Primary neoplasms of choroid plexus are rare. Six morphological variants have been described: papillary, cystic, acinar, mucus-secreting, oncocytic, and anaplastic. The anaplastic variant, the so-called choroid plexus carcinoma, is the rarest of all and can metastasize. The differential diagnosis of the anaplastic variant of choroid plexus neoplasms with adenocarcinomas, melanomas and indifferentiated neoplasms can be troublesome chiefly in adults. The now large use of immunocytochemical techniques in tissue section has become a powerful tool in the analysis of cell lineages, tumoral and non-tumoral. Nevertheless, the choroid plexus neoplasms have shown a complex and a somewhat confusing pattern of antigenic expression. In two choroid plexus carcinomas (one localized in the right lateral ventricle from a boy of 1 year and 9 months old, and the other localized in the left lateral ventricle from a girl of 3 years old) the following antigens were searched (using the avidin-biotin-peroxydase complex): glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies; cytokeratins of 40-50kDa, cytokeratins of 60-70kDA (callus cytokeratin), neuronal specific enolase (NSE) and S-100 protein with monoclonal antibodies. The two neoplasms showed immunoreactivity against NSE, S-100 protein and cytokeratin of 40-50kDA The neoplasm of the boy exhibited glial differentiation having immunoreactivity against GFAP with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies

A better understanding of pasture ecosystem can be obtained through the use of 13C discrimination technique. In this context, an experiment, assigned in a randomized complete block design with four replicates, was conducted to evaluate the Δ 13C (‰) discrimination, nitrogen (N) yield (kg N ha-¹), total nitrogen content (g kg dry matter (DM)-¹) and dry matter yield (kg DM ha-¹) on an irrigated Tanzania grass pasture (Panicum maximum, Jacq.) receiving increasing rates (0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg N ha-¹ cut-¹) of N fertilizer during the summer. Dry matter yield, N yield and nitrogen concentration increased quadratically with increasing levels of N fertilizer (P \u3c 0.05). On the other hand, Δ values tended to decrease linearly with increasing levels of N fertilizer (P \u3e 0.05). Besides that, negative and significant correlations (P \u3c 0.05) were evident between either Δ values and dry matter yield (R = -0,4807) and D values and N yield (R = -0,5245). Overall results allow to establish the following conclusions: 1) at lower N fertilizer inputs tropical pastures tended to show higher discrimination against 13C though this effect might be associated with lower N concentrations in plant tissue that, in turn, might add inefficiency to the C4 photosynthetic pathway and 2) lower dry matter and N yields were associated with higher 13C discrimination values. Conversely, higher dry matter and N yields were associated to lower 13C discrimination values

CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOFAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOGuided by gauge principles we discuss a predictive and falsifiable UV complete model where the Dirac fermion that accounts for the cold dark matter abundance in our Universe induces the lepton flavor violation (LFV) decays mu -gt; e gamma and mu -gt; eee as well as mu - e conversion. We explore the interplay between direct dark matter detection, relic density, collider probes and lepton flavor violation to conclusively show that one may have a viable dark matter candidate yielding flavor violation signatures that can be probed in the upcoming experiments. In fact, keeping the dark matter mass at the TeV scale, a sizable LFV signal is possible, while reproducing the correct dark matter relic density and meeting limits from direct-detection experiments.977111CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOFAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOCNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOFAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOsem informação2016/01343-

The aim was to determine if bacterial inoculants could eliminate E. coli O157:H7 (ECOL) in contaminated corn silages and if inoculants transferred antibacterial activity to silages. Chopped corn forage was ensiled in triplicate after treatment with:1) distilled water (control); 2) 5 x 105 cfu/g of ECOL (EC); 3) EC and 1 x 106 cfu/g of Pediococcus pentosaceus and Propionibacterium freudenreichii (EC+BII); 4) EC and 1 x 106 cfu/g of Lactobacillus buchneri (LB; EC+LB); 5) EC and 1 x 106 cfu/g of LB and P. pentosaceus (EC+B500). Silos were opened after 3, 7, 31, and 82 d and analyzed for pH and ECOL counts as well as VFA, lactate, and aerobic stability on d 82. By d 3, all silages had pH was <4 (SE=0.33; p=1) and pH did not increase subsequently; therefore ECOL was not detected in any silage. The Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion test showed that all pure cultures of inoculants had pH-independent antibacterial activity against ECOL but inoculated silages did not, suggesting that ECOL elimination was mediated by pH reduction. Inoculation with LB resulted in less lactate (SE=0.31; p<0.05), more acetate (SE=0.35; p<0.05), and greater aerobic stability (SE=7.1; p<0.05) versus control. Day-82 silages were reinoculated with EC at silo opening (immediate) or after 144 h of exposure (delay) and ECOL were enumerated 24 h later. All immediately reinoculated silages had low pH values (<4) and no ECOL 24 h later. Control, EC, and EC+BII silages reinoculated after the delay had relatively high pH values (4.71, 5.67, and 6.03) (SE=0.74; p<0.05) and ECOL counts (2.87, 6.73, and 6.87 log cfu/g) (SE=1.4; p<0.05), whereas those treated with LB had low pH values (<4) and undetectable (EC+B500) or low ECOL counts (1.96, cfu/g; EC+LB). Inoculants did not enhance elimination of ECOL during ensiling, but L. buchneri inoculants increased stability and eliminated or inhibited ECOL in aerobically exposed silages
