    Dominican Scholar: Approaching 1 Million Downloads

    Dominican Scholar (DS) is the institutional repository for Dominican University of California; it acts as an essential platform for: Advancing the Dominican Experience by collecting, preserving, and making accessible student signature work and faculty research, in order to maximize visibility and impact of the work created by our community. Sharing our scholarship freely, both locally and internationally, in order to equal access to information and to give back to the community. DS started in September 2014 with 80 masters theses collected as electronic documents from 2012. As of September 10, 2020 it contains 3,786 masters, senior and honors theses, faculty authored articles, photographs, videos, and audio recordings that are publicly available. Those deposited items have been downloaded a total of 832,878 times. Currently, DS experiences approximately 21,000 downloads per month giving us a current projection of 1 million downloads by the end of the 2020-21 Academic Year

    Many small schools worry that they don’t have the resources to launch and run a successful institutional repository initiative. It might come as a surprise that their very smallness comes with sizable advantages. At Dominican University of California, Michael Pujals, Scholarly Communications Librarian, has identified and successfully drawn on these advantages to build a thriving initiative in a short amount of time, including offering services for conference and journal hosting, thesis and capstone publication, and individual scholar pages for faculty members

Primary Objectives To collect and make accessible Dominican University of California (the University) research and creative works – e.g. journal articles, working papers, presentations, media - in a centralized online repository. To organize the University’s research and creative works, and to share them with the community – locally and globally. To disseminate the University’s research and creative works through open availability on the Internet
