The neurotropic effects of Prayer are manifested in two inhibitory and three activating patterns. The first inhibitory pattern reflects the decrease in elevated and upper limit levels of SPD of θ-and δ-rhythm in frontal loci and the second - decrease in normal SPD levels of β-and θ-rhythm in the frontal, central, temporal and parietal loci. The first activating pattern reflects a small increase in normal levels of β-rhythm index and asymmetry and SPD entropy in locus C3, as well as a further increase in elevated δ-rhythm SPD levels in loci P3 and T3. The second pattern reflects the slight increase in normal SPD levels of θ-rhythm in loci T3, T5, T6, O2 and ι-rhythm in locus T5, as well as their indices and entropy SPD in locus O2. The third pattern reflects a slight increase in amplitude and SPD of ι-rhythm in central, frontal, temporal and occipital loci

The Interaction of Hypotaurine and Other Sulfinates with Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species:A Survey of Reaction Mechanisms

    Get PDF
Considerable strides have been made in understanding the oxidative mechanisms involved in the final steps of the cysteine pathway leading to taurine. The oxidation of sulfinates, hypotaurine and cysteine sulfinic acid, to the respective sulfonates, taurine and cysteic acid, has never been associated with any specific enzyme. Conversely, there is strong evidence that in vivo formation of taurine and cysteic acid is the result of sulfinate interaction with a variety of biologically relevant oxidants. In the last decade, many experiments have been performed to understand whether peroxynitrite, nitrogen dioxide and carbonate radical anion could be included in the biologically relevant reactive species capable of oxidizing sulfinates. Thanks to this work, it has been possible to highlight two possible reaction mechanisms (direct and indirect reaction) of sulfinates with reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. The sulfinates oxidation, mediated by peroxynitrite, is an example of both reaction mechanisms: through a two-electron-direct-reaction with peroxynitrite or through a one-electron-indirect-transfer reaction. In the indirect mechanism, the peroxynitrite homolysis releases hydroxyl and nitrogen dioxide radical and in addition the degradation of short-lived adduct formed by peroxynitrite and CO2 can generate carbonate radical anion. The reaction of hypotaurine and cysteine sulfinic acid with peroxynitrite-derived radicals is accompanied by extensive oxygen uptake with the generation of transient intermediates, which can begin a reaction by an oxygen-dependent mechanism with the sulfonates, taurine, and cysteic acid as final products. Due to pulse radiolysis studies, it has been shown that transient sulfonyl radicals (RSO2(•)) have been produced during the oxidation of both sulfinates by one-electron transfer reaction. The purpose is to analyze all the aspects of the reactive mechanism in the sulfinic group oxidation of hypotaurine and cysteine sulfinic acid through the results obtained from our laboratory in recent years

Shedding light on the soft and efficient free radical induced reduction of graphene oxide: Hidden mechanisms and energetics

    No full text
Reduction of graphene oxide (GO) in aqueous dispersions by strongly reducing free radicals has recently been identified to be a very powerful approach, because functional groups are removed softly but efficiently, and non-volatile impurities as well as defects are largely avoided. However, the reaction mechanisms remained somewhat speculative. Recently we showed that GO can be efficiently reduced in water by indirect photoreduction mediated by (CH3)2C(OH) radicals generated via the reaction of triplet acetone with isopropanol. Those radicals efficiently defunctionalize oxo-groups of GO forming the carbon lattice without generating additional defects. In this comprehensive study we shed more light on the reaction mechanism of reduction of GO by H, CO2 -, (CH3)2C(OH) and CH3CH(OH) by combining pulsed radiolysis and determine its overall energetics via quantum-chemical calculations. In time-dependent experiments mechanistic insights have been obtained and unknown intermediates have been discovered. Moreover, different reduction mechanisms, such as radical addition, electron-transfer, concerted water elimination and HCO3 - elimination are identified. Here we show that all mechanisms lead to sp2-carbon formation and therefore high quality graphene by reductive defunctionalization

High quality reduced graphene oxide flakes by fast kinetically controlled and clean indirect UV-induced radical reduction

    No full text
This work highlights a surprisingly simple and kinetically controlled highly efficient indirect method for the production of high quality reduced graphene oxide (rGO) flakes via UV irradiation of aqueous dispersions of graphene oxide (GO), in which the GO is not excited directly. While the direct photoexcitation of aqueous GO (when GO is the only light-absorbing component) takes several hours of reaction time at ambient temperature (4 h) leading only to a partial GO reduction, the addition of small amounts of isopropanol and acetone (2% and 1%) leads to a dramatically shortened reaction time by more than two orders of magnitude (2 min) and a very efficient and soft reduction of graphene oxide. This method avoids the formation of non-volatile species and in turn contamination of the produced rGO and it is based on the highly efficient generation of reducing carbon centered isopropanol radicals via the reaction of triplet acetone with isopropanol. While the direct photolysis of GO dispersions easily leads to degradation of the carbon lattice of GO and thus to a relatively low electric conductivity of the films of flakes, our indirect photoreduction of GO instead largely avoids the formation of defects, keeping the carbon lattice intact. Mechanisms of the direct and indirect photoreduction of GO have been elucidated and compared. Raman spectroscopy, XPS and conductivity measurements prove the efficiency of the indirect photoreduction in comparison with the state-of-the-art reduction method for GO (hydriodic acid/trifluoroacetic acid). The rapid reduction times and water solvent containing only small amounts of isopropanol and acetone may allow easy process up-scaling for technical applications and low-energy consumption

Previously we have been carry out comparative investigation immediate effects of Bioactive Water Naftussya from layers Truskavets’, Pomyarky and Skhidnyts’a on neuro-endocrine-immune complex at men with its dysfunction. The aim of this study is the influence of the use of the course of Bioactive Water Naftussya from layers Truskavets’ and Pomyarky on some metabolic and biophysical parameters at similar patients. Materials and methods. The object of observation were 20 volunteers: ten women and ten men aged 33-76 years without clinical diagnose but with dysfunction of neuro-endocrine-immune complex and metabolism. In daily urine and venous blood we determined the content of electrolytes, nitrogenous metabolites and lipids, recorded conductivity of acupuncture points, rate of electronegative nuclei of buccal epithelium as well as parameters of gas discharge vizualisation (GDV). After examination volunteers within 7 days used bioactive water Naftussya (250 mL three times a day) from Truskavets’ or Pomyarky layer, then repeated the tests listed. Results. Weekly use of Bioactive Water Naftussya increases in the normal level of plasma chloride and sodium, normalizes low level of bicarbonate and decreases within the normal levels of potassium and phosphate. Urinary excretion of sodium and chloride increases while excretion and concentration of uric acid decreases, as the urine concentration of phosphates. The index lithogenicity urine decreased from 112% to 103% norm standard. Initially reduced level of plasma triacylglycerides increases, while decreases in the normal level of cholesterol in low-density lipoprotein composition. Among the biophysical parameters detected increase in the normal conductivity acupuncture points Pg (ND) at right side, which represent the nervous system, and left shift the ratio between the conductivity of acupuncture points MC (AVL), which represents the immune system. Increases electrokinetic index of epithelial cells of cheek to 1,7Âą0,3%, that indicating the "rejuvenation" of the organism to 1,4Âą0,3 years. We first discovered changes in parameters of GDV, namely elimination of asymmetries of virtual chakras (first, second and third) as well as reducing the excess energy of the first chakra. No significant differences between the effects of Bioactive Water Naftussya both fields generally not found. Conclusion. Bioactive water Naftussya both Truskavets’ and Pomyarky layers causes favorable normalizing effects on abnormalities parameters of metabolism and gas discharge visualization, which is a manifestation of its adaptogenic properties.
