A Mediterranean Dietary Pattern Is Associated with Greater Participation in Physical Activity and Better Health-Related Quality of Life among Students and Professors at the Melilla Campus (University of Granada)
The objective of this study was to assess Mediterranean diet (MD) scores (i.e., alignment with a MD pattern) among students and professors, in addition to assessing how adherence to the MD was associated with other lifestyle behaviors. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with a sample of 127 university professors and 272 students of the Melilla Campus at the University of Granada (Spain). Students were more physically active than professors (mean difference = 1058 METs, p < 0.001) and reported lower negative affect (NA; mean difference = −1.70, p < 0.001) whereas professors reported nominally better perceived mental health. For the total sample, the physical health component (β = 0.03, p = 0.03) and physical activity (β = 0.0001, p = 0.01) were significantly associated with higher MD scores. Health behaviors, including MD scores and physical activity, were suboptimal among both students and professors. The results suggest that a dietary pattern reflective of the MD is positively associated with both physical and mental health outcomes among students and professors, though the direction of the associations remains to be clarified
Oral supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids and inflammation markers in patients with chronic kidney disease in hemodialysis
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an increasingly common public health problem that increases the risk of death
because of cardiovascular complications by 2–3 times compared with the general population. This research concerns a prospective, randomized, double-blind study in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. The participants were assigned to 1 of
2 groups: the study group (group A; 46 patients) received 4 capsules (2.4 g) of omega-3 fatty acids daily during the 12-week
intervention, while patients in the control group (group B; 47 patients) received 4 capsules of paraffin oil. The patients’ general
characteristics, nutritional indicators, renal disease markers and inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, interleukin (IL)-6,
IL-10, and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-)) were evaluated. No differences were found between the general characteristics
of the patients (P < 0.05), and no differences were shown in the nutritional indicators and markers of kidney disease (P < 0.05).
Patients in group A showed significant decreases in levels of C-reactive protein, IL-6, TNF-, and the IL-10/IL-6 ratio after 12 weeks
of supplementation (P < 0.05). Patients in group B did not show any significant changes in concentrations of inflammatory
markers during the intervention (P < 0.05). In conclusion, oral supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids produces a significant
decrease in the concentrations of inflammation markers in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis.
University of Granad
An analysis of the Indian Hacienda Tax system administrated by the “Cajas Reales” (Royal Tills). From the study of its characteristics: treasury bureaucracy, contability methods and ways of controling, to the general overall view of the price that the spanish crown had to pay to maintain certain administration boards whose spendings were superior to the revenues.

y terminó por ser definitivamente abolido en 1830.This article analizes how a tax of medieval origin was not established in one of the
Spanish empire’s marginal areas until a date as late as 1725-33.
Similar to what happened in other indian territories, the establishment of this tax caused
important complaints from the people who considered it an excesive, unfair and discriminatory
tax meant aproximately 7% of the Treasury anual income, an importan quantity it
considering that between 50 and 60% were foreing incomes, the amount collected wasn’t
very strong because of the numerous irregularities comitted during the fiscal process.
The tribute was identified with the metropolitan domination and during the independence
process its abolition turned into a flag againts Spain, until its final abolition in 1830.Departamento de Historia Moderna y de América, Universidad de Granada

A demographic study” is
the result of research undertaken in the Parish Registers of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials between 1527, the date of the first preserved record of baptism, and 1599.
The political, religious, economic and cultural activities of Granada centred round this Principal Parish (Parroquia Mayor). The demographic consequences which resulted from
these special characteristics are those of atipicity. In addition, the almost total absence of Moors in the parish meant that its demographic evolution in the latter decades of the XVIth century was not one of decline but clearly of increase. Moreover, the social make-up of this population affected its evolution: together with the important, but small in number, aristocratic class, a great number of slaves who worked in the service of the latter, and a considerable number of tradesmen whose premises and workshops were centred round the silkmarket and the river.Departamento de Historia Moderna y de América, Universidad de Granada
