    Spin-orbit contribution to radiative losses for spinning binaries with aligned spins

    We compute the leading order contribution to radiative losses in the case of spinning binaries with aligned spins due to their spin-orbit interaction. The orbital average along hyperboliclike orbits is taken through an appropriate spin-orbit modification to the quasi-Keplerian parametrization for nonspinning bodies, which maintains the same functional form, but with spin-dependent orbital elements. We perform consistency checks with existing PN-based and PM-based results. In the former case, we compare our expressions for both radiated energy and angular momentum with those obtained in [JHEP \textbf{04}, 154 (2022)] by applying the boundary-to-bound correspondence to known results for ellipticlike orbits, finding agreement. The linear momentum loss is instead newly computed here. In the latter case, we also find agreement with the low-velocity limit of recent calculations of the total radiated energy, angular momentum and linear momentum in the framework of an extension of the worldline quantum field theory approach to the classical scattering of spinning bodies at the leading post-Minkowskian order [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{128}, no.1, 011101 (2022), Phys. Rev. D \textbf{106}, no.4, 044013 (2022)]. We get exact expressions of the radiative losses in terms of the orbital elements, even if they are at the leading post-Newtonian order, so that their expansion for large values of the eccentricity parameter (or equivalently of the impact parameter) provides higher-order terms in the corresponding post-Minkowskian expansion, which can be useful for future crosschecks of other approaches.Comment: 10 pages, no figures, revtex macro

    Chapter Gli economisti e il corporativismo nell’Italia fascista

    This paper focuses on the role and relevance of Corporatism in the Italian tradition of economic studies during the 1920s and 1930s. Historiography offers two different interpretations: Corporatism as a propaganda phenomenon and an economic doctrine limiting freedom; Corporatism as a series of policy measures devised to stabilize the Italian economy after WW1. To correctly assess the phenomenon of Corporatism, this paper chooses a different approach: an in depth analysis of the main theoretical answers proposed by Italian economists in regard to the most significant policy issues of the time. For example: corporatist wage and labor policy, the post-1929 relief measures, the bail out of some leading banks, the foundation of the Italian Financial Institute (IMI) in 1931 and of the Industrial Reconstruction Institute (IRI) in 1933, and finally the projected third way between a market economy and a command economy. One of the main conclusions of this research is that the energies and time spent into devising a Corporatist economic system and Corporatist policy measures hindered the advancement of economic studies in Italy

    Laparoscopic repair for perforated peptic ulcers with U-CLIP®

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The literature established that, in patients without Boey's risk factors, laparoscopic repair of perforated peptic ulcers, compared to open repair, is associated to lower wound infection rate, less analgesic use, reduction in post operative pain, shorter hospital stay. Some of the main drawbacks are length of operative time and laparoscopic surgeon's experience in intracorporeal knotting.</p> <p>We, for first, report our preliminary experience of perforated peptic ulcers' laparoscopic repair using Medtronic U-Clip<sup>®</sup>.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>From January 2008 to June 2008 we performed laparoscopic repair of perforated peptic ulcers using Medtronic U-Clip<sup>® </sup>in 10 consecutive patients (6 men and 4 women, from 20 to 65 years-old of age). All the patients presented with iuxtapyloric perforated peptic ulcer, not greater than 10 mm, without signs of sepsis, free from major illnesses. The mini-invasive procedure was performed both by skilled and non-skilled laparoscopic surgeons under experts' surveillance. After it was recognized, perforation was sutured using U-Clip<sup>® </sup>in a full-thickness manner.</p> <p>Results and Discussion</p> <p>We reported no surgical complications in the peri-operative period. The clinical outcome and time needed to perform the intervention didn't change between skilled and non-skilled surgeons. The follow-up at 30 days was good.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In our experience, the anastomotic device U-Clip<sup>® </sup>simplifies laparoscopic repair of perforated peptic ulcer, avoiding the need to perform knots and making the procedure safe and easier.</p

    Detection of post-traumatic abdominal pseudoaneurysms by CEUS and CT: A prospective comparative global study (the PseAn study)-study protocol

    The success of non-operative management in trauma increased with the availability of new-generation CT scan machines, endoscopy, and angiography, becoming the standard of care in hemodynamically stable trauma patients with abdominal solid organ injuries, with a success rate of 78% to 98%. Post-traumatic pseudoaneurysms (PAs) can develop at any region of an injured artery and they may cause delayed bleeding in splenic or hepatic trauma, with an incidence in patients treated with NOM of 2%-27% and 1.2%-6.1% respectively. Diagnosis is made by angiography, contrast-enhanced computer tomography (CT), or Doppler Ultrasound (US) while the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), has increased in recent years although few data are available about CEUS feasibility in the follow-up setting. The PseaAn study has been designed to assess the role of CEUS in the follow-up of abdominal trauma by defining its sensitivity, specificity and predictive values compared with abdominal CT scan. The PseAn study is a multi-centric international diagnostic cross-sectional study initiated by the Level I Trauma Center of the Niguarda Ca' Granda Hospital in Milan, Italy. To study the role of CEUS in detecting post-traumatic splenic, hepatic, and renal PAs compared with the gold standard of CT with intravenous contrast at different follow-up time points, and whether it can replace CT scan in the follow-up of solid organ injuries, patients with OIS III and above will undergo a follow-up with both a CEUS and CT scan to detect post-traumatic parenchymal pseudoaneurysm within two to five days from injury. The use of CEUS in the follow-up of abdominal trauma follow-up (particularly blunt trauma) has increased, to minimise the use of ionizing radiation and contrast media and encouraging results have been published during the last decade showing that CEUS is an accurate technique for evaluating traumatic lesions of solid abdominal organs. Conclusions We think that CEUS, which is underused worldwide, is a useful and safe tool that may replace CT scan in follow-up with the major advantage of reduced radiation. Our current study may give stronger evidence to support this view
