Heavy metal bioaccumulation by the important food plant, olea europaea L., in an ancient metalliferous polluted area of Cyprus
Aspects of the bioaccumulation of heavy metals are reviewed and possible evidence of homeostasis is highlighted. Examination and analysis of olive (Olea europaea L.) trees growing in close proximity to a copper dominated spoil tip dating from at least 2000 years BP, on the island of Cyprus, revealed both bioaccumulation and partitioning of copper, lead and zinc in various parts of the tree. A factor to quantify the degree of accumulation is illustrated and a possible seed protective mechanism suggested

The bioaccumulation of tungsten and copper by organisms inhabiting metalliferous areas in North Queensland: an evaluation of potential health effects
Aspects of the mining history of major metalliferous sites in North Queensland, Australia are described by reference to areas which formerly were important in the production of metals such as tungsten (wolfram) and copper. Bioaccumulation in organisms inhabiting three derelict polluted areas, within this arid open savanna region, is discussed and potential toxicological implications are described. Certain plant species are noted to possess excessively enhanced bioaccumulatory capacities and the cations within these forage plants may affect herbivorous species such as cattle; skeletons of such herbivores are found to exhibit enhanced metal concentrations. Ultimately humans may be recipients of these toxic elements
JW Reason Family Science Extravaganza
IMPACT. 1: Support K-5 STEM education in the Hilliard school district. -- 2. Foster exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics as a shared experience between students and their family members. -- 3. Serve as a model for the diversity of genders, ethnicities, and races in STEM fields. Promote the fun of STEM exploration and investigation.OSU PARTNERS: NEURO (Neuroscience Education for Urban and Rural Outreach); OSU Kappa Phi Kappa Alpha Eta chapter; OSU Food Science Club; OSU Society of Women in Physics; OSU Women in Engineering; OSU Graduate Program in Genetic CounselingCOMMUNITY PARTNERS: Hilliard School System; JW Reason Elementary PTO; Columbus State Community; College; WBNS-TV; Nationwide Children's Hospital; NASA; COSI; Columbus Parks and Recreation Department; EvalSolutions Inc.PRIMARY CONTACT:Â Robert Pyatt ([email protected])Unlike other large cities, Columbus lacks a community science festival. Consequently, we have organized the JW Family Science Extravaganza as a proof-in-principle of such an event. Now in its fourth year, the JW Family Science Extravaganza is a satellite event of the USA Science and Engineering Festival. The event is held in an elementary school within the Hilliard City Schools district and features over twenty inquiry based activities for students and their families to explore
Duong, M.D. v. Fielden Hanson Isaacs Miyada Robinson Yeh, LTD., 136 Nev. Adv. Op. 87 (Dec. 31, 2020)
The Nevada Supreme Court considered whether the district court may blue-pencil an otherwise unenforceable noncompetition agreement, which included a provision authorizing the court to remedy unreasonably restrictive clauses. The Court previously held in Golden Road that a district court cannot on its own volition blue-pencil an unreasonably restrictive provision. However, the Court held that Golden Roaddoes not prohibit a district court from blue-penciling an unreasonable provision when the agreement itself allows the court to do so. Thus, the Court affirmed the district courtâs order granting the preliminary injunction, because the agreement at issue had a provision that allowed for a court to blue-pencil unreasonable provisions
Clark County v. Eliason, 136 Nev. Adv. Op. 49 (July 30, 2020)
The Court was asked by the United States District Court for the District of Nevada to clarify the removal process of a constable who forfeited the office under NRS 258.007. The Court held that under NRS 258.007 forfeiture occurs automatically if the officer fails to timely become a certified category II peace officer. Thus, the Court stated that the Clark County Board of Commissioners (Board) has neither the authority nor need to remove a constable and additionally, quo warranto action is not warranted for removal under this statute
Measuring the activity of European and African Countries using Social Accounting Matrices
Economic models at the micro, meso and macro levels presuppose the existence of consistent
databases that make it possible to quantify the activity of enterprises, sectors, regions, countries or
continents. Such models can also be important aids in the policy decision process, since they permit
the construction of scenarios resulting from the adoption of policy measures and the consequent
changes that they introduce.
When consistent with the United Nations System of National Accounts (SNA), the Social
Accounting Matrix (SAM) can include all the nominal flows of the measured part of the economy,
at the level of both production and the institutions, and therefore satisfies these requirements. Thus,
in its numerical version, a SAM constitutes a database and provides a snapshot of the measured
reality at a certain moment, whereas its possible algebraic versions, i.e. models that are based upon
it, permit the construction of the above-mentioned scenarios.
The possibility and usefulness of constructing SAMs for African countries consistent with the SNA
will be examined and experimented. The SAMâs basic structure and consistency within the whole
system will be studied, as well as any possible disaggregations, extensions, aggregates, indicators
and balances that can be calculated. Other aspects beyond that basic structure will also be examined
in order to show to what extent the SAM is capable of covering parts of the economy that are not
covered by the SNA.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
