Rev. Mr. Elbert R. “Bert” Brewster, interviewed by Stephen Rees in Waterville, Maine, July 7, 1999. Brewster discusses his youth and being born a month following his father\u27s death; his brother who was 16-years older, going into World War II; admiring his brother\u27s service but still attempting to waylay being drafted himself; gimmicks used by young men to escape the draft including gaining weight and reporting while badly hung over in order to appear unhealthy; going into the service with a group of men from around New England; reporting to Fort Dix; becoming ill with pneumonia during basic training; handling fear during training; the importance of his religion and going through 12-weeks of medical training to become a corpsman and avoid having to kill; green underwear being an early indicator you were being sent over; being bullied by other recruits; running out of food and water on the troop ship General Blaxford on the way to Vietnam; landing in Saigon; setting up an aid tent in Vietcong territory; the lack of water for bathing and laundry; repeatedly losing his rifle in camp; becoming less religious but continuing to refuse to shoot people; his routine duties; PX supplies and working in the PX; the Black market; the impact of his friend Jesse Miller\u27s death; mail and receiving a Dear John letter; and life after returning home. CORPORATIONS - UNORTHODOX PREFERRED STOCK PROVISIONS IN PRIORITY LITIGATION
To one who has accumulated sufficient savings to earn the position of a prospective purchaser of corporate securities there is presented an impressive and somewhat mystifying list of interests from which he may choose, advisedly or otherwise. Between orthodox common stock at one extreme and secured bonds at the other, ranges an endless variety of stocks embodying some bond characteristics, bonds bearing stock attributes, and a welter of certificates professing to be neither stocks nor bonds. Because individual sources of funds needed for industry do differ in their convictions as to relative advantages of different characteristics of securities, issuing corporations, in an effort to attract every available dollar under every imaginable market or credit condition, over a long period of time have devised the amazing spectrum of hazily distinguishable investments currently displayed to potential purchasers

Cooling of 2 kW H subscript 2-O subscript 2 fuel cell
An extensive research and development program has been carried out to devise an improved method of removing waste heat of reaction from a developmental 2 kW hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell
A note on testing for environmental Kuznets curves with panel data
This paper casts doubt on empirical results based on panel estimations of an "inverted-U" relationship between per capita GDP and pollution. Using a new data set for OECD countries on carbon dioxide emissions for the period 1960-1997, we find that the crucial assumption of homogeneity across countries is problematic. Decisively rejected are model specifications that feature even weaker homogeneity assumptions than are commonly used. Furthermore, our results challenge the existence of an overall Environmental Kuznets Curve for carbon dioxide emissions
A Study of the Communities of Aquatic Macro-Invertebrates of the Merging of the Mississippi and Chippewa Rivers, Using a Biplate Substrate Sampler
Using a biplate substrate sampler, aquatic macro-invertebrates were collected during the fall, winter and spring seasons at the confluence of the Mississippi and Chippewa Rivers along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. The substrate sampler proved very desirable in pointing out extreme community variations which existed between the two rivers. It was found that the members of a downstream community were a blend of the communities present in upstream tributaries. However, as compared with upstream communities, a shift in dominant organisms occurred. Striking seasonal changes appeared in the invertebrate populations as well as the environment of the rivers. All sampling revealed clean water communities were present and suggested the absence of aquatic pollution
Water power plant for the University of Missouri
"A thesis presented for the degree of Bachelor of Science in civil engineering."Manuscript copy.Includes bibliographical references.Hydro-Electric Power Development is fast becoming one of the largest branches of engineering. Much attention is being paid to it in all good engineering schools. But it is impossible to get much out of the study unless a plant is available for experimental work for the students. Cornell University has such a plant for this use. The engineering of this plant, the water wheels, the electrical equipment, etc. were supplied by various large manufacturing companies at practically cost price. Now that the University of Missouri is giving special courses in hydraulic engineering, it is very essential that she have such a plant at her services. The object of this thesis is to investigate a project that will supply this need. wDigitized at the University of Missouri--Columbia MU Libraries Digitization Lab in 2011
