The Distribution of Dengue Virus Serotype in Quang Nam Province (Vietnam) during the Outbreak in 2018
Objectives: Quang Nam province in the Centre of Vietnam has faced an outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in 2018. Although DHF is a recurrent disease in this area, no epidemiological and microbiological reports on dengue virus serotypes have been conducted mainly due to lack of facilities for such a kind of advanced surveillance. The aim of this study was to detect different dengue virus serotypes in patients’ blood samples. Design and Methods: Suspected cases living in Quang Nam province (Vietnam) and presenting clinical and hematological signs of dengue hemorrhagic fever were included in the study. The screening was performed, and the results were compared by using two methodologies: RT real-time PCR (RT-rPCR) and the Dengue NS1 rapid test. Results: From December 2018 to February 2019, looking both at RT-rPCR [+] and NS1 [+] methodologies, a total of 488 patients were screened and 336 were positive for dengue virus detection (74 children and 262 adults); 273 of these patients (81.3%) underwent viral serotype identification as follows: 12.82% (35/273) D1 serotype, 17.95% (49/273) D2, 0.37% (1/273) D3, 68.50 (187/283) D4, and 0.37% (1/273) D2+D4 serotypes. The RT-rPCR outcomes showed higher sensitivity during the first three days of infection compared to NS1 (92.3% vs. 89.7%). The NS1 increased sensitivity after the first 3 days whilst the RT-rPCR decreased. Conclusions: Advanced surveillance with dengue virus serotypes identification, if performed routinely, may help to predict and prevent further DHF epidemics based on the exposure of the different serotypes during different periods that lead to the intensification of disease severity as a consequence of antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE)
Off-shell effects in dilepton production from hot interacting mesons
The production of dielectrons in reactions involving a_1 mesons and pions is
studied. We compare results obtained with different phenomenological
Lagrangians that have been used in connection with hadronic matter and finite
nuclei. We insist on the necessity for those interactions to satisfy known
empirical properties of the strong interaction. Large off-shell effects in
dielectron production are found and some consequences for the interpretation of
heavy ion data are outlined. We also compare with results obtained using
experimentally-extracted spectral functions.Comment: 14 pages, LaTeX2e, 2 figure
Добро пожаловать на работу в Тайване! Исследование возможностей трудоустройства иностранных студентов
Introduction. Employment plays an important role in vocational development. However, not many studies of job search among international students have been reported. Aim. The current study aims to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, behavioural intentions, and perceived discrimination in the field of job search (JS). Methodology and research methods. The authors used Social Cognitive Model of Career Self-management (CSM) as the theoretical background to explain the relationships among the constructs of self-efficacy, behavioural intentions and perceived discrimination in JS. The study was conducted in a Chinese cultural context (Taiwan) with a sample of 301 international students from Southeast Asian countries. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to test the model about the relationships between the three variables in the study. Results and scientific novelty. The research findings show that self-efficacy strongly predicts behavioural intentions. Besides, self-efficacy partly mediates the influence of perceived discrimination on behavioural intentions. A quantitative research method was applied to investigate the population of international students, which has not been much reported in previous studies. This indicates that the influence of a contextual factor (e.g. perceived discrimination) on behavioural intentions is direct and indirect through self-efficacy. Practical significance. The research findings can be used by practitioners for enhancing self-efficacy and behavioural intentions as well as helping international students to cope with discrimination in the JS process. The authors would like to thank the students for their time and participation.Авторы выражают благодарность студентам за уделенное время и участие в исследовании
Spin-dependent transport in a Luttinger liquid
We develop a detailed theory for spin transport in a one-dimensional quantum
wire described by Luttinger liquid theory. A hydrodynamic description for the
quantum wire is supplemented by boundary conditions taking into account the
exchange coupling between the magnetization of ferromagnetic reservoirs and the
boundary magnetization in the wire. Spin-charge separation is shown to imply
drastic and qualitative consequences for spin-dependent transport. In
particular, the spin accumulation effect is quenched except for fine-tuned
parameter regimes. We propose several feasible setups involving an external
magnetic field to detect this phenomenon in transport experiments on
single-wall carbon nanotubes. In addition, electron-electron backscattering
processes, which do not have an important effect on thermodynamic properties or
charge transport, are shown to modify spin-dependent transport through long
quantum wires in a crucial way.Comment: 23 pages, 4 figure
Behavior of the Quantum Critical Point and the Fermi-liquid Domain in the Heavy Fermion Superconductor CeCoIn5 studied by resistivity
We report detailed very low temperature resistivity measurements on the heavy
fermion compounds Ce_{1-x}La_{x}CoIn5 (x=0 and x=0.01), with current applied in
two crystallographic directions [100] (basal plane) and [001] (perpendicular to
the basal plane) under magnetic field applied in the [001] or [011] direction.
We found a Fermi liquid (\rho \propto T^{2}) ground state, in all cases, for
fields above the superconducting upper critical field. We discuss the possible
location of a field induced quantum critical point with respect to Hc2(0), and
compare our measurements with the previous reports in order to give a clear
picture of the experimental status on this long debated issue.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures accepted for publication in JPS
High temperature superconductivity (Tc onset at 34K) in the high pressure orthorhombic phase of FeSe
We have studied the structural and superconducting properties of tetragonal
FeSe under pressures up to 26GPa using synchrotron radiation and diamond anvil
cells. The bulk modulus of the tetragonal phase is 28.5(3)GPa, much smaller
than the rest of Fe based superconductors. At 12GPa we observe a phase
transition from the tetragonal to an orthorhombic symmetry. The high pressure
orthorhombic phase has a higher Tc reaching 34K at 22GPa.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figure
Burden of injuries in Vietnam: emerging trends from a decade of economic achievement
BACKGROUND: Vietnam has been one of the fastest-growing world economies in the past decade. The burden of injuries can be affected by economic growth given the increased exposure to causes of injury as well as decreased morbidity and mortality of those that experience injury. It is of interest to evaluate the trends in injury burden that occurred alongside Vietnam's economic growth in the past decade. METHODS: Results from Global Burden of Disease 2017 were obtained and reviewed. Estimates of incidence, cause-specific mortality, years lived with disability, years of life lost, disability-adjusted life years were analysed and reported for 30 causes of injury in Vietnam from 2007 to 2017. RESULTS: Between 2007 and 2017, the age-standardised incidence rate of all injuries increased by 14.6% (11.5%-18.2%), while the age-standardised mortality rate decreased by 11.6% (3.0%-20.2%). Interpersonal violence experienced the largest increase in age-standardised incidence (28.3% (17.6%-40.1%)), while exposure to forces of nature had the largest decrease in age-standardised mortality (47.1% (37.9%-54.6%)). The five leading causes of injury in both 2007 and 2017 were road injuries, falls, exposure to mechanical forces, interpersonal violence and other unintentional injuries, all of which increased in incidence from 2007 to 2017. Injury burden varied markedly by age and sex. CONCLUSIONS: The rapid expansions of economic growth in Vietnam as well as improvements in the Sociodemographic Index have occurred alongside dynamic patterns in injury burden. These results should be used to develop and implement prevention and treatment programme
The quantum critical point in CeRhIn_5: a resistivity study
The pressure--temperature phase diagram of CeRhIn_5 has been studied under
high magnetic field by resistivity measurements. Clear signatures of a quantum
critical point has been found at a critical pressure of p_c = 2.5 GPa. The
field induced magnetic state in the superconducting state is stable up to the
highest field. At p_c the antiferromagnetic ground-state under high magnetic
field collapses very rapidly. Clear signatures of p_c are the strong
enhancement of the resistivity in the normal state and of the inelastic
scattering term. No clear T2 temperature dependence could be found for
pressures above T_c. From the analysis of the upper critical field within a
strong coupling model we present the pressure dependence of the coupling
parameter lambda and the gyromagnetic ratio g. No signatures of a spatially
modulated order parameter could be evidenced. A detailed comparison with the
magnetic field--temperature phase diagram of CeCoIn_5 is given. The comparison
between CeRhIn_5 and CeCoIn_5 points out the importance to take into account
the field dependence of the effective mass in the calculation of the
superconducting upper critical field H_c2. It suggests also that when the
magnetic critical field H_(0) becomes lower than H_c2 (0)$, the persistence of
a superconducting pseudo-gap may stick the antiferromagnetism to H_c2 (0).Comment: 15 pages, 20 figures, to be published in J. Phys. Soc. Jp
Bayesian Life Test Planning for the Log-Location-Scale Family of Distributions
This paper describes Bayesian methods for life test planning with censored data from a log-location-scale distribution, when prior information of the distribution parameters is available. We use a Bayesian criterion based on the estimation precision of a distribution quantile. A large sample normal approximation gives a simplified, easy-tointerpret, yet valid approach to this planning problem, where in general no closed form solutions are available. To illustrate this approach, we present numerical investigations using the Weibull distribution with Type II censoring. We also assess the effects of prior distribution choice. A simulation approach of the same Bayesian problem is also presented as a tool for visualization and validation. The validation results generally are consistent with those from the large sample approximation approach
Antiferromagnetism and Superconductivity in CeRhIn
We discuss recent results on the heavy fermion superconductor CeRhIn
which presents ideal conditions to study the strong coupling between the
suppression of antiferromagnetic order and the appearance of unconventional
superconductivity. The appearance of superconductivity as function of pressure
is strongly connected to the suppression of the magnetic order. Under magnetic
field, the re-entrance of magnetic order inside the superconducting state shows
that antiferromagnetism nucleates in the vortex cores. The suppression of
antiferromagnetism in CeRhIn by Sn doping is compared to that under
hydrostatic pressure.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures, to be published in Proc. Int. Conf. Heavy
