An Appraisal of Gravity Model for Kurundwad Town and Its Surrounding Villages in Kolhapur District (Maharashtra: India)

    Get PDF
The theory of gravity was introduced by Issac Newton in 1686. Newton postulated that the gravitational force, which acts between two bodies in space, was directly proportion to the mass of the two bodies and inversely proportion to the square of the distance between the bodies. It was second half of the 19th Century that the theory of gravity was applied to human interaction. The gravity model is aimed at formalising, studying and predicting geography of flows or interactions. The model has first been formulated in analogy with Newton’s law of universal gravitation: two objects attract each other directly proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the distance separating them. For decades, social scientists have also been using a modified version of Isaac Newton's Law of Gravitation to predict movement of people, information, and commodities between cities and even continents. The gravity model, as social scientists refer to the modified law of gravitation, takes into account the population size of two places and their distance. Since larger settlements attract people, ideas, and commodities more than smaller settlements and places closer together have a greater attraction. An application of the gravity model at the local level helps to examine the interaction between Kurundwad town and its surrounding villages. The magnitude of social interaction and the flow analysis indicate the degree of centrality of town. For the flow analysis two main criteria undertaken are city bus frequencies and Newspaper circulation. The present paper, therefore, mainly focused on how this gravity model works at local level and also in context with development planning of urban centers to mitigate the increasing pressure of population. Key words- Gravity model, applicability, reliability, social interaction, interaction magnitude

In this paper we focus on the collaborative data publishing. With this paper we present the collaborative data in anonymized form. We solve the problem of insider attack i.e. possibility of attack by the data providers themselves. Standard algorithms are used for encryption (RSA).The anonymization is performed by displaying only the needed data as per the constraints specified. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.15029

Role of fine needle aspiration cytology in diagnosis of breast lumps

    Get PDF
Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Fine needle aspiration cytology is a cost effective, easy procedure in the diagnosis of breast lump. Methods: This was a one year retrospective study between January 2016 and December 2016. Needle aspiration was done in 100 patients presenting with breast lump. Histopathology correlation was done in 33 cases. Results: Fibroadenoma were most common lesions. Malignancy was reported in 13 cases. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy were found to be 85%, 100%, 100%, 96.3% and 97% respectively. Conclusions: Fine needle aspiration cytology is a simple, easy, OPD based, cost effective procedure with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in diagnosis of breast lumps

Intra-parotid facial nerve schwannoma: case report of a rare entity

    Get PDF
Intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma was first reported by Ibarz in 1927. The frequency of intra-parotid schwannomas range from 0.2% to 1.5%. Facial nerve schwannoma can occur at any point along its course from the cerebello-pontine angle to its peripheral branches. Its typical presentation is a slow growing, painless mass mimicking a pleomorphic adenoma. Because of its low prevalence and very few clinical and radiological signs associated with it, pre-operative diagnosis of intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma is generally difficult. There is great potential of misdiagnosis and mismanagement when detected intra-operatively with the worst consequences of facial nerve palsy. In this case a 58 years old male had a parotid mass with a prolonged history of sixteen years with sudden increase in size. Preoperative work up of imaging modalities and fine needle aspiration cytology was not conclusive. Intraoperatively mass couldn’t be separated from the facial nerve, so total parotidectomy for the tumor with transection of facial nerve was done resulting in postoperative facial nerve paralysis. The diagnosis of schwannoma was offered only after histopathological examination. Parotid nerve schwannomas are extremely rare and routine investigations are not very helpful in diagnosis. Whenever a facial nerve is seen involved by a clinically benign appearing lesion, intraparotid schwannoma should be thought of as a diagnostic possibility to avoid radical surgery and prevent complications like facial nerve palsy.

Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    Get PDF
