2 internalization in enteric bacteria. Accordingly, S. meliloti internalizes exogenous AI-2, and mutants in this operon are defective in AI-2 internalization. S. meliloti does not gain a metabolic benefit from internalizing AI-2, suggesting that AI-2 functions as a signal in S. meliloti. Furthermore, S. meliloti can completely eliminate the AI-2 secreted by Erwinia carotovora, a plant pathogen shown to use AI-2 to regulate virulence. Our findings suggest that S. meliloti is capable of \u27eavesdropping\u27 on the AI-2 signalling of other species and interfering with AI-2-regulated behaviours such as virulence
Detection of gravitational waves from the QCD phase transition with pulsar timing arrays
If the cosmological QCD phase transition is strongly first order and lasts
sufficiently long, it generates a background of gravitational waves which may
be detected via pulsar timing experiments. We estimate the amplitude and the

Production of nanodrug for Bacillus cereus isolated from HIV positive patient using Mallotus philippensis
AbstractThe present investigation was aimed to synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Mallotus philippensis leaf extract and their antibacterial potential against Bacillus cereus isolated from HIV positive patient. In this, UV- Visible spectroscopy showed the high peak of absorption band at 450Â nm. Based on XRD analysis, face centered cubic structure and average size of the AgNPs was around 16Â nm. FTIR spectroscopy study revealed the seventeen functional groups of the AgNPs was observed. The morphology of AgNPs was spherical, oval shapes and diameter of the particle size ranges between 9 and 24Â nm was measured using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition to these green synthesized AgNPs were found to express the higher efficacy in inhibiting the growth of Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) isolated from the HIV-positive patient
On a zero speed sensitive cellular automaton
Using an unusual, yet natural invariant measure we show that there exists a
sensitive cellular automaton whose perturbations propagate at asymptotically
null speed for almost all configurations. More specifically, we prove that
Lyapunov Exponents measuring pointwise or average linear speeds of the faster
perturbations are equal to zero. We show that this implies the nullity of the
measurable entropy. The measure m we consider gives the m-expansiveness
property to the automaton. It is constructed with respect to a factor dynamical
system based on simple "counter dynamics". As a counterpart, we prove that in
the case of positively expansive automata, the perturbations move at positive
linear speed over all the configurations
Strong obstruction of the Berends-Burgers-van Dam spin-3 vertex
In the eighties, Berends, Burgers and van Dam (BBvD) found a nonabelian cubic
vertex for self-interacting massless fields of spin three in flat spacetime.
However, they also found that this deformation is inconsistent at higher order
for any multiplet of spin-three fields. For arbitrary symmetric gauge fields,
we severely constrain the possible nonabelian deformations of the gauge algebra
and, using these results, prove that the BBvD obstruction cannot be cured by
