Beam Dynamics Studies for the CLIC Main Linac
The implications of long-range wakefields on the beam quality are
investigated through a detailed beam dynamics study. Injection offsets are
considered and the resulting emittance dilution recorded, including systematic
sources of error. These simulations have been conducted for damped and detuned
structures (DDS) and for waveguide damped structures-both for the CLIC
collider.Comment: 3 pages, 6 figures, IPAC1
Dynamics effects in the new CLIC Main LINAC
In the compact linear collider (CLIC) the tolerances on dynamic imperfections are tight in themain linac. In particular the limited beam delivery system bandwidth requires very good RF phase and amplitude stability. Transverse motion of the beam line components is also of concern. The resulting tolerances are detailed in the paper for the CLIC main linac lattice [1]
Alignment of the CLIC BDS
Aligning the CLIC Beam Delivery System faces two major challenges, the tight tolerances for the emittance preservation and its strong non-linear beam dynamics. For these reasons conventional beam-based alignment techniques, like dispersion free steering, are only partially successful and need to be followed by optimization algorithms based on other observables, like beam sizes
Optimal Control for Generating Quantum Gates in Open Dissipative Systems
Optimal control methods for implementing quantum modules with least amount of
relaxative loss are devised to give best approximations to unitary gates under
relaxation. The potential gain by optimal control using relaxation parameters
against time-optimal control is explored and exemplified in numerical and in
algebraic terms: it is the method of choice to govern quantum systems within
subspaces of weak relaxation whenever the drift Hamiltonian would otherwise
drive the system through fast decaying modes. In a standard model system
generalising decoherence-free subspaces to more realistic scenarios,
openGRAPE-derived controls realise a CNOT with fidelities beyond 95% instead of
at most 15% for a standard Trotter expansion. As additional benefit it requires
control fields orders of magnitude lower than the bang-bang decouplings in the
latter.Comment: largely expanded version, superseedes v1: 10 pages, 5 figure
Polarimetric Evidence of Non-Spherical Winds
Polarization observations yield otherwise unobtainable information about the
geometrical structure of unresolved objects. In this talk we review the
evidences for non-spherically symmetric structures around Luminous Hot Stars
from polarimetry and what we can learn with this technique. Polarimetry has
added a new dimension to the study of the envelopes of Luminous Blue Variables,
Wolf-Rayet stars and B[e] stars, all of which are discussed in some detail.Comment: 8 pages, 2 encapsulated Postscript figures, uses lamuphys.sty.

Status report of the baseline collimation system of CLIC. Part II
Important efforts have recently been dedicated to the characterisation and
improvement of the design of the post-linac collimation system of the Compact
Linear Collider (CLIC). This system consists of two sections: one dedicated to
the collimation of off-energy particles and another one for betatron
collimation. The energy collimation system is further conceived as protection
system against damage by errant beams. In this respect, special attention is
paid to the optimisation of the energy collimator design. The material and the
physical parameters of the energy collimators are selected to withstand the
impact of an entire bunch train. Concerning the betatron collimation section,
different aspects of the design have been optimised: the transverse collimation
depths have been recalculated in order to reduce the collimator wakefield
effects while maintaining a good efficiency in cleaning the undesired beam
halo; the geometric design of the spoilers has been reviewed to minimise
wakefields; in addition, the optics design has been optimised to improve the
collimation efficiency. This report presents the current status of the the
post-linac collimation system of CLIC. Part II is mainly dedicated to the study
of the betatron collimation system and collimator wakefield effects.Comment: 25 pages, 13 figure
Elastic Form Factors of He up to Large
Elastic electron scattering off He and He has recently been studied
at forward and backward scattering angles in Hall A at JLab. The results will
provide accurate data on the elastic form factors, charge and magnetic for
He and charge only for He, up to squared momentum transfer -values
of 3.2 GeV.Comment: 3 pages, Proceedings of EFB2
Feedback Studies
Dynamic imperfections in future linear colliders can lead to a significant luminosity loss. We discuss different orbit feedback strategies in the main linac that can mitigate the emittance dilution and compare their efficiency. We also address the impact of ground motion in the beam delivery system and the potential cures
Magnetic properties of Fe/Dy multilayers: a Monte Carlo investigation
We investigate the magnetic properties of a Heisenberg ferrimagnetic
multilayer by using Monte Carlo simulations. The aim of this work is to study
the local structural anisotropy model which is a possible origin of the
perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in transition metal/rare earth amorphous
multilayers. We have considered a face centered cubic lattice where each site
is occupied by a classical Heisenberg spin. We have introduced in our model of
amorphous multilayers a small fraction of crystallized Fe-Dy nanoclusters with
a mean anisotropy axis along the deposition direction. We show that a
competition in the energy terms takes place between the mean uniaxial
anisotropy of the Dy atoms in the nanoclusters and the random anisotropy of the
Dy atoms in the matrix.Comment: accepte pour publication - Proceeding of the Joint European Magnetic

Optimizing the CLIC Beam Delivery System
The optimization of the new CLIC Final Focus System (FFS) with L*=3.5m is presented for a collection of CLIC beam parameters. The final performance is computed for the full Beam Delivery System including the new diagnostics section. A comparison to previous designs is also presented
