Digital Forensics Investigation Frameworks for Cloud Computing and Internet of Things

    Get PDF
Rapid growth in Cloud computing and Internet of Things (IoT) introduces new vulnerabilities that can be exploited to mount cyber-attacks. Digital forensics investigation is commonly used to find the culprit and help expose the vulnerabilities. Traditional digital forensics tools and methods are unsuitable for use in these technologies. Therefore, new digital forensics investigation frameworks and methodologies are required. This research develops frameworks and methods for digital forensics investigations in cloud and IoT platforms

Historical and Scientific Contexts of the Tendency of Qur'anic Scholars to the Scientific Miracle (I’jāz) of the Qur'ān

    Get PDF
Science and theories are influenced by the assumptions, beliefs and discourses that govern the situational context, and in other words, by the historical, cultural, social, and scientific conditions that govern the expert scientific community. Accurate and comprehensive explanation of any theory requires reflection on its historical and scientific contexts of its appearance. This study attempts to examine such contexts and contexts as factors that lead to the tendency of Qur'anic scholars to choose the Quranic scientific side of I’jāz over time. One of the most prominent causes of tendency to scientific miracle must be referred to unifying the scientific view of the Quran and avoiding divisive theological and jurisprudential views, confrontation and boredom against progress and colonialism of the West, scientific expertise of believers in scientific miracle and having a materialistic and mundane view toward Qur'anic verses based on the conditions and needs of the time

A New DeadBeat-Based Direct Power Control of Shunt Active Power Filter with Digital Implementation Delay Compensation

    Get PDF
Active Power Filter (APF) can significantly compensate the current harmonics produced by nonlinear loads. To do this feature, harmonic detection reference current generation play vital role. Direct Power Controller (DPC) has great harmony with instantaneous power compensation (PQ) algorithm as well as the ability to eliminate internal current loops. In addition, DeadBeat Controller (DBC) has high compatibility for digital implementation, superior control performance and fast dynamic response. However, DBC suffers from time delay linked to control action calculation and digital implementation. In this paper, a new deadbeat-based DPC method is proposed firstly to generate reference current and control of APF. Secondly, a simple and robust compensation method is proposed to eliminate aforementioned deadbeat delay thanks to the online/offline predictions. Several simulations are conducted in MATLAB/SIMULINK verified by experimental tests obtained from a DSP-based active power filter to illustrate the effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed control method. By employing the proposed control method, the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of grid current is decreased from 22% to 3% under steady state condition. While the dynamic response with proposed delay compensation validates significant transient response improvement.publishedVersionPeer reviewe

A new compound maleimide-5-oxime was isolated, together with 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, tetillapyrone, from the ethyl acetate extract of the marine sponge Haliclona baeri while tetillapyrone, nortetillapyrone, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and phenylacetic acid were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Haliclona cymaeformis, collected from the Gulf of Thailand. The structures of tetillapyrone and nortetillapyrone were re-examined using HMBC correlations. Maleimide-5-oxime, tetillapyrone and nortetillapyrone were found to be inactive against three human tumor cell lines (the estrogen-dependent ER(+) MCF-7, the estrogen-independent ER(−) MDA-MB-231 and NCI-H460. Maleimide-5-oxime, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, phenylacetic acid, tetillapyrone and nortetillapyrone were evaluated for their growth inhibitory effect against seven yeasts and eight filamentous fungi. Only nortetillapyrone showed antifungal activity, with a preponderance on the dermatophytic filamentous fungi

Comprehensive Design and Experimental Verification of Shunt Active Power Filter

Harmonic pollution imposed by non-linear loads has become one of the main power quality challenges. In addition, reactive power absorption related to non-linear loads may result in serious power quality issues like voltage drop or voltage instability. Among different passive and active power filters (APFs), shunt active power filter (SAPF) is used a lot since it can compensate both complete harmonic and reactive components as well as high flexibility without any resonance. However, harmonic detection, hardware, and control design play vital role in the performance of the SAPF. From hardware point of view, design of the DC-link capacitor and series inductor are two main challenges. In this paper, a comprehensive design procedure is presented to design the suitable passive elements. In addition, high performance control design is also considered. Several simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proper design and controller performance.acceptedVersionPeer reviewe

Cloud computing is a promising next-generation computing paradigm that offers significant economic benefits to both commercial and public entities. Furthermore, cloud computing provides accessibility, simplicity, and portability for its customers. Due to the unique combination of characteristics that cloud computing introduces (including on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service), digital investigations face various technical, legal, and organizational challenges to keep up with current developments in the field of cloud computing. There are a wide variety of issues that need to be resolved in order to perform a proper digital investigation in the cloud environment. This paper examines the challenges in cloud forensics that are identified in the current research literature, alongside exploring the existing proposals and technical solutions addressed in the respective research. The open problems that need further effort are highlighted. As a result of the analysis of literature, it is found that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to perform an investigation and discovery in the cloud environment without relying on cloud service providers (CSPs). Therefore, dependence on the CSPs is ranked as the greatest challenge when investigators need to acquire evidence in a timely yet forensically sound manner from cloud systems. Thus, a fully independent model requires no intervention or cooperation from the cloud provider is proposed. This model provides a different approach to a forensic acquisition and analysis system (FAAS) in an Infrastructure as a Service model. FAAS seeks to provide a richer and more complete set of admissible evidences than what current CSPs provide, with no requirement for CSP involvement or modification to the CSP’s underlying architecture

A New Hybrid Controller for Standalone Photovoltaic Power System with Unbalanced Loads

    No full text
Due to several problems such as global concern about environmental pollution, renewable energy has become an alternative source of energy. In situations such as small local loads far from the main grid, standalone hybrid power system (HPS) with inevitable unbalanced loading condition is preferred for the global grid. The four-leg inverter with a simple as well as well-performance control method is a good solution to support this condition. In this paper, with respect to the average and discretized model of the inverter, a new digital controller is proposed in the abc reference frame to control the load voltages. The proposed controller offers several advantages such as simplicity, fast dynamic response, no need for transformation among different reference frames, and full compatibility with digital implementation which makes it as an excellent option to be employed in such systems. In addition, a new hybrid controller is also proposed which not only has the advantages of the proposed digital controller but also shows superior performance under nonlinear loads without imposing a high computational burden. To verify the effectiveness of the two proposed controllers, several simulation and experimental tests under different scenarios on a 3 kW setup are performed

Review Drugs and Cosmetics from the Sea

Abstract: The marine environment is a rich source of both biological and chemical diversity. This diversity has been the source of unique chemical compounds with the potential for industrial development as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutritional supplements, molecular probes, fine chemicals and agrochemicals. In recent years, a significant number of novel metabolites with potent pharmacological properties has been discovered from the marine organisms. Although there are only a few marine-derived products currently on the market, several robust new compounds derived from marine natural products are now in the clinical pipeline, with more clinical development. While the marine world offers an extremely rich resource for novel compounds, it also represents a great challenge that requires inputs from various scientific areas to bring the marine chemical diversity up to its therapeutic potential
