A Simple Graphene NH₃ Gas Sensor via Laser Direct Writing.
Ammonia gas sensors are very essential in many industries and everyday life. However, their complicated fabrication process, severe environmental fabrication requirements and desorption of residual ammonia molecules result in high cost and hinder their market acceptance. Here, laser direct writing is used to fabricate three parallel porous 3D graphene lines on a polyimide (PI) tape to simply construct an ammonia gas sensor. The middle one works as an ammonia sensing element and the other two on both sides work as heaters to improve the desorption performance of the sensing element to ammonia gas molecules. The graphene lines were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The response and recovery time of the sensor without heating are 214 s and 222 s with a sensitivity of 0.087% ppm-1 for sensing 75 ppm ammonia gas, respectively. The experimental results prove that under the optimized heating temperature of about 70 °C the heaters successfully help implement complete desorption of residual NH₃ showing a good sensitivity and cyclic stability
Overview of the BioLaySumm 2023 Shared Task on Lay Summarization of Biomedical Research Articles
This paper presents the results of the shared task on Lay Summarisation of
Biomedical Research Articles (BioLaySumm), hosted at the BioNLP Workshop at ACL
2023. The goal of this shared task is to develop abstractive summarisation
models capable of generating "lay summaries" (i.e., summaries that are
comprehensible to non-technical audiences) in both a controllable and
non-controllable setting. There are two subtasks: 1) Lay Summarisation, where
the goal is for participants to build models for lay summary generation only,
given the full article text and the corresponding abstract as input; and 2)
Readability-controlled Summarisation, where the goal is for participants to
train models to generate both the technical abstract and the lay summary, given
an article's main text as input. In addition to overall results, we report on
the setup and insights from the BioLaySumm shared task, which attracted a total
of 20 participating teams across both subtasks.Comment: Published at BioNLP@ACL202
Mode locked Erbium doped fiber lasers using 45º tilted fiber grating
We have systematically studied the 45º tilted fiber grating (45TFG) as a functional device for Erbium doped fiber laser (EDFL) mode locking. A number of 45TFGs with different polarization dependent loss (PDL) have been fabricated. Mode locked Erbium doped fiber laser using these devices have been characterized in terms of threshold, pulse duration, signal to noise ratio (SNR), and spectral width. Our results show that a 45TFG with higher PDL could achieve better laser results. By using a 45TFG with 24dB PDL, the mode locked laser has 8.1% conversion efficiency and a threshold of 200mW
Dual pulse bound states in a dispersion-managed mode-locked all-fiber laser with 101.75MHz repetition rate using 45° tilted fiber grating
We demonstrate a dispersion managed Erbium doped all-fiber laser with 101.75MHz repetition rate using 45°TFG to realize mode locking based on nonlinear polarization rotation technique. In our experiment, stable dual-pulse tightly bound states were observed under the pump power of 505mW
