The Single Flavor Color Superconductivity in a Magnetic Field
We investigate the single flavor color superconductivity in a magnetic field.
Because of the absence of the electromagnetic Meissner effect, forming a
nonspherical CSC phase, polar, A or planar, does not cost energy of excluding
magnetic flux. We found that these nonspherical phases do occupy a significant
portion of the phase diagram with respect to magnetic field and temperature and
may be implemented under the typical quark density and the magnetic field
inside a compact star.Comment: 4 pages minor changes, typos fixed, figures redraw
A novel implementation of method of optimality criterion in synthesizing spacecraft structures with natural frequency constraints
In the design of spacecraft structures, fine tuning the structure to achieve minimum weight with natural frequency constraints is a time consuming process. Here, a novel implementation of the method of optimality criterion (OC) is developed. In this new implementation of OC, the free vibration analysis results are used to compute the eigenvalue sensitivity data required for the formulation. Specifically, the modal elemental strain and kinetic energies are used. Additionally, normalized design parameters are introduced as a second level linking that allows design variables of different values to be linked together. With the use of this novel formulation, synthesis of structures with natural frequency constraint can be carried out manually using modal analysis results. Design examples are presented to illustrate this novel implementation of the optimality criterion method
Dilemmatic Deliberations In Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling
My central claim in this paper is that Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling is governed by the basic aim to articulate a real dilemma, and to elicit its proper recognition as such. I begin by indicating how Kierkegaard’s works are shaped in general by this aim, and what the aim involves. I then show how the dilemmaticstructure of Fear and Trembling is obscured in a recent dispute between Michelle Kosch and John Lippitt regarding the basic aims and upshot of the book. Finally, I consider two critical questions: Why does Kierkegaard present his dilemmatic reasoning in the form of a “dialectical lyric”? And why does he write a book that aims only to articulate a dilemma, and not also to resolve it
