The research presented in this dissertation is related to the image reproduction quality assessment. Dissertation was designed to determine the impact of halftone attributes on image quality. Objective and subjective quality assessment results were designed to complement recently published findings for quality assessment. These attributes are directly dependent on the chosen halftoning method. In this research the samples were halftoned using two different types of screening methods: frequency modulated and amplitude modulated method. Experiment data samples, were analysed by adequate statistical methods. Results indicate significant influence of halftoning method on the quality assessment and defines control model

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF JUICE BOX GRAPHIC DESIGN SOLUTION INCONGRUENT WITH CONSUMER MEMORY SCHEMA

Graphic design solutions that are congruent with conventions of the consumer memory can initiate information processing in accordance with a schema, that is, unconventional solutions can activate the processing of schema ‒ incongruent information. This paper argues the effectiveness of unconventional graphic design solutions for a juice box packaging in relation to conventional solutions which are present daily in our surroundings. The experiment was designed to exemplify emotional response differences to conventional and unconventional graphic design solutions which can either activate congruent or incongruent information processing. Based on Mandler’s findings, we hypothesize that moderately incongruent schema, initiated by unconventional graphic design solution for packaging, will lead to more positive emotional response contrasting with a response initiated after information processing to scheme ‒ congruent solution. Our findings confirm the hypothesi

Detecting universal structure and effects of typefaces

This study investigates the effects of universal and specific characteristics of typefaces with combined method—through comparison of the results of digital analysis and subjects’ responses to binary images stimuli. Results point to the dependency of the response in relation to the isolated characteristic of the universal structure. In other words, with the combined method in this study we disclose that certain attributes are assigned to typefaces in accordance with their matching or mismatching to the universal structure. The findings open the question of the functionality of existing classifications, and the need of redefining the old, or establishing the new classification systems of typefaces

Disadvantages of electrocoagulation-flotation treatment of offset printing effluents

    Get PDF
The efficiency of electrocoagulation-flotation (ECF) treatment was estimated based on the quantity of pollutants (cooper, turbidity, and organic substances) in printing effluents (waste offset printing developer and waste offset fountain solution) at selected process parameters. Four sets of aluminum or/and iron electrode combinations were applied, each with a current density of 2, 4, and 8 mA cm−2 and interelectrode distances of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 cm. In the progress of the ECF treatment, samples were taken at certain process times (1, 5, 10, 20, 40, and 60 min). Based on the obtained results, the disadvantages of ECF treatment of offset printing effluents are defined

Effective Dynamic Range Evaluation of Digital Still Images in Mobile Devices

    Get PDF
Digital photography has immersed in everyday surroundings through mobile devices which became the most popular tool for taking pictures. However, the compactness of these devices is an obstacle for certain image quality parameters when it comes to usability. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effective dynamic range of mobile device cameras. We obtained opto-electric conversion function (OECF) measurements according to ISO standard for total and effective dynamic range evaluation. Additionally, the evaluation of effective dynamic range using high dynamic range image construction was performed where algorithms for tone mapping were applied. Our findings indicate little difference in OECF values among different mobile device cameras, as well as for the total dynamic range values. However, when it comes to the effective dynamic range, cameras in these devices show less input-output conversion stability. Additionally, tone mapping indicates that the effective dynamic range is different between devices

Electrocoagulation removal of heavy metals from wastewater generated by washing a screen printing plate

    Get PDF
The possibility of applying electrocoagulation treatment to remove heavy metals (zinc, copper, and chromium) from wastewater generated during the washing process of the screen printing plate was carried out. The electrocoagulation efficiency is estimated based on reducing the concentrations of detected heavy metals in the screen wastewater at defined process parameters such as electrode material, current density, interelectrode distance, and operating times

The influence of heat treatment on the quality of screen printed textile substrates

    Get PDF
During exploitation, textile products printed with screen printing technique are quite often exposed to variousinfluences, one of which is a heat treatment- firstly during the production process and later on when ironing.Heat is simultaneously affecting deposited colorants (ink) on the surface of the substrate material, as well astextile fibers in the material structure. As a result, colorimetric characteristics of printed colorants arechanged. The research presented in this paper aims to determine the influence of heat treatment on colorchanges of screen printed textile substrates, observed in CIE L*, a*, b* color space. Macro non-uniformity ofthe printed cotton textile materials was analyzed as a function of temperature levels applied during thermaltreatments and textile material characteristics, as well as mesh counts of screens used in the printing process. The results show that thermal treatment affects the color change of printed samples

What is a satisfactory quality when it comes to graphic arts industry? Acceptable quality of halftone image is becomesame as photographic picture. There are many different ways in which one can try to reach the desired quality.Different methods of halftoning (lpi and diferent methods of forming halftone dot), scanning, prepress, platemaking are just some ways to influence the final printing result. Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of acertain halftoning technique will give us more ability to choose the right process path
