Italian Immigration in the United States

This study is a historical research that used content analysis of secondary sources (newspapers, magazines, literature, movies and sociological studies) in order to describe Italian immigration in America. The research is focused on Italian-American communities in the areas of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. Between 1880 and 1920, Italian-Americans became one of the largest ethnic groups in the United States. For a long period, they faced discrimination and lived at the edge of the American society. Education, immigration and urban policies influenced the social structure of the Italian communities. Later, second generation immigrants started writing books and making movies that expressed a different perception of the Italian-American identity. At the same time, in 1950s and 1960s, the Italian economy boosted, and the Italy started to be associated with culture, beauty, fashion and style. Thus, in the last decades Italian-Americans became proud of their ethnic heritage

Accuracy and precision of an intraoral scanner in complex prosthetic rehabilitations: an in vitro study

The main purpose of this study is to measure the accuracy and the precision of the intraoral optical scanner CS3500® (Carestream Dental LLC, Atlanta, USA) in complex clinical situations as full arch rehabilitations on impl ants. 50 scans of the acrylic resin model were performed by using CS3500® (Carestream Dental LLC, Atlanta, USA) scanner. Each scan was compared with the virtual model derived from scanning with the laboratory scanner Dscan3® (Enhanced Geometry Soluti on, Bologna, Italy) to measure a possible misalignment. The alignment error was found to be 79,6 ( ± 12,87)  m. The measurement was taken at the level of 2 distal scan - abutments. The scanner's precision ranges from 24 to 52  m , depending on the dist ance between scan - abutment. CS3500® (Carestream Dental LLC, Atlanta, USA) intraoral scanner has detected a valid device in the execution of complex rehabilitations on implants. His accuracy and precision values fall within the range established in li terature to define acceptable the prosthetic fitting on full arch implant rehabilitation

Evaluation of performance fatigability through surface EMG in health and muscle disease: state of the art

In literature, it is commonly reported that the progress of performance fatigability may be indirectly assessed through the changes in the features of the surface electromyogram (sEMG) signal. In particular, during isometric constant force contractions, changes in the sEMG signal are caused by several physiological factors, such as a decay in muscle fibers conduction velocity (CV), an increase of the degree of synchronization between the firing times of simultaneously active motor units (MUs), by the central nervous system, and a reduction of the recruitment threshold and a modulation of MUs firing rate. Amplitude and spectral parameters may be used to characterize the global contributions to performance fatigability, such as MU control properties and fiber membrane properties, or central and peripheral factors, respectively. In addition, being CV a physiological parameter, its estimation is of marked interest to the study of fatigue both in physiological and in presence of neuromuscular diseases

Identification of muscle innervation zones using linear electrode arrays: a fundamental step to measure fibers conduction velocity

Fiber conduction velocity (CV) is a parameter correlated to the physiological membrane properties of the skeletal muscle fibers. Changes in muscle fiber CV are correlated to the gradation of force and fatigue, and can be measured by means of surface electromyography EMG (sEMG). sEMG measurement of CV during muscle contractions requires the correct identification of the skeletal muscle innervation zone (IZ). In superficial muscles, IZ location can be detected using linear electrode arrays and visually identified as the point of inversion of the detected motor unit action potential (MUAP) propagation. In the present work, we present a method for the effective and fast detection of the IZ location, through the following procedures: (1) identification of the target superficial muscle considering the muscle fiber architecture; (2) electrode array selection based on interelectrode distance and number of electrodes; (3) subject training to perform submaximal isometric contractions of the target muscle/s; (4) electrode array positioning along the muscle surface to investigate the IZ position during the contractions by visual identification of MUAP patterns

La pace ... E 'qualcosa che viene negoziato? Non è una condizione adeguata dell'uomo e della sua essenza come un individuo e della sua convivenza con la comunità che tende a un ottimo rapporto tra individui che professano diverse forme ideologiche del pensiero privo di parzialità e attaccamenti particolari, non consiste, per definizione, di uno stato di diritto e di dovere personale e collettivo che, secondo molte fonti, deriva da una situazione di calma e tranquillità? L'etimologia di questa parola di tre lettere, dal PAX latina, che è considerato come "La pace si riferisce ad uno stato di tranquillità e sicurezza ... di armonia che è privo di guerre, conflitti e battute d'arresto, tutti noi vogliamo vivere nel nostro paese e dentro di noi ... la pace è universalmente desiderabile e sappiamo che per mantenere è necessario essere tolleranti ed  aperti al dialogo, indipendentemente dei nostri valori culturali. " Il seguente articolo è un'analisi storiografica della capacità creativa e distruttiva degli esseri umani e come l'architettura e l'arte sono un mezzo di sostegno che onorifica alla vittima, senza esaltare il vittimario permettendo al luogo dove non c'era la pace e c'é stato il conflitto, su un evento del genere,  dare alla comunità una  memoria eppure  individuale ed evitare cosí che il cittadino,  alla fine, non possa  evitare dimenticare, rivendicare  alla vittima e tendere a non ripetere mai più un atto di violenza che inquadra e taglia nel caso peggiore impossibile da riparare, ma almeno attraverso l'arte, l'architettura e il design possono essere esaltati eternamente nella generazione di spazi architettonici pubblici in cui convergono arte, design e architettura.La Paz...¿ Es acaso algo que se negocia?¿ Acaso no es un estado propio del hombre y de su esencia como ser individual y desde su convivencia con la comunidad  propendiendo a  una excelente relación entre individuos que profesan diferentes formas ideológicas de pensamiento desprovista de parcialidades y apegos particulares?¿ No consiste por definición en un estado de derecho y deber personal y colectivo que según muchas fuentes resulta de una situación de quietud y de tranquilidad? La  etimología de esta palabra de tres letras, procede  del latín PAX, que se considera como   "La paz se refiere a un estado de tranquilidad y seguridad...de armonía que esta libre de guerras, conflictos y contratiempos, Todos deseamos experimentarla en nuestro país y en nuestro interior... La paz es deseable universalmente y sabemos que para mantenerla es necesario ser tolerante y abierto al dialogo independientemente de nuestros valores culturales. "[1] El siguiente articulo es un análisis historiográfico de la capacidad creadora y destructora del ser humano y como la arquitectura y el arte son un medio de reivindicación que honorifica a la victima sin exaltar al victimario permitiendo que en el lugar donde hubo ausencia de paz y se motivo un conflicto, tal evento quede en la memoria comunitaria e individual del ciudadano  para evitar el olvido, reivindicar a la victima y propender al nunca mas volver a repetir un acto de violencia que marco y segó en el peor de los casos vidas imposibles de reparar, pero al menos por medio del arte, la arquitectura y el diseño poderlas exaltar eternamente en la generación de espacios arquitectónicos públicos donde confluye el arte, el diseño y la arquitectura.   [1] https://definicion.de/paz

Improved Thermal Transmittance Measurement with HFM Technique on Building Envelopes in the Mediterranean Area

Abstract Although the designed theoretical value of U can be derived from the thermal parameters of layers composing an opaque element, according to ISO 6946:2007, measurements are necessary to confirm the expected behaviour. Currently, the measurements of thermal transmittance based on Heat Flow Meter method (HFM) and according to standard ISO 9869-1:2014 are widely accepted. Anyway, some issues related to difficulties in measurements are present: the roughness of wall surfaces, the proper contact between the heat flow plate and the temperature probes with wall surfaces, undesired changes in weather conditions. This work presents the results obtained in thermal transmittance measurements with a modified HFM method, widely described in this paper. Differences between U-values obtained with the modified HFM method and theoretical ones were in the range 0.6 - 6.5 %. Moreover, the modified HFM method provided a result closer to the theoretical one, when compared to that obtained with standard HFM method (discrepancy with theoretical value were 0.6% and 16.4%, respectively)

The architectural heritage as an interdisciplinary communication space

La arquitectura, desde sus inicios, es considerada como el mayor logro del ser humano puesto que en su propósito, función y forma reúne todos los elementos que permiten referenciar una sociedad, sea cual sea esta, en cualquier parte del mundo. La arquitectura traduce las aspiraciones materiales y espirituales del ser humano; es el ámbito en el cual el hombre se desarrolla, evoluciona e, incluso, puede llegar a su fin. Irónicamente, cuando el hombre llega a su fin, el testimonio de su existencia es el vestigio arquitectónico que habla de ese hombre y su comunidad, como un libro, el cual se abre totalmente en múltiples páginas, y el patrimonio es la narrativa que permite, entre líneas y párrafos, identificar una historia. El presente documento surge de un proyecto de investigación que demostró cómo, a partir del bien edificado, es posible, con un sistema de intervención interdisciplinar del arte, el diseño y de comunicación visual, poner en valor la esencia formal y tipológica del inmueble a partir de una poética visual que lo actualiza y lo pone en valor, devolviendo su materialidad al imaginario de una comunidad que finalmente lo reconoce y lo valora por medio de una imagen que habla más que mil palabras.Architecture, from its beginnings, is considered as the greatest achievement of the human being since in its purpose, function and form it gathers all the elements that allow referencing a society, whatever it is, in any part of the world. Architecture translates the material and spiritual aspirations of the human being; it is the field in which man develops, evolves and may even come to an end. Ironically, when the man comes to an end, the testimony of his existence is the architectural vestige that speaks of that man and his community, like a book, which opens completely in multiple pages and heritage is the narrative that allows between lines and paragraphs identify a story. This document arises from a research project that showed how, from the built-up good, it is possible with an interdisciplinary intervention system of art, design and visual communication, to value the formal and typological essence of the property, starting from a visual poetics that updates it and puts it into value by returning its materiality to the imaginary of a community that finally recognizes and values it through an image that speaks more than a thousand words
