Production of good quality hay or silage and its proper storage without loss of the nutritive value is an important problem for dairy farmers. They are particularly interested in meeting the energy needs in feeding their herds for milk production. During the past decade there has been a substantial increase in the volume and intensity of research towards the nutritional and calorimetric aspects of cattle feeds. A number of unavoidable problems come in the way of their application causing financial disaster in today’s competitive economy of dairy farming. To increase milk production or to maintain a high level of production, dairy cattle must be provided with high quality forages, but large losses in their feeding value may occur due to problems in cutting, curing, weather conditions and improper storage. It is quite beneficial to store well cured hay in good condition without any loss of nutrients. To cost involved in providing proper storage space for forage required yearly for a large herd of cows in limiting factor, however, on many farms. In common practice hay fed to dairy cows is sometimes stacked outdoors. Such storage exposes hay to weather condition allowing a series of changes which deteriorate the nutritional value of the forage. This hay demands less price in comparison to hay stored under protected sheds. Devaluation of such alfalfa hay is primarily concerned with bleaching, browning and molding effects during storage Previous workers (McCampbell, 1919, Dodd, 1933) noticed equal body weight gains in steers by feeding normal and browned alfalfa hay, but 25% less gain has been observed with black alfalfa hay feeding. In general, clean brown alfalfa hay is very rarely found from outdoor hay stacks. Mostly mold growth is associated with such storage. No appreciable research has been conducted concerning the effect of molding on the nutritive value of alfalfa hay or silage. This is not only a problem in the United States of America, but is common to the farmers of most countries where extensive dairying is practiced. An attempt has been made in this research to investigate the feeding value of alfalfa hay stored outdoors associated with browning, bleaching and molding. It was also desirable to compare this feeding value with normal well cured alfalfa hay and low moisture alfalfa silage. Previous research at South Dakota State University indicated that when dairy cattle were fed only alfalfa haylage, they consumed abnormally large amount of dicalcium phosphate. This research was designed to obtain more information concerning such mineral problems

Efficient embedding of virtual hypercubes in irregular WDM optical networks

This thesis addresses one of the important issues in designing future WDM optical networks. Such networks are expected to employ an all-optical control plane for dissemination of network state information. It has recently been suggested that an efficient control plane will require non-blocking communication infrastructure and routing techniques. However, the irregular nature of most WDM networks does not lend itself to efficient non-blocking communications. It has been recently shown that hypercubes offer some very efficient non-blocking solutions for, all-to-all broadcast operations, which would be very attractive for control plane implementation. Such results can be utilized by embedding virtual structures in the physical network and doing the routing using properties of a virtual architecture. We will emphasize the hypercube due to its proven usefulness. In this thesis we propose three efficient heuristic methods for embedding a virtual hypercube in an irregular host network such that each node in the host network is either a hypercube node or a neighbor of a hypercube node. The latter will be called a “satellite” or “secondary” node. These schemes follow a step-by-step procedure for the embedding and for finding the physical path implementation of the virtual links while attempting to optimize certain metrics such as the number of wavelengths on each link and the average length of virtual link mappings. We have designed software that takes the adjacency list of an irregular topology as input and provides the adjacency list of a hypercube embedded in the original network. We executed this software on a number of irregular networks with different connectivities and compared the behavior of each of the three algorithms. The algorithms are compared with respect to their performance in trying to optimize several metrics. We also compare our algorithms to an already existing algorithm in the literature

Background: Infertility is agonising condition. Tuberculosis is an important health problem worldwide. One third of the world’s population is currently affected with tuberculosis. Hysterolaparoscopy is a well-recognized procedure for the diagnosis of infertility. Culture for TB bacilli is the gold standard for diagnosis of genital TB.Methods: Infertile women undergoing dilatation and curettage with hysterolaparoscopy with normal husband semen analysis as a part of their infertility workup at M. G. M. Medical Hospital, Kalamboli. Sample size: 30.Results: Incidence of GTB=22.85%, 25-29 year followed by 35-40 years’ age group was the most common age group was observed. In our study, 74.3% infertility pattern was primary, 25.7% were secondary only 2.85 % (n =1) of the cases of GTB were diagnosed by using TB BACTEC. Laparoscopic findings su0ggested that 18 cases had normal findings and 8 cases had laparoscopic features suggestive of GTB. On chromo pertubation, delayed and absent spillage of the dye was seen in 2 cases. On Hysteroscopy, 29 cases (82.9%) of the patients had normal findings and 3 cases had Hysteroscopic features suggestive of GTB.Conclusions: Genital tuberculosis remains an important under diagnosed cause of infertility. Though culture is considered as gold standard for diagnosis of genital tuberculosis, since GTB is paucibacillary there is an urgent need for more research to come to conclusion whether culture is still gold standard. Further research is required to detect the most sensitive method for diagnosis

Extended Fault Taxonomy of SOA-Based Systems

    Get PDF
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is considered as a standard for enterprise software development. The main characteristics of SOA are dynamic discovery and composition of software services in a heterogeneous environment. These properties pose newer challenges in fault management of SOA-based systems (SBS). A proper understanding of different faults in an SBS is very necessary for effective fault handling. A comprehensive three-fold fault taxonomy is presented here that covers distributed, SOA specific and non-functional faults in a holistic manner. A comprehensive fault taxonomy is a key starting point for providing techniques and methods for accessing the quality of a given system. In this paper, an attempt has been made to outline several SBSs faults into a well-structured taxonomy that may assist developers to plan suitable fault repairing strategies. Some commonly emphasized fault recovery strategies are also discussed. Some challenges that may occur during fault handling of SBSs are also mentioned

Objective: Curcumine (CUR) and rapamycin (RAPA) are two potent hydrophobic anticancer drugs. The clinical and preclinical applications of anticancer formulations are limited due to use of toxic excipients and poor bioavailability. In the present study, an approach has been made to develop CUR and RAPA loaded MePEG/PCL di-block copolymeric micelles keeping in the view to make excipient free formulation with slow release of drugs. Methods: The CUR and RAPA loaded MePEG/PCL di-block copolymeric micelles were prepared. Physico-chemical characters like size, surface charge and encapsulation efficiency were measured. The in vitro release studies was carried out in pH 7.4 to evaluate the sustained release properties of micelles. Results: MePEG/PCL di-block copolymeric micelles were efficiently encapsulate both the drugs, i. e. CUR (~ 64 %) and RAPA (~ 94 %) in the core and have loading capacity of ~ 12 % (CUR) and ~ 29 % (RAPA). The zetasizer measurement shows that particles have size range 128 nm to 176 nm with a negative zeta potential. SEM and AFM studies reveled that micelles have smooth exterior surface. The XRD and DSC studies explain that the drugs are uniformly distributed in the polymer matrix. The dual drug loaded micelles have sustained in vitro drug release activity as estimated in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4). Conclusion: These MePEG/PCL di-block copolymeric micelles are capable of carrying both the hydrophobic anticancer drugs and the encouraging results suggest further studies to evaluate the bioavailability parameters as well as suitability of the formulation
