Formation of three-particle clusters in hetero-junctions and MOSFET structures
A novel interaction mechanism in MOSFET structures and
hetero-junctions between the zone electrons of the two-dimensional (2D) gas and
the charged traps on the insulator side is considered. By applying a canonical
transformation, off-diagonal terms in the Hamiltonian due to the trapped level
subsystem are excluded. This yields an effective three-particle attractive
interaction as well as a pairing interaction inside the 2D electronic band. A
type of Bethe- Goldstone equation for three particles is studied to clarify the
character of the binding and the energy of the three-particle bound states. The
results are used to offer a possible explanation of the Metal-Insulator
transition recently observed in MOSFET and hetero-junctions.Comment: 4 page
Horizontal and vertical movements of starry smooth-hound Mustelus asterias in the northeast Atlantic
Commercial landings of starry smooth-hound Mustelus asterias in northern European seas are increasing, whilst our knowledge of their ecology, behaviour and population structure remains limited. M. asterias is a widely distributed demersal shark, occupying the waters of the southern North Sea and Irish Sea in the north, to at least the southern Bay of Biscay in the south, and is seasonally abundant in UK waters. There are no species-specific management measures for the northeast Atlantic stock, and the complexity of its population structure is not yet fully understood. To address this issue, we deployed both mark-recapture and electronic tags on M. asterias to gain novel insights into its horizontal and vertical movements. Our data suggest that the habitat use of M. asterias changes on a seasonal basis, with associated changes in geographical distribution, depth utilisation and experienced temperature. We report the first direct evidence of philopatry for this species, and also provide initial evidence of sex-biased dispersal and potential metapopulation-like stock structuring either side of the UK continental shelf. Investigations of finer-scale vertical movements revealed clear diel variation in vertical activity. The illustrated patterns of seasonal space-use and behaviour will provide important information to support the stock assessment process and will help inform any future management options
Gauge invariant reduction to the light-front
The problem of constructing gauge invariant currents in terms of light-cone
bound-state wave functions is solved by utilising the gauging of equations
method. In particular, it is shown how to construct perturbative expansions of
the electromagnetic current in the light-cone formalism, such that current

CP--odd Correlation in the Decay of Neutral Higgs Boson into , , or
We investigate the possibility of detecting CP--odd angular correlations in
the various decay modes of the neutral Higgs boson including the modes of a
pair, a pair, or a heavy quark pair. It is a natural way to probe
the CP character of the Higgs boson once it is identified. Final state
interactions (i.e. the absorptive decay amplitude) is not required in such
correlations. As an illustrative example we take the fundamental source of the
CP nonconservation to be in the Yukawa couplings of the Higgs boson to the
heavy fermions. A similar correlation in the process is
also proposed. Our analysis of these correlations will be useful for

Continuum theory of vacancy-mediated diffusion
We present and solve a continuum theory of vacancy-mediated diffusion (as
evidenced, for example, in the vacancy driven motion of tracers in crystals).
Results are obtained for all spatial dimensions, and reveal the strongly
non-gaussian nature of the tracer fluctuations. In integer dimensions, our
results are in complete agreement with those from previous exact lattice
calculations. We also extend our model to describe the vacancy-driven

superconducting wiring in such a manner that there are N-1 individual SQUID

Screening current effects in Josephson junction arrays
The purpose of this work is to compare the dynamics of arrays of Josephson
junctions in presence of magnetic field in two different frameworks: the so
called XY frustrated model with no self inductance and an approach that takes
into account the screening currents (considering self inductances only). We
show that while for a range of parameters the simpler model is sufficiently
accurate, in a region of the parameter space solutions arise that are not

Temporal build-up of electromagnetically induced transparency and absorption resonances in degenerate two-level transitions
The temporal evolution of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and
absorption (EIA) coherence resonances in pump-probe spectroscopy of degenerate
two-level atomic transition is studied for light intensities below saturation.
Analytical expression for the transient absorption spectra are given for simple
model systems and a model for the calculation of the time dependent response of
realistic atomic transitions, where the Zeeman degeneracy is fully accounted
for, is presented. EIT and EIA resonances have a similar (opposite sign) time
dependent lineshape, however, the EIA evolution is slower and thus narrower
lines are observed for long interaction time. Qualitative agreement with the
theoretical predictions is obtained for the transient probe absorption on the

The extended empirical process test for non-Gaussianity in the CMB, with an application to non-Gaussian inflationary models
In (Hansen et al. 2002) we presented a new approach for measuring
non-Gaussianity of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy pattern,
based on the multivariate empirical distribution function of the spherical
harmonics a_lm of a CMB map. The present paper builds upon the same ideas and
proposes several improvements and extensions. More precisely, we exploit the
additional information on the random phases of the a_lm to provide further
tests based on the empirical distribution function. Also we take advantage of
the effect of rotations in improving the power of our procedures. The suggested
tests are implemented on physically motivated models of non-Gaussian fields;
Monte-Carlo simulations suggest that this approach may be very promising in the
analysis of non-Gaussianity generated by non-standard models of inflation. We
address also some experimentally meaningful situations, such as the presence of
