Pseudo Bayesian Estimation of One-way ANOVA Model in Complex Surveys

We devise survey-weighted pseudo posterior distribution estimators under 2-stage informative sampling of both primary clusters and secondary nested units for a one-way ANOVA population generating model as a simple canonical case where population model random effects are defined to be coincident with the primary clusters. We consider estimation on an observed informative sample under both an augmented pseudo likelihood that co-samples random effects, as well as an integrated likelihood that marginalizes out the random effects from the survey-weighted augmented pseudo likelihood. This paper includes a theoretical exposition that enumerates easily verified conditions for which estimation under the augmented pseudo posterior is guaranteed to be consistent at the true generating parameters. We reveal in simulation that both approaches produce asymptotically unbiased estimation of the generating hyperparameters for the random effects when a key condition on the sum of within cluster weighted residuals is met. We present a comparison with frequentist EM and a methods that requires pairwise sampling weights.Comment: 46 pages, 9 figure

Silver-base ternary alloy proves superior for slip ring lead wires

    Get PDF
Slip ring lead wires composed of ternary alloys of silver, have high electrical conductivity, a tensile strength of at least 30,000 psi, high ductility, and are solderable and weldable. An unexpected advantage of these alloys is their resistance to discoloration on heating in air

Atomic final-state interactions in tritium decay

    Get PDF
We calculate the effect of the Coulomb interaction of the ejected β ray with the bound atomic electron in the β decay of a tritium atom. The excited state probabilities of the residual helium ion are changed by at most 0.17% from the usual sudden approximation

Low-speed wind-tunnel investigation of flight spoilers as trailing-vortex-alleviation devices on a medium range wide-body tri-jet airplane model

    Get PDF
An investigation was made in the V/STOL tunnel to determine, by the trailing wing sensor technique, the effectiveness of various segments of the existing flight spoilers on a medium range wide body tri-jet transport airplane model when they were deflected as trailing vortex alleviation devices. The four combinations of flight spoiler segments investigated were effective in reducing the induced rolling moment on the trailing wing model by as much as 15 to 60 percent at distances behind the transport model of from 3.9 to 19.6 transport wing spans, 19.6 spans being the downstream limit of distances used. Essentially all of the reduction in induced rolling moment on the trailing wing model was realized at a spoiler deflection of about 45 deg

    SINDA/SINFLO computer routine, volume 1, revision A

    Get PDF
The SINFLO package was developed to modify the SINDA preprocessor to accept and store the input data for fluid flow systems analysis and adding the FLOSOL user subroutine to perform the flow solution. This reduced and simplified the user input required for analysis of flow problems. A temperature calculation method, the flow-hybrid method which was developed in previous VSD thermal simulator routines, was incorporated for calculating fluid temperatures. The calculation method accuracy was improved by using fluid enthalpy rather than specific heat for the convective term of the fluid temperature equation. Subroutines and data input requirements are described along with user subroutines, flow data storage, and usage of the plot program

Booms and busts in household wealth: implications for Tenth District states

    Get PDF
The U.S. stock market and housing market--the two largest sources of U.S. household wealth--have had sizable booms and busts in recent years. This volatility has influenced national consumption trends and had important consequences for states. Some states have become relatively wealthier, affecting both the short- and long-term consumption spending potential of their residents. ; Understanding how wealth changes affect state economies could be especially important in 2011 and 2012 given the recent resumption of home price declines in much of the country. Research has shown that consumption can be more sensitive to changes in housing wealth than other types of wealth. While the home price collapse in 2007-09 hurt the Tenth District less than the nation, home price fundamentals in several District states may be more similar to the nation over the next couple of years. ; Wilkerson and Williams examine recent changes in household wealth in Tenth District states and explore how the region is positioned heading forward.
