Comparison of teachers’ and vocalists’ awareness of voice functioning, voice emission therapy and physiotherapy

Introduction Voice seems to us inalienable, although the lack of proper voice hygiene can result in that we may be excluded from professional activity for a long time or even completely. Therefore, it was decided to check voice functioning awareness of people who professionally speak or sing. Material and methods The research was based on a survey on a sample of 135 people from the target group. The form consisted of 28 items, including detailed questions about the type and degree of occupational exposure to voice effort, as well as the level of physical activity, occurrence of possible disorders, addiction to stimulants such as cigarettes or alcohol, and questions regarding participation in classes of correct voice emission, awareness of the existence of physiotherapeutic assistance in the field of voice rehabilitation and many others. Results The results presented and discussed in detail include the analysis of answers to questions posed in the survey, as well as the results of the Voice Handicap Index test in the group of teachers and vocalists. Conclusions Significant differences in awareness of voice functioning between teachers and vocalists were noticed. It can be stated that among teachers the deteriorating voice correlates with the increase in age. On the other hand, among vocalists, the level of perceived voice fatigue remains relatively constant while aging. Teachers who participated in the study show significantly less awareness of the principles of proper voice emission and hygiene than vocalists, as demonstrated by the Voice Handicap Index

Der Aufsatz stellt eine Kurzfassung eines theoretischen Ansatzes des Autors bezüglich der Übersetzung dar. Evaluation of effort tolerance in diabetic and non-diabetic patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation after cardiac surgery

Introduction: Complex cardiac rehabilitation is a basic procedure of therapeutic treatment for patients after cardiac surgeries. The course of operations depends on many factors. The aim of this article is to investigate connections between type 2 diabetes and results of 6-minute walk test among patients after cardiac surgery. Materials and methods: This research was conducted among 111 patients who had cardiac surgery. Those patients were qualified to stay at a stationary cardiac rehabilitation facility. They were divided into two groups: patients with and without diabetes. In the analysis, patients’ medical data and 6-minute walk test results before and after complex rehabilitation were taken into consideration. Results: On the basis of our analysis it was found that patients who have diabetes achieve worse results of 6-minute walk test before (OR=0.995; p=0.005) and after (OR=0.994, p=0.006) complex cardiac rehabilitation in comparison with patients without diabetes. Conclusions: Type 2 diabetes has impact on physical effort tolerance among patients after cardiac surgery. Despite improvement of 6-minute walk test results thanks to complex cardiac rehabilitation, patients with type 2 diabetes walked shorter distance than patients without diabetes

On indexicality in the use of language

In dem Beitrag wird das Problem der besonderen linguistischen Einheiten – der indexikalischen Elemente – im Sprachgebrauch analysiert, die über keine eigentliche lexikalische Bedeutung, sondern lediglich über eine relationale Bedeutung im gegebenen Kontext verfügen. Nach einer kurzen Schilderung des Forschungsstands werden die ‚Indexikalitätsskala‘ einer Äußerung entworfen, die den Unbestimmtheitsgrad dieser Äußerung auswertet, sowie bezüglich der Indexikalität unterschiedlicher Textsorten Postulate formuliert.The following article concerns the problem of indexicality as an inherent part of human language use. Sulikowski describes the term in some theoretical approaches and issues postulates on indexicality in the translation of particular text genres. He claims that indexical parts of speech possess only relational meaning, bound to its use. Sulikowski creates the indexicality scale which shows the indexicality level of a utterance.Artykuł jest analizą problemu jednostek językowych w użyciu, które nie posiadają w danym kontekście użycia znaczenia leksykalnego, lecz jedynie znaczenie relacyjne.
