There is an important tradition in Mexico related to the use of the Internet as a communication strategy for distributing subversive and alternative political discourse since mid-1995, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), named after Manuel Castells as the first "informational guerrilla," until now with the use of social networks (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) as optimal spaces to promote alternative social movements such as "I am 132." The purpose of this paper is to make a comparative study in between the movements "EZLN" and "43 Ayotzinapa." Methodology is based on the comparative analysis of cases through the revision of academic literature and original material generated by activists. It focuses not only on studying their political propositions, but particularly on their tactics and the role played by technology in the construction of their discourse. Final outcomes will show in what way the technological change along the years has conditioned the form by which unsubordinated groups create and spread information and how technological platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have facilitated the communication and social participation of movements, but the research also pretend to understand until which level activists use tactics that have somewhat altered in more than 20 years.

Black hole superradiance and polarization-dependent bending of light

An inhomogeneous pseudo-scalar field configuration behaves like an optically active medium. Consequently, if a light ray passes through an axion cloud surrounding a Kerr black hole, it may experience a polarization-dependent bending. We explore the size and relevance of such effect considering both the QCD axion and a generic axion-like particle.Comment: Bulk of 29 pages + 11 figures. v2: minor changes, version accepted for publication in JCA

Given the social history surrounding the issue of HIV/AIDS in the LGBTQ+ community and the unique and intersectional experiences that Latinx Men who have Sex Men (MSM) have in their community, this dissertation’s research will contribute to the growing work on sexual racism and how it correlates with various elements of behavioral health. The study investigated the moderation impact of Latinx cultural values of caballerismo and familismo on the relationship between experiences sexual racism to mental health symptoms. The study also examined the moderation of caballerismo and familismo and psychological flexibility on the relationship between experiences of sexual racism to sexual risk behavior. Most importantly, the experience of sexual racism was narrowed to when participants had encountered sexual racism while on mobile applications. A cross sectional survey of Latinx MSM between the ages of 18 to 29 were surveyed and their responses were analyzed using multiple linear regressions and moderation analysis. Results indicated that there was a relationship between sexual racism and the outcome measures of mental health symptoms and sexual risk behavior, independently. Though caballerismo, familismo, and psychological flexibility had predictive relationships with the outcome variables, none of these factors demonstrated a statistically significant moderation on the sexual racism to mental health relationship or the sexual racism to sexual risk behavior relationship

On the east side of Atlanta, near Krog Street Tunnel, a Vacant Freight Container parking consisting of 70 acres divides local communities from one another. Also contributing to this divide in this part of the city is a major artery Dekalb Avenue as well as the major rail infrastructure that travels through Atlanta. Due to the Sites Elevated from the ground Concrete pad, this accentuates even more how this site is interrupting the local society in the area. Since the area of this part of town is lively and flourishing thanks to markets, business, residency and the beltline activating the neighborhood, there is already so much potential at this site. But in order to push growth for the east side of Atlanta also known as the Inman park and cabbagetown area, this site needs to be redeveloped to push Urban Diversity even further. Locals have already taken initiative to redevelop this site but no action has occurred. This site is not only perfect for re-development for local growth but how could a new type of community be retrofitted here? Recently, with an influx of immigrants from Latin America, relief centers are needed for New Immigrants looking for new life In The United States. My thesis looks at how vacant parts of dense cities can be transformed for local growth while also allowing a new type of growth for new comers. This Thesis Project proposes the Design for re-developing a vacant site into a flourishing Refugee & Local neighborhood Community. It shall provide not only housing and training centers for Refugees but also new retail locations, community spaces, parks, plazas and extending markets onto the site for fresh activities for the locals. Due to the Sites large plot, enough space is available for several program to be fused together while providing privacy for Refugees and public space for locals. My thesis aims to provide an interface between refugees and different type of inhabitants
