Ricorrenze olfattive nel Trionfo della morte di Gabriele d'Annunzio
In literature, one finds that, like the gustatory trace of Proustian memory, even the olfactory trace can assume– especially in the late-Romantic, symbolist and post-symbolist area – a significant weight both in theconstruction of atmospheres and portraits and in the remembrance of past situations, to the point of constitutinga leitmotif of the mnestic activity and path. The construction of an odorous score in the Trionfo della morte(1894) participates in the "symphonic" writing explicitly attempted by the author of this novel, so that therepetition of certain aromatic 'notes', through the cadences of a kind of refrain, emphasizes in the narrativeflow salient moments for the psychological construction of the characters and for the direction of the reader'sreception. From the leitmotif of the perfumes of violet and incense as "memorable signs" ("signes mémoratifs",Corbin 1982) – capable of triggering backward narratives and mimicking the recursiveness of thought in thevibrating, inflamed psychology of the male character narrated in the third person – to the floral and bodilyperfumes as seductive signals of the beloved woman, to which the "umano lezzo" is aristocratically opposed,an olfactory map is outlined that finds references within d'Annunzio's work, as well as, inter-textually, withauthors of a similar aesthetic range (Baudelaire, Wilde, Proust)

A Statistical Study of IRIS Observational Signatures of Nanoflares and Non-thermal Particles
Nanoflares are regarded as one of the major mechanisms of magnetic energy
release and coronal heating in the solar outer atmosphere. We conduct a
statistical study on the response of the chromosphere and transition region to
nanoflares, as observed by the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS), by
using an algorithm for the automatic detection of these events. The initial
atmospheric response to these small heating events is observed, with IRIS, as
transient brightening at the footpoints of coronal loops heated to high
temperatures (>4 MK). For four active regions, observed over 143 hours, we
detected 1082 footpoint brightenings under the IRIS slit, and for those we
extracted physical parameters from the IRIS Mg II and Si IV spectra that are
formed in the chromosphere and transition region, respectively. We investigate
the distribution of the spectral parameters, and the relationship between the
parameters, also comparing them with predictions from RADYN numerical
simulations of nanoflare-heated loops. We find that these events, and the
presence of non-thermal particles, tend to be more frequent in flare productive
active regions, and where the hot Atmospheric Imaging Assembly 94 \AA\ emission
is higher. We find evidence for highly dynamic motions characterized by strong
Si IV non-thermal velocity (not dependent on the heliocentric x coordinate,
i.e., on the angle between the magnetic field and the line-of-sight) and
asymmetric Mg II spectra. These findings provide tight new constraints on the
properties of nanoflares, and non-thermal particles, in active regions, and
their effects on the lower atmosphere.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, Accepted to Ap
Evaluación de la calidad de pan obtenido con harina de pituca (Colocasia esculenta L.)
The impact of pituca flour (Colocasia esculenta L.) content on the physicochemical properties and acceptability of Chachapoyan-type bread was examined. The bread formulation involved the substitution of wheat flour with pituca flour at 15/85, 20/80 and 25/75 and a control group 0/100 pituca flour/wheat flour (PF/WF). Physicochemical, farinographic and alveographic analyses were performed on the different flour formulations, while the resulting bread was evaluated in terms of physicochemical properties and sensory quality, including aroma, color and texture. A complete randomized design (CRD) was used to obtain the chachapoyano bread with pituca flour. The comparison between treatments was made using Student's t-test at a significance of 0.05. In addition, a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) was used to evaluate the acceptability variable, using the Tukey test, with a significance level of 0.05. According to the farinographic results, pituca flour was classified as non-bakeable. However, in alveographic terms, the 15/85 flour blend showed close similarities to the control group, both in the flour and in the final bread.
Eucalyptus cinerea and E. nicholii by-Products as Source of Bioactive Compounds for Agricultural Applications
The cultivation of different species of Eucalyptus has recently expanded in Liguria (Italy) due to the growing demand of the North European floricultural market. Eucalyptus tree branches are cut and selected for their quality, resulting in large amounts of waste biomass to be disposed of. The aim of our study was to evaluate the phytotoxic and antimicrobial activities of essential oils (EOs) from pruning wastes of E. cinerea (EC) and E. nicholii (EN), for potential applications in agriculture. Phytochemical analyses showed eucalyptol (1,8-cineole) as the major component in both EOs, but the EO yield of EN was higher than that of EC, in agreement with a significantly higher oil gland density on EN leaves. EOs from both species showed phytotoxicity on both weeds tested, but no significant inhibition on horticultural crop seed germination, except for Raphanus sativus. The EO from EC showed the strongest antibacterial activity, while the EO from EN showed the strongest antifungal activity. Concluding, EOs from Eucalyptus pruning may be used as possible alternatives to synthetic herbicides and pesticides, acting as antimicrobial and antifungal agents, thus representing a safe strategy for crop management programs
Multi-wavelength observations and modeling of a microflare: constraining non-thermal particle acceleration
In this work we analyze a small B-class flare that occurred on 29 April 2021 and was observed simultaneously by the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) and the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) X-ray instrument. The IRIS observations of the ribbon of the flare show peculiar spectral characteristics that are typical signatures of energy deposition by non-thermal electrons in the lower atmosphere. The presence of the non-thermal particles is also confirmed directly by fitting the NuSTAR spectral observations. We show that, by combining IRIS and NuSTAR multi-wavelength observations from the corona to the lower atmosphere with hydrodynamic simulations using the RADYN code, we can provide strict constraints on electron-beam heated flare models. This work presents the first NuSTAR, IRIS and RADYN joint analysis of a non-thermal microflare, and presents a self-consistent picture of the flare-accelerated electrons in the corona and the chromospheric response to those electrons
