Purpose- The study aims to identify, and to compare the awareness and attitude of faculties and students towards Open Access Resources. Design/methodology/approach- The study employed a mixed method research approach. A survey has been conducted among purposively selected students (52) and faculties (17) through distributing a structured questionnaire(1-5 point likert scale, and open ended).SPSS v.20 and coding method have been used for analyzing quantitative and qualitative data respectively. Findings-Both faculties and students had positive perceptions towards OARs though faculties were more knowledgeable than students in terms of understanding on major OA concepts. Digital format and free availability were considered as motivational factors for using OARs. Both respondents indicatedplagiarism and copyright violation as important vulnerabilities in using OARs. Originality/value-This paper highlights the awareness level of faculties and students towards open access resources in higher education in scholarly research. Apart from purposes, sources, preferable model, and state of publication in open access mode, the study focuses on motivational factor, vulnerabilities, and integration of open access resources in higher education and scholarly research from faculties and students perspectives which demonstrateits originality. Implication- It would generate awareness among the academics, library professionals as well as OA publishers topromote OARs for wider use. .Paper type-Research pape

    Some Remarks about Ordinary Wills

    Get PDF
In the case that a decedent bequeathed legal assets to be enforced after the death, a will must follow the legal form. Otherwise, such will shall be void. A common form of the will is an ordinary will under the Civil and Commercial Code section 1656. To make an ordinary will, ot must be made in writing, dated at the time of the making of the will and signed by the testator before at least two witnesses present at the same time who shall then and there sign their names certifying the signature of the testator. The witnesses shall not obtain incompatibilities according to the Civil and Commercial Code section 1670 as follow: persons not sui juris, persons of unsound mind or persons adjudged quasi-incompetent, or persons who are deaf or dumb or blind. Moreover, witnesses in a will or spouse cannot be legatee. However, even though a decedent willing to make a will without following a legal form may result in void but such will may complete if it obtains the elements of another form of the will

Corporate Governance and Company Directors: Are They Alice in Wonderland?

    Get PDF
Corporate governance is not a new concept. In fact the last 15 years has seen a surge in academic publications and case law in relation to the lack of corporate governance. Research Gap is that Company Directors are attending a “mad hatters’ tea party” when it comes to the implementation of governance codes, with the recent spate of court cases involving breaches of directors fiduciary duties. Methodology used was review of case law using archival data. This research looks at the type of case law issues of corporate governance in Australia and in particular accountability, and relates the case law to the Corporations Act (2001) to find where company directors are getting corporate governance wrong. The findings indicate that perhaps the “if not why not” prescription, should not be an option for corporate governance for some Boards. For some Boards the invitation from Alice to jump down the rabbit hole into creative accounting and bad board behaviour at the “mad hatters’ tea party” is just too great an incentive. Implications show that this review of important corporate governance case law will assist Boards to concentrate their efforts on improving the environment they operate in, as good governance equates to good business. “In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.” Carroll, Lewis (1865) Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Being rational and reliable in the analysis legal research is the most important part of the legal research process. Legal research process and analysis must be done in an orderly, systematic, methodical manner and accordance with the legal philosophy, jurisprudence research philosophy. Analyze honestly, unbiased, reasoning must be in accordance with universal rule (applied theory of law), not for individual reasons. Legal research will be beneficial to legal, social, development, and the legal profession. &nbsp

USING HYDROGEOPHYSICS & XRF TO PRODUCE A HIGH-RESOLUTION 3-DIMENSIONAL SOIL CADMIUM MAP FOR EVALUATING HYBRID WHEAT TRIALS

Cadmium (Cd) accumulation in wheat decreases germination, growth, grain yield, and in higher concentration leads to adverse effects on human health (Liu et al, 2018). Due to wheat cultivars variation in Cd accumulation, wheat breeders aim to select those at low Cd concentration lines in a field. Hence the need to quantify the concentration of Cd at different parts of a field and visually represent on a high resolution Cd distribution map. Various ways to quantify the concentration of soil Cd exist. However, the cost of equipment required make the process quite expensive and labor intensive. This work studied the feasibility of predicting the concentration of Cd and other soil chemical elements based on readily available environmental covariates collected at the site. These are electrical conductivity in shallow and deep zones (ECaS, ECaD), total gamma counts and elevation. Soil samples were collected from Havelock farm, analyzed in the lab and then results were used to train and test different statistical models to predict the occurrence of chemical elements in the soil. Showed statistical correlation between Geo-covariates and some soil element data (i.e. Zn & Fe) providing proof-of-concept for technique and warranting further investigation â€Ē At Havelock Cd was below level of detection â€Ē Adding VNIR to Geo-covariates improves prediction accuracy in nonlinear statistical model

Cosmopolitan Urbanism and Architecture & Paradigm Change in Research and Education in in Asia

    Get PDF
The genesis of human settlements is a continuous process of production and layering of spaces in different scale levels across historical periods. The architectural production in our Asian context is always cosmopolitan, hybrid and eclectic, due to historical links and inclusive cultural attitude. Our common building typologies – and also our modernization processes - are the product of the cosmopolitan communities, the articulation of the multi-layered tangible and intangible traditions, and the direct response to local micro-climate of this region. Diversity, eclecticism, fusion, acculturation, adaptation, can perhaps best describe the nature of our architecture and urbanism. Our architectural education now is in dire needs to develop a design-research culture to deal with social and environmental changes. Contemporarily we are in an urgent need to find resolutions to address serious problems posed by the climate change, ideological conflicts, economic greed, depletion of resources, and social justice. Research in architecture should be based on the reality on the ground and not just based on alien theories. Design should be based on the understanding of the real contextual problems, to formulate sensible, sensitive, and holistic solutions. Learning the lessons and wisdoms from our cosmopolitan architecture and urbanism is an important and necessary step towards the improvements and paradigm change in architectural education, research, and practice in Asian context
