    Visualisation of an entangled channel spin-1 system

    Co-variance matrix formalism gives powerful entanglement criteria for continuous as well as finite dimensional systems. We use this formalism to study a mixed channel spin-1 system which is well known in nuclear reactions. A spin-j state can be visualized as being made up of 2j spinors which are represented by a constellation of 2j points on a Bloch sphere using Majorana construction. We extend this formalism to visualize an entangled mixed spin-1 system.Comment: 4 pages,4 figure

    FLAGCAL:A flagging and calibration package for radio interferometric data

    We describe a flagging and calibration pipeline intended for making quick look images from GMRT data. The package identifies and flags corrupted visibilities, computes calibration solutions and interpolates these onto the target source. These flagged calibrated visibilities can be directly imaged using any standard imaging package. The plain bearings, used in the automobile , aircraft and other engineering industries, consist of two surfaces, the shaft and the hearing, generally separated by a film of lubricant. The so-called bear- ing alloys utilised for the purpose have to satisfy some primary requirements such as suitable chemical make up giving rise to a hard constituent embedded in a soft matrix , and a certain range of physical ( melting point , density, thermal conductivity, etc.) and mechanical (hardness , modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, impact resistance and age-hardening characteristics) properties.     Geomagnetic storm effects on GPS based navigation

    The energetic events on the sun, solar wind and subsequent effects on the Earth's geomagnetic field and upper atmosphere (ionosphere) comprise space weather. Modern navigation systems that use radio-wave signals, reflecting from or propagating through the ionosphere as a means of determining range or distance, are vulnerable to a variety of effects that can degrade the performance of the navigational systems. In particular, the Global Positioning System (GPS) that uses a constellation of earth orbiting satellites are affected due to the space weather phenomena. <br><br> Studies made during two successive geomagnetic storms that occurred during the period from 8 to 12 November 2004, have clearly revealed the adverse affects on the GPS range delay as inferred from the Total Electron Content (TEC) measurements made from a chain of seven dual frequency GPS receivers installed in the Indian sector. Significant increases in TEC at the Equatorial Ionization anomaly crest region are observed, resulting in increased range delay during the periods of the storm activity. Further, the storm time rapid changes occurring in TEC resulted in a number of phase slips in the GPS signal compared to those on quiet days. These phase slips often result in the loss of lock of the GPS receivers, similar to those that occur during strong(>10 dB) L-band scintillation events, adversely affecting the GPS based navigation

    Application of Firefly Algorithm for Combined Economic Load and Emission Dispatch

    This paper presents an application of Firefly algorithm for multi-objective optimization problem in power system. By economic load scheduling the generations of different plants can be determined such that the total operating cost is minimum. Considering the environmental impacts that grow from the emissions produced by fossil fuelled power plant, the economic dispatch that minimizes only the total fuel cost can no longer be considered as single objective. Application of Firefly algorithm in this paper is based on mathematical modelling to solve combined economic and emissions dispatch problems by a single equivalent objective function. Firefly algorithm has been applied to two realistic systems at different load conditions. Results obtained with proposed method are compared with other techniques presented in literature. Firefly algorithm is easy to implement and much superior to other algorithms in terms of accuracy and efficiency

    Recent Progress Made in the Development of High-Energy UV Transmitter

    In this paper, the status of an all-solid-state UV converter development for ozone sensing applications is discussed. A high energy Nd:YAG laser for pumping the UV converter arrangement was recently reported. The pump is an all-solid-state, single longitudinal mode, and conductively cooled Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm wavelength. Currently, this pump laser provides an output pulse energy of greater than 1J/pulse at 50 Hz PRF and a pulsewidth of 22 ns with an electrical-to-optical system efficiency of greater than 7% and a M(sup 2) value of approx. 2. The spatial profile of the output beam is a rectangular super Gaussian. This Nd:YAG pump laser has been developed to pump the nonlinear optics based UV converter arrangement to generate 320 nm and 308 nm wavelengths by means of 532 nm wavelength. Previously, this UV converter arrangement has demonstrated IR-to-UV conversion efficiency of 24% using a flash lamp pumped laser providing a round, flat top spatial profile. Recently, the UV converter was assembled and tested at NASA LaRC for pumping with the diode pumped Nd:YAG laser. With current spatial profile, the UV converter was made operational. Current efforts to maximize the nonlinear conversion efficiency by refining its spatial profile to match RISTRA OPO requirements are progressing

    Elliptic flow in proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV

    The angular correlations measured in proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV are decomposed into contributions from back to back emission and elliptic flow. Modeling the dominant term in the correlation functions as a momentum conservation effect or as an effect of the initial transverse velocity of the source, the remaining elliptic flow component can be estimated. The elliptic flow coefficient extracted from the CMS Collaboration data is 0.04-0.08. No additional small-angle, ridge-like correlations are needed to explain the experimental data
