    LIGNANS FROM LEAVES OF AMESIODENDRON CHINENSE AND THEIR CYTOTOXIC ACTIVITY

    ABSTRACTFrom leaves of Amesiodendron chinense (Mer.) Hu four lignans (+)-aptosimon (1), (+)-isolariciresinol (2), (-)-cleomiscosin A (3), and (-)-cleomiscosin C (3) were isolated. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis including MS, 1D and 2D NMR as well as by comparison with reported data in literature. All compounds were evaluated for cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines, KB, SK-LU-1, MCF-7, HepG-2, and SW-480. They showed weak cytotoxic activity on five tested human cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 32.61 to 95.18 µg/ml

    From the ethyl acetate extract of the leaves of Amensiodendron chinense (Merr.) Hu (Sapindaceae), we isolated three known phenolic compounds: 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (1), methyl 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (2), and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (3).     Effects of different plant growth regulators as the foliar application on growth and flower quality of potted rose (Rosa chinensis Jacq. cv. Nhung)

    This study was conducted to evaluate the different concentrations of Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), Benzyladenine (BA) and Gibberellic acid (GA3­) as foliar applications on growth and flower quality of potted rose Nhung (Rosa chinensis Jacq. cv. Nhung). The experiment was constructed in a completely randomized design, that included seven treatments, such as control (sprayed water), NAA, BA and GA3 at two different concentrations of 25 and 50 ppm, in six replications, with one plant/pot for each replication. The chemical solutions were applied three times at an interval of fifteen days. The results revealed that some plant growth regulators increased the growth and flowering time of rose cv. Nhung. Using pre-harvest foliar sprays of NAA and BA at 25 and 50 ppm concentrations showed maximum bud diameter, flower diameter and flowering duration as compared with the control treatment. The concentration of  GA3 foliar application at 25 ppm increased plant growth (the height of flowering branches and Spad values) without affecting flower quality values and the flowering duration in comparison with the control treatment

    Iridoid glycosides from Morinda tomentosa and their endoplasmic reticulum stress modulation activity

    Three iridoids 1 - 3, asperulosidic acid, daphylloside, and asperuloside, were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves of Morinda tomentosa. Their chemical structures were elucidated by 1D- and 2D-NMR spectra and in comparison with those reported in the literature. The effects of these compounds on the endoplasmic reticulum stress in XBP1-eGFP-transfected the 293 T cells were measured. Compound 3 significantly reduced the ER-stress both in DMSO-treated and thapsigargin-treated cells. Unlike this compound, compound 3 selectively reduced thapsigargin-induced ER-stress without any effect on the level of XBP1 splicing in DMSO-treated cells. These results suggested that compounds 2 and 3 can be suggested as new ER stress regulators

    Distributed Optical Fiber-Based Approach for Soil-Structure Interaction

    Scour is a hydraulic risk threatening the stability of bridges in fluvial and coastal areas. Therefore, developing permanent and real-time monitoring techniques is crucial. Recent advances in strain measurements using fiber optic sensors allow new opportunities for scour monitoring. In this study, the innovative optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) was used to evaluate the effect of scour by performing distributed strain measurements along a rod under static lateral loads. An analytical analysis based on the Winkler model of the soil was carefully established and used to evaluate the accuracy of the fiber optic sensors and helped interpret the measurements results. Dynamic tests were also performed and results from static and dynamic tests were compared using an equivalent cantilever model.L'affouillement est un risque hydraulique menaçant la stabilité des ponts dans les zones fluviales et côtières. Par conséquent, le développement de techniques de surveillance permanentes et en temps réel est crucial. Avancées récentes dans les mesures de déformation à l'aide de capteurs à fibres optiques offrent de nouvelles opportunités pour la surveillance de l'affouillement. Dans cette étude, la réflectométrie innovante du domaine fréquentiel optique (OFDR) a été utilisée pour évaluer l'effet de l'affouillement en effectuant des mesures de déformation réparties le long d'une tige sous des charges latérales statiques.Une analyse analytique basée sur le modèle Winkler du sol a été soigneusement établie et utilisée pour évaluer la précision des capteurs à fibre optique et aider à interpréter les résultats des mesures.Des tests dynamiques ont également été effectués et les résultats des tests statiques et dynamiques ont été comparés en utilisant un modèle en porte-à-faux équivalent

    Results of Surgical treatment for Clavicle Fractures in Vietnamese Adults

    Objectives: To describe the pattern of clavicle fractures and to evaluate the results of surgicaltreatment for clavicle fractures.Patients and methods: This retrospective study included 38 cases of clavicle fractures who weretreated by open reduction internal fi xation at Hanoi Medical University Hospital between January 2008and June 2013.Results: The ratio of male to female was 1.5/1. Average age was 42.0 years. Simple fractures (nointermediate fragments) are most common with 65.8% of patients. Middle third fractures accounted for92.1% of patients. Bone union rate was 100%. The surgical results were excellent in 94.7% and good in5.3% of cases according to Constant Score.Conclusion: Open reduction internal fi xation of clavicle fractures had good results. All patients weresatisfi ed with the results.</p

    Development of a Cell Suspension Culture System for Promoting Alkaloid and Vinca Alkaloid Biosynthesis Using Endophytic Fungi Isolated from Local Catharanthus roseus

    Cell and tissue cultures of Catharanthus roseus have been studied extensively as an alternative strategy to improve the production of valuable secondary metabolites. The purpose of this study was to produce C. roseus callus and suspension cell biomass of good quality and quantity to improve the total alkaloids and bis-indole alkaloids. The young stem derived-callus of C. roseus variety Quang Ninh (QN) was grown on MS medium supplemented with 1.5 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) plus 1.5 mg/L kinetin, and the growth rate increased by 67-fold after 20 days. The optimal conditions for maintaining the cell suspension culture were 150 mg/50 mL cell inoculum, a medium pH of 5.5 and a culture temperature of 25 °C. The low alkaloid content in the culture was compensated for by using endophytic fungi isolated from local C. roseus. Cell extracts of endophytic fungi—identified as Fusarium solani RN1 and Chaetomium funicola RN3—were found to significantly promote alkaloid accumulation. This elicitation also stimulated the accumulation of a tested bis-indole alkaloid, vinblastine. The findings are important for investigating the effects of fungal elicitors on the biosynthesis of vinblastine and vincristine, as well as other terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs), in C. roseus QN cell suspension cultures
