South Portland’s Energy Action Plan (EAP) has not been updated since the completion and approval of the most recent South Portland Comprehensive Plan in October 2012. The current EAP has three phases, of which the first has been partially implemented, calling for energy and other resource conservation practices to be put in place in all City departments. Phase 2 is concerned with how the municipality can engage and incentivize businesses within the City to address energy use and efficiency, and is discussed in three sections below. Phase 3, yet to be drafted, will address residential opportunities for decreased energy use and consumption

Sociological and political theories on the professions indicate that established professions utilize unique forms of inquiry and interpretation to guide practice. This essay argues that for teaching to become professionalized, unique forms of inquiry and interpretation need to be emphasized. Utilizing the concept of professional jurisdiction, the essay argues that other professions\u27 forms of inquiry, while not detrimental to the purpose of teacher professionalization, do not establish the distinctive skills upon which teachers can lay claim

United We Sing: Union Hymnals, Holiness Hymnody, and the Formation of Korean Revivalism (1905-2007)

The history of Christianity long has recognized the transatlantic revival connections in both the First and Second Awakenings, with preaching being noted as the primary means of communicating the revival message. During the past century, transpacific revivalism has become a significant part of the world history of Christianity. In Korean Protestantism, revivalism has been rooted within the majority religious experience, with hymns and gospel songs as an important medium. While North American denominations have used separate hymnals and have tended to exclude revival hymns from their selections, Korean Protestants have used the same hymnal from the beginning and have retained those hymns that are more expressive of revivalism, especially those from the Holiness movement. Martial hymns that convey the spiritual warfare of Christians in Korea were criticized by Yun Chiho as being meaningless to Korean culture, which he portrayed as connected to the pen and not the sword. However, the martial hymns, such as Up, and fight against the devil, have been included in all subsequent editions of the Union Hymnal, and they remain an important source of revival piety. From the earliest efforts to select and translate hymns, through music education for Korean congregations, and on to the final process of editing and publishing a Union Hymnal, the Korea missionaries have placed a premium on congregational singing. In conclusion, although much of holiness hymnody in Korea was taken from the margins of the Salvation Army and the Oriental \u27Missionary Society, a closer look at transpacific revivalism will reveal that it was led by missionaries from mainline denominations in North America, was enhanced further by visiting evangelists such as H. C. Morrison, G. W. Ridout, and R. A. Torrey, and was contextualized finally by Korean Protestants in the recent publication of the New Hymnal 2007

Organizational and Practitioner Characteristics that Impact Implementation Fidelity of Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

In the field of child welfare, previous research has largely focused on assessing the efficacy and effectiveness of interventions rather than the implementation of the intervention. The primary aim of this dissertation was to expand understanding of implementation fidelity of an evidence-based practice (EBP) among community setting practitioners working with trauma exposed youth impacted by the child welfare system. The goal was to document specific practitioner and organizational characteristics that may influence implementation fidelity. This dissertation is a secondary analysis of implementation fidelity of a volunteer practitioner group (N=201) that participated in TF-CBT training. To identify organizational and practitioner predictors of implementation fidelity, binary and multivariate logistical regression analyses were conducted. The following predictor variables were examined: practitioner belief in the value of EBPs; practitioner belief in personal skillset; practitioner endorsement of supervisory requirements; and, practitioner age and clinical experience. Possible moderating organizational variables, organizational readiness and management support also were explored. Analyses revealed a significant positive association between practitioner belief in their skillset and implementation fidelity. Additionally, practitioner years of experience were inversely related to implementation fidelity; the odds of implementing TF-CBT with fidelity were lower for more senior practitioners. Findings suggest the importance of including skill set enhancement components in practitioner training; such components may be particular critical for ensuring treatment fidelity among more experienced clinicians. It is well known that treatment is most effective when implemented with fidelity. Thus, ensuring treatment fidelity is incumbent upon federal, state, and private agencies charged with providing treatment. Through this lens, the applied and scholarly implications of the study’s findings are explored

Adaptations of International Standards on Educational Leadership Preparation in Egypt

    Get PDF
This paper is a case study of one leadership preparation program, utilizing US school leadership standards and practices, offered in Egypt. This case study illuminates how cultural and policy distinctions impact differing necessities of educational leadership, and how those necessities conflict or concur with the international standards and assumed best practices. In particular, it serves as an exploration of policy borrowing, considering that leadership preparation in developed countries has been, on some levels, an issue of occupational field professionalization
