Reka patching the city, international architecture workshop

The INA oil refinery, having a significant impact on the quality of life in Rijeka, is just about to complete the transfer of its oil production from the city to the southern penninsula of Bakar. Rijeka is thus acquiring great potential for developing new kinds of activity almost in the centre of the city. What is the quality of this newly acquired area? While the land is steep and hard to build on, the 50 ha of land and 2 km of waterfront being liberated from industry is priceless. An additional value lies in its rich industrial heritage and specific industrial building legacy. What happens to this land in the near future is therefore a very important issue. An international student workshop called PATCHING UP RIJEKA was organised by the City Council of Rijeka to generate some initial ideas about what Rijeka needs, and what the most suitable programme for the location would be. Firstly, we were introduced to the site and INA’s role in the everyday life of Rijeka in October 2009. At that time, we made an analysis which served us later when we were developing our projects. We gave a preliminary presentation of our developing ideas in Ljubljana in order to establish the direction of different groups and their progress. The final review was in Rijeka, in December 2009, where all the projects were publicly compared and critically discussed. There were no winners, but a wide range of different ideas that the City Council can now use for the future management of the newly-acquired area

Analysis of land use change based on comparing municipal spatial acts between 2003 and 2010 in the case of municipalities of Gorenja vas - Poljane and Naklo

The thesis is based on surveying the changing of land use in the municipalities of Gorenja vas - Poljane and Naklo. In the theoretical part spatial legislation from year 1984 onwards is presented. We also describe the methodology and the problems we encountered when arranging and processing the data. After the presentation of the selected municipalities in the empirical part of the thesis we compare the data on the basic and detailed land use from the existing municipal land use plans with the data from the long-term and medium-term municipal plans of Gorenja vas - Poljane and Naklo for the period from 1986 to 2000. \ud Between the years 2003 and 2010, the amount of building land increased in the area of the municipality of Gorenja vas - Poljane, while in the area of the municipality of Naklo not only the amount of building land but also the amount of water land increased. The water land increased due to different way of determining water land. The results of the detailed land use show that in each settlement land use is changing differently. Somewhere the amounts of building and agricultural lands increase on account of the decline of forest land. In other settlements the amounts of building and forest lands increase because of the decline of agricultural areas. There is also a case of the increase of agricultural land on account of the decline of building land in one of the settlements.\u

Managerji HRM in njihove etične dileme

Douglas Renwick (2003) said that the personnel function plays the role of guardian of employeesʼ wellbeing, but on the other hand, he said that personnel managers also tamper with the wellbeing of employees. Looking at Renwickʼs theory through Ulrichʼs model of personnel managers as guardians of employeesʼ wellbeing, they play the role of strategic partners, managers of the changes and the role of the employees representatives. Gantz and Hayes (inPayne and Wayland, 1999) explicated a few fields where we can talk of ethical conflict while performing these roles: discrimination, psychological tests, anti-union behaviour, design of work flow, job insecurity, discipline, confidentiality, privacy, and firing because of technological redundancy. In this paper we explore the field of potential and real ethical conflicts of human resource managers. What are the most important values of human resources managers? In which areas do ethical conflicts occur? And how do they solve these conflicts on an everyday basis? We used questionnaires to gather data onthese issues. We found out that managers who are in leading positions sufferthe most, next are those who have had long tenure. In this situation ethical codes donʼt help much

Binding Modes of Quinuclidinium Esters to Butyrylcholinesterase

The orientations of chiral quinuclidin-3-ol esters and benzoylcholine in the active site of horse butyrylcholinesterase have been investigated by flexible ligand docking. Change of the esters\u27 acyl moiety as well as the substituent at the quinuclidinium nitrogen atom affected the activity and stereoselectivity of the biotransformations. Analysis of interactions in the active site revealed the most important binding pat-terns for enantiomers, which define their reactivity. Calculated Gibbs energies of binding obtained by mo-lecular docking simulations were well correlated to the experimentally determined binding affinities of the investigated chiral esters. Racemates as well as (R)- and (S)-enantiomers of 3-pivalamidoquinuclidine (PivQ) and 3-acetamidoquinuclidine (AcQ) were prepared. Their quaternary racemic and enantiomerically pure N-benzyl derivatives (BnlPivQ and BnlAcQ) were synthesized as well. The amides were tested as substrates and inhibitors of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) from horse serum (EC 3.1.1.8). No hydrolysis was observed under the experimental conditions applied. On the contrary, inhibition of BChE by (R)- and (S)-enantiomers of N-benzylquinuclidinium amides of pivalic acid was observed. The (S)-BnlPivQ with Ki = 41.57 µmol dm–3 was 3-fold more potent inhibitor than the (R)-enantiomer. On the other hand, preliminary results indicated that both enantiomers of N-benzylquinuclidinum amides of acetic acid may possibly be inhibitors as well as activators depending on the concentrations of benzoylcholine (BzCh) used as a substrate of BChE
