    Partitioning Edge-Colored Hypergraphs into Few Monochromatic Tight Cycles

    Confirming a conjecture of Gy´arf´as, we prove that, for all natural numbers k and r, the vertices of every r-edge-colored complete k-uniform hypergraph can be partitioned into a bounded number (independent of the size of the hypergraph) of monochromatic tight cycles. We further prove that, for all natural numbers p and r, the vertices of every r-edge-colored complete graph can be partitioned into a bounded number of pth powers of cycles, settling a problem of Elekes, Soukup, Soukup, and Szentmikl´ossy [Discrete Math., 340 (2017), pp. 2053–2069]. In fact we prove a common generalization of both theorems which further extends these results to all host hypergraphs of bounded independence number

    Background. There is currently no gold standard for functional assessment of nerve regeneration. Different researchers use various methods to assess the functionality of the regenerated nerve directly and indirectly. Indirect methods have the advantage of being minimally invasive, and the benefit of direct methods is recording the signal directly in the nerve.Objectives. To identify significant parameters of neurogram changes in the sciatic nerve in an anaesthetized rat when the anode block is applied and to evaluate neurography as a method for functional assessment of nerve regeneration.Methods. A series of experiments was performed on 10 anaesthetized rats. A DC anode was placed on the exposed sciatic nerve, more proximal and more distal to the recording electrodes, and a common cathode in the form of a needle was introduced into one of the forelimbs. Needle nichrome electrodes were introduced into the nerve using a manipulator. An original neurogram and a neurogram against anode activation were recorded by closing the DC circuit of different voltages to block the afferent signal, efferent signal and afferent and efferent signals simultaneously.Results. When the anodal block of different voltages was applied to the afferent signal, efferent signal, and afferent and efferent signals simultaneously in all 10 experiments, the frequency-amplitude characteristics of the neurogram changed significantly as compared to the original neurogram. The amplitude of the neurogram increased considerably, while the frequency decreased, though not so dramatically. The changes in amplitude and frequency parameters were revealed to depend on the voltage value. In most cases, this relationship was directly proportional to the amplitude and inversely proportional to the frequency.Conclusion. Considering the nature of the dynamics of the neurogram when exposed to the anodal block, the most significant parameter of its change is the amplitude. Changes in nerve fibre composition during its regeneration after damage cause changes in afferent and efferent signals, which is likely to be displayed in the neurogram as compared to the initial state. Thus, the anodal block can be used as a model of nerve damage, and the analysis of the dynamics of neurogram parameters — as a method for functional assessment of nerve regeneration

    Combination therapy for benign prostate hyperplasia-related urinary symptoms

    Introduction. Non-neurogenic lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are a serious polyetiologic problem in the male population. The side effects of the medication agents used to treat LUTS significantly reduce treatment compliance. According to the literature data, the frequency of refusal for the proposed treatment during the year varies from 20 to 80%. Several studies have shown the benefits of herbal medicine for LUTS concerning the fewer side effects and increased adherence to treatment. However, to obtain a high-level recommendation base, clinical trials are required.Purpose of the study. To evaluate the effectiveness of Gardaprost® in LUTS combination therapy.Materials and methods. The study included 57 men aged 60 – 70 years with diagnosed medium- or large-volume benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and moderate-to-severe LUTS according to I-PSS, morphologically excluded prostate cancer, without urinary infection signs. The patients were randomized into two follow-up groups. Tamsulosin 0.4 mg q.d. was prescribed to patients in the control group. Patients of the main group received Gardaprost® 0.4 mg q.d. in addition to Tamsulosin. The follow-up period in both groups was one-year. The statistical analysis includes data from 56 men. To evaluate therapy at the screening visit and on days 180 and 360, I-PSS, urination diary, IIEF-5, urinalysis, prostate-specific antigen, uroflowmetry, ultrasound were analyzed. Paired t-test and one-way ANOVA test were used to determine intergroup differences in normally distributed variables. For variables with a distribution other than normal, Friedman's two-way ANOVA for related samples was used. Events with a probability greater than 95% were considered statistically significant.Results. At the time of inclusion in the study, the groups were comparable concerning the control parameters. In the main group, there was a more pronounced positive dynamics in the I-PSS score, maximum urine flow rate, and post-void residual urine volume, which corresponded to 7.9 ± 2.1 points, 18.0 ± 7.3 ml/sec, 23.6 ± 13.6 ml vs 19.7 ± 7.2 points, 10 ± 3.5 ml/sec, 65.9 ± 33.2 ml in the main and control groups, respectively (p < 0.001). Additionally, in the main observation group, a decrease in prostate volume was recorded by 18.8% (p < 0.001) was recorded.Conclusion. We have obtained encouraging long-term results from the use of Gardaprost® in combination therapy of moderate-to-severe LUTS caused by medium- and large-volume BPH

    This paper is about a way of correction of endothelial dysfunction with the inhibitor of arginase: L-norvaline. There is an imbalance between vasoconstriction and vasodilatation factors of endothelium on the basis of endothelial dysfunction. Among vasodilatation agents, nitrogen oxide plays the basic role. Amino acid L-arginine serves as a source of molecules of nitrogen oxide in an organism. Because of the high activity of arginase enzyme which catalyzes the hydrolysis of L-arginine into ornithine and urea, the bioavailability of nitrogen oxide decreases. The inhibitors of arginase suppress the activity of the given enzyme, raising and production of nitrogen oxide, preventing the development of endothelial dysfunction

    Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data

    A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In addition, the polarisation of the electron beam was taken into account for the ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and axial-vector couplings of the Z boson to u- and d-type quarks, on the value of the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the W boson are presented. The values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.Comment: 32 pages, 10 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. D.     Limits on the effective quark radius from inclusive epep scattering at HERA

    The high-precision HERA data allows searches up to TeV scales for Beyond the Standard Model contributions to electron-quark scattering. Combined measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current epep scattering corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb1^{-1} have been used in this analysis. A new approach to the beyond the Standard Model analysis of the inclusive epep data is presented; simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions together with contributions of "new physics" processes were performed. Results are presented considering a finite radius of quarks within the quark form-factor model. The resulting 95% C.L. upper limit on the effective quark radius is 0.4310160.43\cdot 10^{-16} cm.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys. Lett.

    Measurement of the cross-section ratio sigma_{psi(2S)}/sigma_{J/psi(1S)} in deep inelastic exclusive ep scattering at HERA

    The exclusive deep inelastic electroproduction of ψ(2S)\psi(2S) and J/ψ(1S)J/\psi(1S) at an epep centre-of-mass energy of 317 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA in the kinematic range 2<Q2<802 < Q^2 < 80 GeV2^2, 30<W<21030 < W < 210 GeV and t<1|t| < 1 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the photon virtuality, WW is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and tt is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The data for 2<Q2<52 < Q^2 < 5 GeV2^2 were taken in the HERA I running period and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 114 pb1^{-1}. The data for 5<Q2<805 < Q^2 < 80 GeV2^2 are from both HERA I and HERA II periods and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 468 pb1^{-1}. The decay modes analysed were μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- and J/ψ(1S)π+πJ/\psi(1S) \,\pi^+\pi^- for the ψ(2S)\psi(2S) and μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- for the J/ψ(1S)J/\psi(1S). The cross-section ratio σψ(2S)/σJ/ψ(1S)\sigma_{\psi(2S)}/\sigma_{J/\psi(1S)} has been measured as a function of Q2,WQ^2, W and tt. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure
