Realization of New Electronically Controllable Grounded and Floating Simulated Inductance Circuits Using Voltage Differencing Differential Input Buffered Amplifiers

A new active circuit is proposed for the realisation of lossless grounded and floating inductance employing Voltage Differencing Differential Input Buffered Amplifiers (VD-DIBAs). The proposed grounded simulated inductance circuit employs two VD-DIBAs and a single-grounded capacitor whereas the floating simulated inductance circuit employs three VD-DIBAs and a grounded capacitor. The circuit for grounded inductance does not require any realization conditions whereas in case of floating inductance, only equality of two transconductances is needed. Some sample results demonstrating the applications of the new simulated inductors using VD-DIBAs have been given to confirm the workability of the new circuits

Roadmap on emerging concepts in the physical biology of bacterial biofilms: from surface sensing to community formation

Bacterial biofilms are communities of bacteria that exist as aggregates that can adhere to surfaces or be free-standing. This complex, social mode of cellular organization is fundamental to the physiology of microbes and often exhibits surprising behavior. Bacterial biofilms are more than the sum of their parts: single-cell behavior has a complex relation to collective community behavior, in a manner perhaps cognate to the complex relation between atomic physics and condensed matter physics. Biofilm microbiology is a relatively young field by biology standards, but it has already attracted intense attention from physicists. Sometimes, this attention takes the form of seeing biofilms as inspiration for new physics. In this roadmap, we highlight the work of those who have taken the opposite strategy: we highlight the work of physicists and physical scientists who use physics to engage fundamental concepts in bacterial biofilm microbiology, including adhesion, sensing, motility, signaling, memory, energy flow, community formation and cooperativity. These contributions are juxtaposed with microbiologists who have made recent important discoveries on bacterial biofilms using state-of-the-art physical methods. The contributions to this roadmap exemplify how well physics and biology can be combined to achieve a new synthesis, rather than just a division of labor

В биологии издавна отмечались попытки представить объект её исследования – живой организм – в виде системы (целостности). Основной смысл этой концепции заключается в том, что, рассматривая свойства живого организма как системы, принципиально и категорически недопустимо: а) формировать представления о них аддитивным способом или отождествлять со свойствами составляющих его структурных образований; б) трактовать (объяснять) исходя из знаний и представлений свойств составляющих его структурных образований. Общая теория систем, теории функциональных универсальных блоков, функциональных систем, общего адаптационного синдрома являются теоретической основой методологии комплекса лечебно­профилактических мероприятий активационно­адаптогенной терапии, в результате которой достигают: а) нормализации физиологических и регенеративных процессов; б) активизации репаративных процессов. Курс комплексной неспецифической активационно­адаптогенной терапии был проведен у более 450 пациентов. В результате перевода организма человека в состояние тренировки, спокойной или повышенной активации, иммунокомпетентная система более эффективно выполняет свою биологическую функцию – сохранение и восстановление генетически обусловленного морфофункционального гомеокинезиса. Отражением этого является достижение позитивных клинических результатов: 1) улучшение качества жизни; 2) улучшение показателей функции органов и систем организма человека; 3) восстановление генетически обусловленной морфофункциональной организации тканей в патологически изменённых очагах (что подтверждается ультразвуковыми и рентгенологическими исследованиями). ПРИМЕНЕНИЕ ТАДАЛАФИЛА ДЛЯ ЛЕЧЕНИЯ ЭРЕКТИЛЬНОЙ ДИСФУНКЦИИ У ПАЦИЕНТОВ, ПЕРЕНЕСШИХ РАДИКАЛЬНУЮ ПРОСТАТЭКТОМИЮ

Erectile dysfunction is a frequent complication of radical prostatectomy despite numerous modifications in surgical technique. The term «penile rehabilitation» refers usually to treatments intended to restore functional penile erection after radical prostatectomy. Selective phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors are the mainstay of this rehabilitation at present. Tadalafil seems a logical choice for recovering of erectile functionafter radical prostatectomy given its prolonged duration of action. The once-daily dose of tadalafil has the theoretical benefit in terms of safety and separation of medication from sexual activity. In this paper we review the published clinical and basic science research studies on the role of tadalafil in patients with postprostatectomy erectile dysfunction.Несмотря на постоянное усовершенствование техники радикальной простатэктомии (РПЭ), эректильная дисфункция остается нередким осложнением операции. Термином «пенильная реабилитация» обычно обозначают различные виды терапии, направленные на восстановление эректильной функции после РПЭ. Большинство программ реабилитации включает назначение селективных ингибиторов фосфодиэстеразы 5-го типа (иФДЭ-5). В настоящее время тадалафил имеет преимущество перед другими иФДЭ-5 вследствие длительного периода полувыведения, а также наличия формы препарата для ежедневного приема, позволяющей исключить взаимосвязь сексуальной активности с приемом лекарства и благодаря уменьшенной дозировке теоретически меньшую вероятность побочных эффектов лечения. Experimental demonstration of radicaloid character in a RuV=O intermediate in catalytic water oxidation

Water oxidation is the key half reaction in artificial photosynthesis. An absence of detailed mechanistic insight impedes design of new catalysts that are more reactive and more robust. A proposed paradigm leading to enhanced reactivity is the existence of oxyl radical intermediates capable of rapid water activation, but there is a dearth of experimental validation. Here, we show the radicaloid nature of an intermediate reactive toward formation of the O-O bond by assessing the spin density on the oxyl group by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR). In the study, an 17O-labeled form of a highly oxidized, short-lived intermediate in the catalytic cycle of the water oxidation catalyst cis,cis-[(2,2-bipyridine)2(H2O)RuIIIORuIII(OH2)(bpy)2]4+ was investigated. It contains Ru centers in oxidation states [4,5], has at least one RuV = O unit, and shows |Axx| = 60G 17O hyperfine splittings (hfs) consistent with the high spin density of a radicaloid. Destabilization of π-bonding in the d3 RuV = O fragment is responsible for the high spin density on the oxygen and its high reactivity
