A Gestalt Theory for ‘Disorder’: From Arnheim’s Ordered Chaos to Brambilla’s Entropic Art
The article revisits the concept of entropy in art as discussed by Gestalt psychologist and art theorist Rudolf Arnheim. His discussion of artworks and their reception as complex dynamic fields where the forces of entropy and orderliness counter and complete each other, are brought into dialogue with newer approaches, from the perspective of complexity theory and neuroscience, to the dynamics of perception and to entropic processes in the brain. I will argue that even though Arnheim’s observations can still be valuable for contemporary art criticism they need to be updated as they tend to overstate the tendency for order as well as the visual aspects of reception in the expense of multimodal and embodied aspects. In light of these observations, I will discuss contemporary cases of ‘entropic’ art through the moving image works of Marco Brambilla, their aesthetics as well as the ‘structural themes’ arising and the Gestalt processes involved in their reception

Prospective Mathematics Teachers' Emotions and Identity
This article presents an in-depth study illuminating prospective teachers’ (PTs) emotions and identity in their development of becoming mathematics teachers. The participants study at a general teacher education programme and have chosen to specialise in mathematics. The theoretical framework in this study is based on Ricoeur’s (1992) and Nussbaum’s (2001) theories on identity and emotion. The main argument for using this framework is the link between ethics, eudaimonia, value judgment, emotions and identity. These terms are closely related with the question of a person’s well-being and flourishing. Through this framework, this study tries to make an innovative approach in the field of mathematics education. The findings indicated an emerging identity towards a reform mathematics teacher when analysing the participants' emotions, well-being and their flourishing.publishedVersio

Zircon U-Pb chronostratigraphy and provenance of the Cycladic Basement and CBU on Sikinos and Ios Islands, Greece
Sikinos and Ios Islands, located in the Southern Cyclades of the Aegean, are part of a Cenozoic metamorphic core complex system that exposes subduction-related rocks in the highly-extended back-arc region of the Hellenic subduction zone. The HP-LT metamorphic units exposed on the Islands are the Mesozoic metasedimentary rocks of the Cycladic Blueschist Unit (CBU) and Paleozoic ortho- and paragneisses of the Crystalline Basement Unit. While these units appear to share a common subduction metamorphic history, the magmatic and stratigraphic evolution of these two units and their relationship remain poorly understood. In particular, the nature of the contact between the CBU and Basement has been variably described as either an extensional shear zone or a subduction-related thrust that was potentially reactivated as an extensional top-to-the-north detachment. This study employed zircon U-Pb geochronometry on 59 samples to constrain (1) the crystallization ages of the Cycladic Basement on Sikinos Island, (2) the Maximum Deposition Ages (MDA) and the detrital provenance of the metasedimentary units. These new data allow to establish of a (chrono-) stratigraphic framework for the CBU and Cycladic Basement, elucidate the nature of the contact, and shed light on the subduction processes and pre-subduction paleogeography. The results reveal that (1) the Basement is composed of early Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks intruded by Carboniferous granites, (2) the Cycladic Basement is unconformably overlain by Permian and Mesozoic metasedimentary rocks of the CBU, (3) the CBU stratigraphy is clarified and its deposition spans from Permo-Triassic to Late Cretaceous times. This chronostratigraphic framework is also supported by the detrital zircon provenance U-Pb record that provides an additional stratigraphic fingerprint. These relationships in southern Sikinos demonstrate a nearly continuous stratigraphic record from the Cycladic Basement into the CBU and argue for a depositional contact and against both a subduction or extension-related structural juxtaposition of the CBU and the Cycladic Basement. On the other hand, the same stratigraphic constraints exhibit clear old-over-young relationships in NE Sikinos and Ios Islands, supporting structural repetition by thrust imbrication of the CBU slivers as a result of underplating during subduction in the Paleogene.Geological Science

New air travel opportunities for Ceuta, a Spanish remoter region in Northern Africa, generated by air transport liberalisation in neighbouring Morocco. Spatial discontinuity and lack of seamless transport connections between Ceuta and the Spanish mainland pose significant accessibility challenges for the Spanish exclave
Quality of life of Arabic-speaking refugees in Greece. The case of Elaionas camp.
Introduction: The global refugee crisis has affected disproportionately people in the Middle East. Eventually this situation has left stranded tens of thousands of people in Greece awaiting for asylum approvals, relocation or repatriation decisions. Conditions prevalent at the journey and at refugee camps are degenerating physical and mental health. A plethora of research in public health is using self-reported Quality of Life indicators to assess the impact of social determinants on health (SDOH). The aim of this study is to explore and assess the quality of life of Arab-speaking refugees residing in Greece in several settings, such as refugee camps and urban settings, so as to compare these results.
Methods: This project is focusing on the second largest camp in Attica- Greece, namely Elaionas, hosting approximately 1500 refugees. Data were collected with WHO’s Quality of Life (WHOQOL-Bref) questionnaire and compared to corresponding surveys using the same tool and their results, at the same population, in other settings, in order to provide a framework for interpretation and commentary on our findings.
Results: We found that average score on the WHOQOL four domains –physical, psychological, social, environment- is generally low, however, in Elaionas camp is higher than in other camps at the region, even from urban settings. In particular, refugees in Elaionas have higher scores in physical, psychological and environmental domains, as compared to a sample of refugees from Skaramagas camp and City Plaza Hotel. Social domain did not appear to have significant differences between the population living in the above settings. Score differences amongst domains, ranged from small to large, with most domains appearing a moderate impact.
Conclusion: In our quest to interpret the differences in scores, we managed to distinguish certain conditions and practices that appeared at the camp of Elaionas, which could potentially explain the differences in scores and act as a linchpin for facilitating the integration of the population. These findings could be helpful in case of policy making, as it seems that collaborative, interdisciplinary training approaches can better prepare health care professionals. Robust health care models that take into consideration population perceptions of quality of life aspects may be better equipped to address social determinants of health, and thus have more potential to reduce refugee populations’ health inequities and promoting integration
In March 2020 humanity has to deal with a new pandemia due to a coronavirus called COVID-19. This virus is extremely contagious and mainly affects the respiratory tract system. The majority of patients shows symptoms of the upper respiratory tract. However, one fifth of patients progresses in severe illness with infection of the lower respiratory system. Αcute respiratory distress syndrome up to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and death can occur. The treatment depends on the clinical picture of the patient and is basically supportive. The majority of patients will recover, leaving sometimes problems in various systems. As it was expected, interest has been given to the development of effective vaccines. So far 12.4 billion people have been vaccinated worldwide, significantly reducing severe disease.
Within this population we have the category of athletes. The athletes display the so-called athlete’s heart, i.e. functional and morphological remodeling of the heart due to adaptation to training. Specific characteristics often emerge in diagnostic examinations (such as the electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, etc) during the pre-participation screening.
The infection of the cardiovascular system due to SARS-CoV-2 or after vaccination against the virus in combination with the uncertainty of the outcomes with the resumption of training led to the creation of recommendations regarding the safe return of athletes to exercise. Depending the existence of symptoms and the underlying pathology, it is recommended whether or not to screen the athlete before resuming exercise. The screening starts with simple diagnostic tests, such as the electrocardiogram, the measurement of cardiac indicators and the echocardiogram, and is enriched with more specialized according to conditions. In this way, any adverse outcomes concerning the safe return to sport activities are limited
