The main objective of this article is to provide insights on how applications can interact with each other on the Web using Web services. The article is devoted to Web services and their basics, as well as to technologies such as REST-compliant (RESTful) and arbitrary (XML, SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, XML-RPC) that are used to implement them

Modern approaches to reduce webpage load times

    Get PDF
Nowadays, many modern websites offer a variety of information services, providing a dynamically generated content for the end user. However, the more users are trying to obtain such content, the slower becomes its loading time in their browsers. This article explains the mentioned problem in detail, as well as examines the roots of this problem

METHODOLOGY OF GROUP WORK ORGANISATION FOR STUDENT LEARNING PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

    Get PDF
The article describes the methodology of learning programming for students of various engineering disciplines. The course "Algorithmization and Programming of Solutions" is taught to all first-year students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology in Riga Technical University and provides the basic knowledge of the principles of computational process algorithmization and software creation technology using Java programming language. There are 8 laboratory assignments in the course, where students have to develop a software programme and 2 group work assignments, where the student has to develop some algorithms to solve a given problem, write a programme, evaluate the speed of developed algorithms and prepare a presentation on the results of their research. The article describes the main principles of efficient student group work organisation that lets to increase their interest and motivate them to participate in the course in a responsible way. This paper is focused on research on how group work influences student learning performance

The Demand for the Healthcare Services: the Opportunities of Big Data in Predicting Patient Flow

    Get PDF
Nowadays, healthcare field is tightly connected with information technologies, in particular, big data technologies. The simulation of the patients flow in the health care system can significantly enhance the effectiveness of its work. The main purpose of the model improvement is to take into account the features of patient care to enable end users to obtain forecast values at the output. Thus, these values can subsequently become the starting point for decision-making by the management. In this paper, the analysis of the demand for medical services in European hospitals was carried out to determine the required amount of resources within the use of the modern analytical methods. The study contains a description of big data technologies in healthcare; executes the beneficial side of its implementation. The research showed that the science community made a great effort in the development of the indus- try, however, privacy and security issues, standards establishments still require enormous attention and new efforts to be made in the study area. The study is also focused on the predicting the resources, which are needed for a medical institution

    FEEDBACK METHOD IN LECTURER-STUDENT INTERACTION

    Get PDF
The learning process at any stage involves direct interaction between the lecturer and students. The article discusses the lecturer-student relationship as one of the factors that influences the teaching process and improvement of learning materials on the example of the study course “Computer Science”. The study aims at using the results of the survey, as well as student tests as a feedback method to improve the quality of the presentation of new material to first-year students considering the basic knowledge of obtained secondary education. The article discusses two methods of feedback: survey and testing. Survey is considered a method with high efficiency of obtaining information, a possibility of organising mass surveys, an ability to accurately process student survey results. Testing is viewed as a method to identify the level of knowledge and skills, as well as the abilities and other qualities of the educator to meet certain standards by analysing the ways, in which a student performs a number of special tasks. Both methods perfectly complement each other and provide an opportunity to more objectively analyse the learning situation. The article presents the results of the study on the example of the study course “Computer Science” for three academic years, describes changes in the structure of the course, as well as changes in the conduction of practical classes within the course, which improved student performance

This paper describes the actual problem of organizing the process of professional education of students in applied problems in their specialty. The problem is considered from two aspects: pedagogical (substantive) and technical, while the solution of learning problems is planned to be realized with the help of new information technologies. The article describes two study schemes based on two programming technologies: VBA and the Arduino platform, explores the advantages and disadvantages of each scheme, and provides examples of specific tasks and the results of a survey of first-year students, which study scheme is most suitable for professional education. The study involved first-year students of RTUFaculty of Electrical and Environmental Engineering, studying the educational course “Computer science”

PERCEPTION OF FORCED DISTANCE LEARNING BY IT STUDENTS: THE INFLUENCE OF GENDER AND JUNGIAN PERSONALITY TYPES

    Get PDF
Learning in a pandemic situation has shown an increased role and need for research and implementation of personalized learning, and therefore the factors necessary to take into account when forming such an approach. The purpose of this study was, firstly, to find out how students of technical specialties perceive the fact to refuse from classroom studies, and, secondly, to determine the influence of person’s individual characteristics on attitude towards distance learning. The research results showed that a significant part of full-time IT students (about 70%) reacted positively to the advantages of distance learning and that the attitude towards this form of education is to some extent determined by gender, as well as a manifestation of Introversion-Extraversion and Thinking-Feeling
