    Topological phase transition based on the attractive Hubbard model

    We theoretically investigate the effect of an attractive on-site interaction on the two-band magnetic Dirac fermion model based on a square lattice system. When the attractive fermion interaction is taken into account by the mean-field approximation, a phase diagram is obtained. It is found that a quantum phase transition from a band insulator state to quantum anomalous Hall state occurs with increased attractive interaction. For an existing quantum anomalous Hall state, the attractive interaction enlarges its nontrivial band gap and makes the topological edge states more localized, which protects the transport of linear-dispersive edge states against finite-size and further disorder effects.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    The evolution of the day-of-the-week effect and the implications in the crude oil market

    The movement of prices in the crude oil market are important to the international economy and financial asset returns. Day-of- the-week effect is a great challenge to the market's effectiveness. We examine the evolution of day-of-the-week and investigate its implications based on the West Texas Intermediate crude oil return from 14 May 2007 to 14 May 2021. We have obtained convincing findings that there is abnormal positive return on Wednesdays because the inventory shock schedule. Abnormal negative return on Mondays disappears sometimes, because bad sentiment is not the only decisive factor, as it is also determined by reactions to good sentiment. The results provide implication for the day-of-the-week effect and new evidence that crude oil market's efficiency changes over time. Policy makers, investors and producers can benefit from this

In this paper, the characteristics of electrical appliances are extracted from the load curve of household appliances, and a fast and efficient home appliance recognition algorithm is proposed based on the advantage of classification of ELM (Extreme Learning Machine). At the same time, the sampling frequency with low rate is mentioned in this paper, which can obtain the required data through intelligent hardware directly, as well as reduce the cost of investment. And the intelligent hardware isdesigned by our team, which is wireless sensor network (WSN) composed by a lot of wireless sensors. Experiments in this paper show that the proposed method can accurately determine theusing electrical appliances. And greatly improve the accuracy of identification, which can further improve the popularity of smart home

    Efficacy of calcium dobesilate in treating Chinese patients with mild-to-moderate non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (CALM-DR): protocol for a single-blind, multicentre, 24-armed cluster-randomised, controlled trial.

    INTRODUCTION Calcium dobesilate (CaD) has been used in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy (DR) due to its potential in protecting against retinal vascular damage. However, there is limited evidence exploring its efficacy in combating DR progression. This study is aimed at evaluating whether CaD could prevent DR progression into an advanced stage among Chinese patients with mild-to-moderate non-proliferative DR (NPDR). METHODS AND ANALYSIS This study is a single-blind, multicentre, cluster-randomised, controlled superiority trial. A total of 1272 patients with mild-to-moderate NPDR will be enrolled and randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio into the control group (conventional treatment group) and the intervention group (conventional treatment plus CaD (500 mg three times per day) for 12 months). Patients will be followed at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after randomisation and receiving treatments, with the severity of DR assessed by the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) scale. The primary endpoint is the progression of DR during follow-up, which is defined as an increase of two or more steps in the ETDRS scale. The secondary endpoints include the concomitant changes in visual acuity, presence, number, location and type of retinal lesions, and retinal blood vessel diameter as well as the arteriovenous ratio at different visits. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Each local ethics committee (first Vote: Ethical Review Committees of Zhongda Hospital of Southeast University (2019ZDSYLL132-P01)) has approved the study.     Potential candidates for liver resection in liver-confined advanced HCC: a Chinese multicenter observational study

    BackgroundAdvanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized as symptomatic tumors [performance status (PS) score of 1-2], vascular invasion and extrahepatic spread, but patients with PS1 alone may be eliminated from this stage. Although liver resection is used for liver-confined HCC, its role in patients with PS1 alone remains controversial. Therefore, we aimed to explore its application in such patients and identify potential candidates.MethodsEligible liver-confined HCC patients undergoing liver resection were retrospectively screened in 15 Chinese tertiary hospitals, with limited tumor burden, liver function and PS scores. Cox-regression survival analysis was used to investigate the prognostic factors and develop a risk-scoring system, according to which patients were substratified using fitting curves and the predictive values of PS were explored in each stratification.ResultsFrom January 2010 to October 2021, 1535 consecutive patients were selected. In the whole cohort, PS, AFP, tumor size and albumin were correlated with survival (adjusted P<0.05), based on which risk scores of every patient were calculated and ranged from 0 to 18. Fitting curve analysis demonstrated that the prognostic abilities of PS varied with risk scores and that the patients should be divided into three risk stratifications. Importantly, in the low-risk stratification, PS lost its prognostic value, and patients with PS1 alone achieved a satisfactory 5-year survival rate of 78.0%, which was comparable with that PS0 patients (84.6%).ConclusionSelected patients with PS1 alone and an ideal baseline condition may benefit from liver resection and may migrate forward to BCLC stage A

    Identify optimal HAP series scores for unresectable HCC patients undergoing TACE plus sorafenib: A Chinese multicenter observational study

    BackgroundHepatoma arterial-embolization prognostic (HAP) series scores have been proposed for prognostic prediction in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). However, their prognostic value in TACE plus sorafenib (TACE-S) remains unknown. Here, we aim to evaluate their prognostic performance in such conditions and identify the best model for this combination therapy.MethodsBetween January 2012 and December 2018, consecutive patients with uHCC receiving TACE-S were recruited from 15 tertiary hospitals in China. Cox regression analyses were used to investigate the prognostic values of baseline factors and every scoring system. Their prognostic performance and discriminatory performance were evaluated and confirmed in subgroup analyses.ResultsA total of 404 patients were enrolled. In the whole cohort, the median follow-up period was 44.2 (interquartile range (IQR), 33.2–60.7) months, the median overall survival (OS) time was 13.2 months, and 336 (83.2%) patients died at the end of the follow-up period. According to multivariate analyses, HAP series scores were independent prognostic indicators of OS. In addition, the C-index, Akaike information criterion (AIC) values, and time-dependent area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) indicated that modified HAP (mHAP)-III had the best predictive performance. Furthermore, the results remained consistent in most subsets of patients.ConclusionHAP series scores exhibited good predictive ability in uHCC patients accepting TACE-S, and the mHAP-III score was found to be superior to the other HAP series scores in predicting OS. Future prospective high-quality studies should be conducted to confirm our results and help with treatment decision-making

    Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome

    The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers ∼99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of ∼1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead

    Floquet Weyl nodes in Weyl semimetal via a one-photon resonance

    Topological phase transition under the influence of periodic driving is regarded as one of the major topics in materials science. For most materials, we usually expect a full dynamical gap opened at the resonance energy (εcεv=ω)(\varepsilon_c - \varepsilon_v = \hbar\omega) , which can convert a topologically trivial state into a Floquet topological insulator state. However, according to both analytical and numerical calculations, we find that new Weyl nodes emerge on the resonance sphere when a Weyl semimetal is irradiated by any kind of continuous driving. These nodes are called Floquet Weyl nodes due to linear dispersion around them. In general cases, we can find four Floquet Weyl nodes, which have the same chiralities with the equilibrium Weyl node
