The purpose of this study is to determine the living natural resources utilizing the U.S. Navy\u27s dredged material disposal area located adjacent to Willoughby Bay in Norfolk, Virginia and to determine the habitat value of this area to these resources

Magnificent Distance: Five Site-Specific Installations Washington DC 2012

    Get PDF
5x5, Washington DC’s inaugural public art festival, was conceived as a flagship biennial in which five curators would each be invited to curate new site-specific artworks by five artists – leading to the simultaneous installation of twenty-five artworks across Washington DC. The primary research question explored in the curation of the five Magnificent Distance artworks was the slippage between the symbolic DC of the worldwide public imagination and the ‘domestic’, human DC with its complex histories and communities. Many of the exhibition sites, selected as part of my curatorial role, were at the interstices of these two DC realities – at the meeting point between federal and community environments, in locations undergoing transformation from one use to another, and at points where differing scales of architecture meet

Motivational contagion in a leader-follower dynamic

    Get PDF
Motivational contagion is a process where one individual’s intentions are adopted by others (Dragoni & Kuenzi, 2012). Leaders enact motivational contagion when they share their goal orientations with followers. The present work proposes applying motivational contagion to a leader-follower dynamic to identify how it occurs and if substitutes/neutralizers to leadership reduce the rates of motivational contagion. Data from 300 followers will be collected using MTurk. It is hypothesized that motivational contagion occurs because leaders behaviorally establish and reinforce a desired climate that signals similar goal orientations in followers. The presence of substitutes/neutralizers to leadership are hypothesized to reduce the rates of motivational contagion. A potential theoretical implication of this research is a fuller explicative understanding of motivational contagion’s process between leaders and followers. A potential practical implication is behavioral guidance for leaders to share a desired goal orientation with followers for stronger work group effectiveness

Experimental and theoretical study of instantaneous piston assembly friction in a gasoline engine

ABSTRACT A piston assembly friction model has been developed to predict the individual performance of compression rings, the oil control ring and the piston skirt. Validation of this model has been undertaken by comparing the predicted results with the experimental measurements of piston assembly friction in a gasoline engine under fired conditions using the IMEP (indicated mean effective pressure) method. The experimental results for an SAE 0W20 without friction modifier were compared with the predictions. The predicted results correlate very well with the measurements, especially at higher lubricant inlet temperatures. Piston skirt friction was predicted using both a simple concentric piston / cylinder model and a more realistic but computationally intensive method incorporating piston secondary motion. The results clearly indicate that the latter more realistic method is required to achieve satisfactory correlation with the measured data
