    The legend of the Wehrmacht’s “clean hands” was created with the Himmerdoer Memorandum of 1950 and sought to disassociate the German military with its Nazi past. The legend gained popularity in the minds of the German people and successfully led to Germany’s rearmament after World War Two. Beginning in 1990, the legend was destroyed as the actions of the Wehrmacht during World War Two created a different picture than that of the legend.     The semiconducting sulphosalt Wittichenite has been identified as a possible absorber material for thin film photovoltaic devices. It has the chemical formula Cu3BiS3 and its component elements are those of low toxicity and high abundance making it a very attractive prospect for photovoltaic devices. The copper bismuth sulphur material system is not very well understood and information on it limited to a few small regions. To aid understanding of this system a pseudo-binary phase diagram along the CuS-Bi join of the Cu-Bi-S ternary phase diagram was constructed by making bulk samples of various compositions along the join and analysing them using X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. This join was chosen because is crosses the point at which Cu3BiS3 would be expected to occur due to its stoichiometry. The CuS-Bi phase diagram shows Cu3BiS3 forms across a wide compositional range but is mixed with either bismuth metal or copper sulphides depending on composition. Films of Cu3BiS3 were made using sputtered copper and bismuth films annealed in a sulphur atmosphere and thermal co- evaporation of copper sulphide and bismuth

Aerodynamic characteristics and performance are discussed based on predictions and early flight-test data.     A total of image tube spectrograms of HM Sagittae were obtained. More than 70 emission lines, including several broad emission features, were identified. An analysis of the spectra indicates that HM Sagittae is a planetary nebula excited by a Wolf-Rayet star. The most conspicuous Wolf-Rayet feature is that attributed to a blend of C III at 4650 A and He II at 4686 A

    Likelihood Analysis of Cosmic Shear on Simulated and VIRMOS-DESCART Data

    We present a maximum likelihood analysis of cosmological parameters from measurements of the aperture mass up to 35 arcmin, using simulated and real cosmic shear data. A four-dimensional parameter space is explored which examines the mean density \Omega_M, the mass power spectrum normalization \sigma_8, the shape parameter \Gamma and the redshift of the sources z_s. Constraints on \Omega_M and \sigma_8 (resp. \Gamma and z_s) are then given by marginalizing over \Gamma and z_s (resp. \Omega_M and \sigma_8). For a flat LCDM cosmologies, using a photometric redshift prior for the sources and \Gamma \in [0.1,0.4], we find \sigma_8=(0.57\pm0.04) \Omega_M^{(0.24\mp 0.18) \Omega_M-0.49} at the 68% confidence level (the error budget includes statistical noise, full cosmic variance and residual systematic). The estimate of \Gamma, marginalized over \Omega_M \in [0.1,0.4], \sigma_8 \in [0.7,1.3] and z_s constrained by photometric redshifts, gives \Gamma=0.25\pm 0.13 at 68% confidence. Adopting h=0.7, a flat universe, \Gamma=0.2 and \Omega_m=0.3 we find \sigma_8=0.98 \pm0.06 . Combined with CMB, our results suggest a non-zero cosmological constant and provide tight constraints on \Omega_M and \sigma_8. We finaly compare our results to the cluster abundance ones, and discuss the possible discrepancy with the latest determinations of the cluster method. In particular we point out the actual limitations of the mass power spectrum prediction in the non-linear regime, and the importance for its improvement.Comment: 11 pages, submitted to A&

    Factor structure and psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the 20-item pain anxiety symptoms scale (ChPASS-20)

    Context: The Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale (PASS) was designed to assess pain-related anxiety and fear. Although the scale is a reliable measure with good psychometric properties, its validity among ethnic Chinese has yet to be evaluated. Objectives: This study aimed to translate the English-language version of the 20-item PASS into Chinese (ChPASS-20) and evaluate its factor structure, reliability, and validity. Methods: A total of 223 Chinese patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain attending orthopedic specialist clinics completed the ChPASS-20, the Chronic Pain Grade questionnaire, the Chinese version of the 11-item Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and questions assessing sociodemographic and pain characteristics. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses showed that all the five-factor solutions tested met the minimum acceptable fit criterion. The four ChPASS-20 subscales and the entire scale demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's αs: 0.72-0.92). All ChPASS-20 scales showed significant positive correlations with depression, pain intensity, and disability. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that the ChPASS-20 total score predicted concurrent depression [F(4,159) = 11.97, P < 0.001], pain intensity [F(4,161) = 2.47, P < 0.05], and pain disability [F(4,191) = 5.47, P < 0.001] scores, and the ChPASS-20 Avoidance subscale (standardized beta coefficient = 0.21, P < 0.05) emerged as a significant independent predictor of concurrent pain disability. Conclusion: Our data support the factorial validity, reliability, and construct validity of the ChPASS-20 in a Chinese population. © 2012 U.S. Cancer Pain Relief Committee. Published by Elsevier Inc.
