An Analytical Expression for the Non-Singlet Structure Functions at Small in the Double Logarithmic Approximation
A simple analytic expression for the non-singlet structure function
is given. The expression is derived from the result of Ref. [1] obtained by low
resummation of the quark ladder diagrams in the double logarithmic
approximation of perturbative QCD.Comment: 5 pages, A few comments and refs are adde
Dual Shapiro-Virasoro amplitudes in the QCD dipole picture
Using the QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics and the conformal invariance
properties of the BFKL kernel in transverse coordinate space, we show that the
1--to--p dipole densities can be expressed in terms of dual Shapiro- Virasoro
amplitudes B{2p+2} and their generalization including non-zero conformal spins.
We discuss the possibility of an effective closed string theory of interacting
QCD dipoles.Comment: 4 (1.tex, 3.ps) files: text (tex), tables, 2 figure
Consumers and Experts: An Econometric Analysis of the Demand for Water Heaters
Consumers can accumulate product information on the basis of a combination of searching, product advertising and expert advice.Examples of experts who provide product information include doctors advising patients on treatments, motor mechanics diagnosing car problems and recommending repairs, accountants recommending investment strategies, and plumbers making recommendations on alternative water heaters. In each of these examples, the transactions involve the sale of goods and services where the seller is at the same time an expert providing advice on the amount and type of product or service to be purchased. In the case of water heaters, the plumber advising a consumer on their choice of water heater will most likely also install the appliance.Because of the information asymmetry there is potentially a strategic element in the transmission of information from expert to consumer. This paper reports on an econometric investigation of the factors that determine the choices made by consumers and the recommendations made by plumbers and the extent to which plumbers act in the best interests of their customers. The empirical work is made possible by the availability of stated preference data generated by designed experiments involving separate samples of Australian consumers and plumbers. We find some evidence that plumbers have higher preferences than consumers for heater characteristics that increase their profit margin.consumers;demand;product information;advertising;investment;econometrics
The Generalized Non-forward BFKL Equation and the ``Bootstrap'' Condition for the Gluon Reggeization in the NLLA
The generalization of the BFKL equation for the case of non-forward
scattering is considered. The kernel of the generalized equation in the
next-to-leading approximation is expressed in terms of the gluon Regge
trajectory and the effective vertices for particle production in Reggeon
collisions. The ``bootstrap'' equations for the gluon Reggeization are
presented.Comment: 16 pages, LaTe
Bayesian Model Comparison and Analysis of the Galactic Disk Population of Gamma-Ray Millisecond Pulsars
Pulsed emission from almost one hundred millisecond pulsars (MSPs) has been
detected in -rays by the Fermi Large-Area Telescope. The global
properties of this population remain relatively unconstrained despite many
attempts to model their spatial and luminosity distributions. We perform here a
self-consistent Bayesian analysis of both the spatial distribution and
luminosity function simultaneously. Distance uncertainties, arising from errors
in the parallax measurement or Galactic electron-density model, are
marginalized over. We provide a public Python package for calculating distance
uncertainties to pulsars derived using the dispersion measure by accounting for
the uncertainties in Galactic electron-density model YMW16. Finally, we use
multiple parameterizations for the MSP population and perform Bayesian model
comparison, finding that a broken power law luminosity function with Lorimer
spatial profile are preferred over multiple other parameterizations used in the
past. The best-fit spatial distribution and number of -ray MSPs is
consistent with results for the radio population of MSPs.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables + Appendix. Public code and source list
