Construction of Exact Solutions to Nahm's Equations for the Multimonopole

We construct high rank solutions to Nahm's equations for boundary conditions that correspond to the Dirac multimonopole. Here, the spectral curve is explicitly known and we achieve the integration by constructing a basis of polynomial tuples that forms a frame for the flow of the eigenline bundle over the curve

This chapter provides an overview of the book theme, motivating the need for high-performance and time-predictable embedded computing. It describes the challenges introduced by the need for time-predictability on the one hand, and high-performance on the other, discussing on a high level how these contradictory requirements can be simultaneously supported

Gac two-component system in Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci is required for virulence but not for hypersensitive reaction

Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci 6605 causes wildfire disease on host tobacco plants. To investigate the regulatory mechanism of the expression of virulence, Gac two-Component system-defective mutants, Delta gacA and Delta gacS, and a double mutant, Delta gacA Delta gacS, were generated. These mutants produced smaller amounts of N-acyl homoserine lactones required for quorum sensing, had lost swarming motility, and had reduced expression of virulence-related hrp genes and the algT gene required for exopolysaccharide production. The ability of the mutants to cause disease symptoms in their host tobacco plant was remarkably reduced, while they retained the ability to induce hypersensitive reaction (HR) in the nonhost plants. These results indicated that the Gac two-component system of P. syringae pv. tabaci 6605 is indispensable for virulence on the host plant, but not for HR induction in the nonhost plants.</p

Boron doped TiO2 catalysts for photocatalytic ozonation of aqueous mixtures of common pesticides: Diuron, o-phenylphenol, MCPA and terbuthylazine

Photocatalysts were characterized by ICP-EOS, N2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, XPS, and DR-UV-Vis spectroscopy. Four recalcitrant herbicides and pesticides (diuron, o-phenylphenol, 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) and terbuthylazine) were subjected to degradation by ozonation, photolytic ozonation, photocatalysis and photocatalytic ozonation using the prepared catalysts under simulated solar irradiation in a laboratory scale system. The boron that was not incorporated to the TiO2 interstitial positions was unstable and leached to the solution. The washed B-doped TiO2 catalysts, with 0.5-0.8 wt.% of interstitial boron were more active than bare TiO2 for the removal and mineralization of the target compounds. The combination of ozonation and photocatalysis led to faster mineralization rates and allowed the complete removal of the pesticides below the regulatory standards. The B-doped catalyst was stable and maintained 75% mineralization after 3 consecutive runs

Mtss1 promotes cell-cell junction assembly and stability through the small GTPase Rac1

Cell-cell junctions are an integral part of epithelia and are often disrupted in cancer cells during epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which is a main driver of metastatic spread. We show here that Metastasis suppressor-1 (Mtss1; Missing in Metastasis, MIM), a member of the IMD-family of proteins, inhibits cell-cell junction disassembly in wound healing or HGF-induced scatter assays by enhancing cell-cell junction strength. Mtss1 not only makes cells more resistant to cell-cell junction disassembly, but also accelerates the kinetics of adherens junction assembly. Mtss1 drives enhanced junction formation specifically by elevating Rac-GTP. Lastly, we show that Mtss1 depletion reduces recruitment of F-actin at cell-cell junctions. We thus propose that Mtss1 promotes Rac1 activation and actin recruitment driving junction maintenance. We suggest that the observed loss of Mtss1 in cancers may compromise junction stability and thus promote EMT and metastasis

A High Statistics Measurement of the Lambdac+ Lifetime

A high statistics measurement of the Lambdac+ lifetime from the Fermilab fixed-target FOCUS photoproduction experiment is presented. We describe the analysis technique with particular attention to the determination of the systematic uncertainty. The measured value of 204.6 +/- 3.4 (stat.) +/- 2.5 (syst.) fs from 8034 +/- 122 Lambdac -> pKpi decays represents a significant improvement over the present world average.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letter
