    Thermocouple installation

    Get PDF
A thermocouple assembly which includes a plug having a pair of small diameter holes near one end thereof which are spaced a small distance apart to leave a thin quantity of plug material between the holes is presented. There are a pair of thermocouple wires extending through the different holes and with the outer ends of the wires joined to the thin quantity of plug material which lies between the holes to form a thermocouple junction

    Radial honeycomb core

Core alleviates many limitations of conventional nacelle construction methods. Radical core, made of metals or nonmetals, is fabricated either by joining nodes and then expanding, or by performing each layer and then joining nodes. Core may also be produced from ribbons or strips with joined nodes or ribbons oriented in longitudinal planes

The role of freestream turbulence scale in subsonic flow separation

    Get PDF
The ojective of this work is the clarification of the role of freestream turbulence scale in determining the location of boundary layer separation. An airfoil in subsonic wind tunnel flow is the specific case studied. Hot-film and hot-wire anemometry, liquid-film visualization and pressure measurements are the principal diagnostic techniques in use. The Vanderbilt University subsonic wind tunnel is the flow facility being used

The role of freestream turbulence scale in subsonic flow separation

    Get PDF
The clarification of the role of freestream turbulence scale in determining the location of boundary layer separation is discussed. Modifications to the test facility were completed. Wind tunnel flow characteristics, including turbulence parameters, were determined with two turbulence generating grids, as well as no grid. These results are summarized. Initial results on the role of scale on turbulent boundary layer separation on the upper surface of an airfoil model are also discussed

Specific Enhancement of Transplantation Immunity with Heat-killed Mycobacterium Butyricum and Immunizing Extracts from Adenovirus 12-Induced Tumour Cells

    Get PDF
Transplant immunity to adenovirus 12-induced tumour cells was demonstrated in CBA mice which had been previously immunized with extracts of homologous tumour cells. Immunization of mice with tumour cell extract together with heat-killed Mycobacterium butyricum gave better transplant immunity to tumour cell challenge than tumour extracts alone. Mice immunized with Mycobacterium butyricum alone prior to challenge with tumour cells, did not show any significant difference in the incidence of tumours from control mice

Using AI/expert system technology to automate planning and replanning for the HST servicing missions

    Get PDF
This paper describes a knowledge-based system that has been developed to automate planning and scheduling for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Servicing Missions. This new system is the Servicing Mission Planning and Replanning Tool (SM/PART). SM/PART has been delivered to the HST Flight Operations Team (FOT) at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) where it is being used to build integrated time lines and command plans to control the activities of the HST, Shuttle, Crew and ground systems for the next HST Servicing Mission. SM/PART reuses and extends AI/expert system technology from Interactive Experimenter Planning System (IEPS) systems to build or rebuild time lines and command plans more rapidly than was possible for previous missions where they were built manually. This capability provides an important safety factor for the HST, Shuttle and Crew in case unexpected events occur during the mission
