    The Economic Consequences of the Decline of Marriage

    The institution of marriage has served to funnel economic resources from fathers to children. Its continued decline in the countries of the developed world threatens the adequacy of the economic support of human reproduction, now increasingly provided by women. Its decline is also probably implicated in the low birth rates now being registered. The rise of cohabitation has not prevented a rise in the proportion of lone parents, and their numbers are growing rapidly. The children of lone parents are relatively deprived, both in terms of income and adults’ time for child care and housekeeping. Government-supported programs in the United States aimed at rescuing marriage have not been proven effective. Ways need to be explored to get a return of men’s economic support for reproduction. But the most likely way of repairing at least some of the damage to children is a big increase in government provision to the entire population of goods and services that children need: health care, high-quality education, child care, decent housing, university education. This will require in most countries a big rise in taxes and government expenditure.

The ability to incorporate drugs into nanoparticles offers a new prototype in drug delivery thus realizing the dual goal of both controlled release and site-specific drug delivery. Drug delivery to the skin is widely used for local and systemic delivery and has potential to be improved by application of nanoparticulate formulations. If investigated appropriately, solid lipid nanoparticles may open new opportunities in therapy of complex diseases which is difficult to treat

    Using long-term computer simulations and mean-field like arguments, we investigate the transient time and the properties of the stationary state of the Olami-Feder-Christensen earthquake model as function of the coupling parameter Îą\alpha and the system size NN. The most important findings are that the transient time diverges nonanalytically when Îą\alpha approaches zero, and that the avalanche-size distribution will not approach a power law with increasing system size.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure

    In contrast with Kotzig's result that the line graph of a 33-regular graph XX is Hamilton decomposable if and only if XX is Hamiltonian, we show that for each integer k≥4k\geq 4 there exists a simple non-Hamiltonian kk-regular graph whose line graph has a Hamilton decomposition. We also answer a question of Jackson by showing that for each integer k≥3k\geq 3 there exists a simple connected kk-regular graph with no separating transitions whose line graph has no Hamilton decomposition
