Public Engagement Trends in Southwestern Ontario’s Municipalities

    Get PDF
This paper explores what topics municipalities are utilizing public engagement for the most and the reasons behind those decisions, as well as the tools that municipalities are using most frequently to engage the public and the associated rationales behind those decisions. The research data was collected using an online questionnaire that was sent to various municipalities in Southwestern Ontario. The findings reveal that the respondent municipalities are engaging in public engagement to some extent, particularly with provincially legislated topics. Furthermore, traditional tools of engagement, such as public meetings, are favoured over innovative tools, and the benefits associated with local problem solving are a priority for municipalities in Southwestern Ontario

Finite element modeling of the upsetting of an anisotropic cylindrical workpiece

Anisotropic material deformation is modeled with the application of the finite element method. Hill's yield criterion is used for simplified conditions of the upsetting process. The largest flow stress direction is determined to be parallel to all the three coordinate axes by turns. It is discovered that the base of the cylinder can take an oval shape when the flow stress directions of various values lie in the base plane. In this case, the smaller axis of the oval corresponds to the largest flow stress direction. When the flow stress directions of various values lie in the longitudinal section plane of the workpiece, its shape remains cylindrical. The deformation load is higher in this case. © 2017 Author(s)

Influence of Cold Rolling Temperature Rise on the Young‘s Modulus of Commercial Fe-3%Si Steel

Dynamic mechanical analysis was performed on the sheets of commercial grainoriented steel Fe-3%Si in annealed and cold-rolled conditions. The Young‘s modulus was measured according to the 3-point bending scheme in the temperature range of 20…550 ∘C. The difference between the values of the elastic properties in the rolling direction and transverse directions were explained with the peculiarities of the structural and textural states. Two extreme points in the Young‘s modulus temperature dependence are explained with the oxidation process, which occurs during heating of the samples. The obtained data can be employed to refine the simulation of the stress-strain state in cold rolling of commercial Fe-3%Si by the finite element method.     Keywords: Grain-oriented steel, cold rolling, storage modulus, dynamic mechanical analysis, anisotropy, crystallographic textur

Evaluating the flow stress of electrical steel under cold rolling in terms of the strain-rate hardening effect

The flow stress of the Fe+3%Si electrical steel under actual cold rolling conditions is evaluated on the basis of the approximation of the existing data on the work hardening and strain-rate hardening of this steel during cold tensile testing. It has been discovered that ductility is significant during electrical steel cold rolling and, besides, that its value is lower for large strains and strain rates than for low strains and strain rates. © 2016 Author(s)

Factors and characteristics of east Slavic politogenesis

The paper is dedicated to the factors and characteristics of East Slavic politogenesis. The role of internal (development of the productive economy, population density, natural environment, ideology) and external (war, distant commerce, cultural diffusion) factors is analyzed by using a multilinear approach. It is shown that on the eve of the formation of the Ancient Russian state, under the harsh natural conditions of Eastern Europe and low population density, the low level of productive economy (especially cottage industry) defined the character of the undeveloped social stratification and potestary institutions of the East Slavs. The geopolitical position at the civilizational fracture zones and the region’s exposure to external invasions were another influence on these processes. With the impact of the internal factors being limited, external factors were crucial in defining the military character of the East Slavic politogenesis. Refs 38

Strain Distribution Influence for Cold Rolling Process Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel Strip Surface State

For the industrial reversing mill cold rolling scheme influence scheme on the surface layer state of a grain-oriented steel strip was investigated. On base of metallographic analysis, difference of surface oxide layer state depending of cold rolling passes number was investigated. It was demonstrated that the strip surface rolled in less passes is more suitable for coating.Автор выражает благодарность научному руководителю — доктору технических наук, профессору Ю.Н.
