Comparison of Reliability of the Eye Optic Disc Cup and Pallor Areas in Glaucoma Diagnostics

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to compare the glaucoma diagnostic reliability of two optic disc parameters: the relative cup area size determined by the Heidelberg retina tomography and the relative pallor area size determined by the proposed algorithm of the optic disc image analysis. Both parameters were measured for 240 normal healthy eyes and 240 glaucomatous eyes. The diagnostic reliability of studied parameters were compared using normalized distance d of their statistical distributions obtained for normal healthy and glaucomatous eyes and by comparison of area sizes under their ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) curves. The normalized distances were 2.19 or 1.73 and the area sizes under ROC curves were 0.95 or 0.89 for relative cup or pallor area size. Both considered relative parameters are significantly influenced by the glaucoma and can be used in its diagnostics. The designed pallor analysis is less diagnostic reliable than the analysis of the cup

Regarding the behavior of bison runners within the Bison algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a modification of the Bison Algorithm’s running technique, which allows the running group to exploit the areas of discovered promising solutions. It also provides a closer examination of the successful running behavior and its impact on the overall optimization process. The new algorithm is then compared to other optimization algorithms on the IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark solving continuous minimization problems. © 2018, Brno University of Technology. Behavioral Factors Affecting Reproduction in Domestic Horses: Sociobiological Approach

    Get PDF
Fetal loss is a common phenomenon in domestic horses, being usually highest (up to 40%) of all domestic ungulates. However, in all studies investigating this problem, sociobiological approach, such as conflict between the evolutionary interests of individuals of the two sexes, has been neglected. Here we summarize results of three consecutive studies considering infanticide as a male’s reproductive strategy and a mare’s counter strategies against it. When a mare was either artificially inseminated or removed from her home environment and transported elsewhere for mating and then returned back into her home environment, containing a stallion (and/or gelding) who did not sire her fetus, she got into a potentially infanticidal danger. She more likely disrupted her pregnancy than a mare living in an environment with the sire of her fetus. This was highly affected by the social environment. Lowest percentage of pregnancy disruption can be achieved when the pregnant mare was released into an enclosure shared with the non-sire male whom she can “convince” he is the father of her expected foal by promiscuous mating. The effects of social environment leading to pregnancy block and/or disruption may thus explain substantial part of the high incidence of domestic horse fetal loss

Converting PSO dynamics into complex network - Initial study

    Get PDF
In this paper it is presented the initial study on the possibility of capturing the inner dynamic of Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm into a complex network structure. Inspired in previous works there are two different approaches for creating the complex network presented in this paper. Visualizations of the networks are presented and commented. The possibilities for future applications of the proposed design are given in detail. © 2016 Author(s)

On the adaptivity and complexity embedded into differential evolution

    Get PDF
This research deals with the comparison of the two modern approaches for evolutionary algorithms, which are the adaptivity and complex chaotic dynamics. This paper aims on the investigations on the chaos-driven Differential Evolution (DE) concept. This paper is aimed at the embedding of discrete dissipative chaotic systems in the form of chaotic pseudo random number generators for the DE and comparing the influence to the performance with the state of the art adaptive representative jDE. This research is focused mainly on the possible disadvantages and advantages of both compared approaches. Repeated simulations for Lozi map driving chaotic systems were performed on the simple benchmark functions set, which are more close to the real optimization problems. Obtained results are compared with the canonical not-chaotic and not adaptive DE. Results show that with used simple test functions, the performance of ChaosDE is better in the most cases than jDE and Canonical DE, furthermore due to the unique sequencing in CPRNG given by the hidden chaotic dynamics, thus better and faster selection of unique individuals from population, ChaosDE is faster. © 2016 Author(s)
