Typology of caregiving situations in Europe: A cluster analysis approach
It presents a description of the different caregiving situations at the European level, by examining the characteristics of both the caregiver and the cared for perso
Greek versions of the Oswestry and Roland-Morris disability questionnaires
Disability questionnaires are increasingly used for clinical assessment,
outcome measurement of treatment and research methodology of low back
pain. Their use in different countries and cultural groups must follow
certain guidelines for translation and cross-cultural adaptation. The
translation of such an instrument must be tested for its reliability and
validity to be applied and to allow comparability of data. The Oswestry
Disability Index and the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire are two
disability questionnaires most commonly used as outcome measures in
patients with low back pain. The two questionnaires were translated for
use with the Greek population, were back translated and tested, and
became available in a final version. The Greek versions of the Oswestry
Disability Index and the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire were
tested in 697 patients with low back pain. Internal consistency
reliability for the Greek translation of the Oswestry Disability Index
and the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire reached a Cronbach’s
alpha coefficient of 0.833 and 0.885 respectively. Face validity and
content validity were ensured. Concurrent validity was assessed using a
six-point pain scale as a criterion. The correlation of both scales was
significant. The Greek translation of these disability questionnaires
provided reliable and valid instruments for the evaluation of
Greek-speaking patients with low back pain
Typology of caregiving situations in Europe: A cluster analysis approach
The chapter describes the development, by using cluster analysis, of a typology of caregiving situations in Europe on the basis of the main variables included in the Eurofamcare study. Both variables regarding the older person and variables regarding the caregiver were include

Performance evaluation of a small-scale latent heat thermal energy storage unit for heating applications based on a nanocomposite organic PCM
A small-scale latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) unit for heating applications was studied experimentally using an organic phase change material (PCM). The unit comprised of a tank filled with the PCM, a staggered heat exchanger (HE) for transferring heat from and to the PCM, and a water pump to circulate water as a heat transfer fluid (HTF). The performance of the unit using the commercial organic paraffin A44 was studied in order to understand the thermal behavior of the system and the main parameters that influence heat transfer during the PCM melting and solidification processes. The latter will assist the design of a large-scale unit. The effect of flow rate was studied given that it significantly affects charging (melting) and discharging (solidification) processes. In addition, as organic PCMs have low thermal conductivity, the possible improvement of the PCM’s thermal behavior by means of nanoparticle addition was investigated. The obtained results were promising and showed that the use of graphite-based nanoplatelets improves the PCM thermal behavior. Charging was clearly faster and more efficient, while with the appropriate tuning of the HTF flow rate, an efficient discharging was accomplished. © 2019 by the authors. A randomized trial predicting response to cognitive rehabilitation in multiple sclerosis: Is there a window of opportunity?
© The Author(s), 2022.Background: Cognitive training elicits mild-to-moderate improvements in cognitive functioning in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS), although response heterogeneity limits overall effectiveness. Objective: To identify patient characteristics associated with response and non-response to cognitive training. Methods: Eighty-two PwMS were randomized into a 7-week attention training (n = 58, age = 48.4 ± 10.2 years) or a waiting-list control group (n = 24, age = 48.5 ± 9.4 years). Structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was obtained at baseline and post-intervention. Twenty-one healthy controls (HCs, age = 50.27 ± 10.15 years) were included at baseline. Responders were defined with a reliable change index of 1.64 on at least 2/6 cognitive domains. General linear models and logistic regression were applied. Results: Responders (n = 36) and non-responders (n = 22) did not differ on demographics, clinical variables and baseline cognition and structural MRI. However, non-responders exhibited a higher baseline functional connectivity (FC) between the default-mode network (DMN) and the ventral attention network (VAN), compared with responders (p = 0.018) and HCs (p = 0.001). Conversely, responders exhibited no significant baseline differences in FC compared with HCs. Response to cognitive training was predicted by lower DMN-VAN FC (p = 0.004) and DMN-frontoparietal FC (p = 0.029) (Nagelkerke R2 = 0.25). Conclusion: An intact pre-intervention FC is associated with cognitive training responsivity in pwMS, suggesting a window of opportunity for successful cognitive interventions
