    Genetic Polymorphisms of the Coding Region (Exon 6) of Calpastatin in Indonesian Sheep

    Calpastatin (CAST) is an indigenous inhibitor of calpain that involved in regulation of protein turn over and growth. The objective of this research was to identify genetic polymorphisms in the entire exon 6 of calpastatin gene in Indonesian local sheep. A PCR-SSCP method was carried out to identify genetic variation of CAST gene. In total 258 heads of local sheep from 8 populations were investigated, three groups of samples were Thin Tail Sheep (TTS) from Sukabumi, Jonggol, and Kissar. The rest samples were Priangan sheep (PS) from Margawati (Garut meat type) and Wanaraja (Garut fighting type) and Fat Tail Sheep (FTS) from Donggala, Sumbawa, and Rote islands. SSCP analysis revealed that three different SSCP patterns corresponded to three different alleles in the CAST locus (CAST-1, 2, and 3 allele) with five different genotypes. Genetic variation between local sheep populations were calculated based on genotypic and allelic frequencies. Most populations studied were polymorphic, with genotype frequencies of CAST-11, CAST-12, CAST-22, CAST-32, and CAST-33 were 0.286, 0.395, 0.263, 0.046, and 0.007 respectively. CAST-1 and 2 alleles were most commonly found in all populations with total frequency was 0.970, while CAST-3 was a rare allele 0.030 and only found in TTS population. Variation in the CAST gene could be used for the next research as genetic diversity study or to find any association between CAST polymorphism with birth weight, growth trait and carcass quality in Indonesian local sheep

    Translation-Rotation Coupling in Transient Grating Experiments : Theoretical and Experimental Evidences

    The results of a Transient Grating experiment in a supercooled molecular liquid of anisotropic molecules and its theoretical interpretation are presented. These results show the existence of two distinct dynamical contributions in the response function of this experiment, density and orientation dynamics. These dynamics can be experimentally disentangled by varying the polarisation of the probe and diffracted beams and they have been identified and measured in a Heterodyne Detected experiment performed on m-toluidine.     Distinguished bases of exceptional modules

    Exceptional modules are tree modules. A tree module usually has many tree bases and the corresponding coefficient quivers may look quite differently. The aim of this note is to introduce a class of exceptional modules which have a distinguished tree basis, we call them radiation modules (generalizing an inductive construction considered already by Kinser). For a Dynkin quiver, nearly all indecomposable representations turn out to be radiation modules, the only exception is the maximal indecomposable module in case E_8. Also, the exceptional representation of the generalized Kronecker quivers are given by radiation modules. Consequently, with the help of Schofield induction one can display all the exceptional modules of an arbitrary quiver in a nice way.Comment: This is a revised and slightly expanded version.     Non-linear Weibel-type Soliton Modes

    Discussion is given of non-linear soliton behavior including coupling between electrostatic and electromagnetic potentials for non-relativistic, weakly relativistic, and fully relativistic plasmas. For plasma distribution functions that are independent of the canonical momenta perpendicular to the soliton spatial structure direction there are, in fact, no soliton behaviors allowed because transverse currents are zero. Dependence on the transverse canonical momenta is necessary. When such is the case, it is shown that the presence or absence of a soliton is intimately connected to the functional form assumed for the particle distribution functions. Except for simple situations, the coupled non-linear equations for the electrostatic and electromagnetic potentials would seem to require numerical solution procedures. Examples are given to illustrate all of these points for non-relativistic, weakly relativistic, and fully relativistic plasmas.Comment: Accepted for publication at Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretica

    The scattering cross section associated with a two dimensional delta function has recently been the object of considerable study. It is shown here that this problem can be put into a field theoretical framework by the construction of an appropriate Galilean covariant theory. The Lee model with a standard Yukawa interaction is shown to provide such a realization. The usual results for delta function scattering are then obtained in the case that a stable particle exists in the scattering channel provided that a certain limit is taken in the relevant parameter space. In the more general case in which no such limit is taken finite corrections to the cross section are obtained which (unlike the pure delta function case) depend on the coupling constant of the model.Comment: 7 pages, latex, no figure
