Voices as equal as others: a narrative inquiry into the doctoral journey of psychologists and psychotherapists from authoritarian background

    Get PDF
The relationship with power and authority operates on multiple levels, influencing the development and clinical practice of psychological practitioners. This narrative inquiry explored the lived experiences of power and authority during the training of counselling psychologists and psychotherapists from authoritarian backgrounds. To enhance understanding of power differentials within training and supervisory contexts, practitioners’ training journeys were examined against the backdrop of their life stories, early experiences and attachments. Individual narrative interviews were conducted with six UK-based counselling psychologists and psychotherapists, born and raised in countries with authoritarian regimes in Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, and South America. All transcripts were analysed and condensed into narrative accounts. Three overarching themes, called “Silence”, “Otherness and power” and “Transition across time and space”, and 12 subthemes were identified. Nine learning points were offered, following a critical discussion of issues around silence, embodied trauma, cultural and linguistic differences, subtle and overt forms of racism, and intersectional discrimination. The findings highlight the importance of multicultural competency, personal therapy from the outset of training, and fostering more secure attachments within the training setting

How European is the European Central Bank\u27s Monetary Policy?

    Get PDF
Ever since its establishment in 1999, the European Central Bank worked on maintaining relative price stability mainly through inflation targeting. The ECB aims at a target inflation rate below but close to 2%. However, the diversity among the member states in the European Union and the Eurozone requires not only collective attention on the EU economy but also on each individual member state. Some Eurozone member states experience generally higher levels of inflation and higher unemployment. On the other side are countries like Germany which are more concerned with maintaining low inflation only. Many economists and politicians criticize the ECB for its monetary decision-making, which affects various member states differently and could drive their economies out of alignment (Salvatore, 2002). The literature on the topic suggests a theory also known as the German Dominance Hypothesis (GDH), which explains the prevailing role of Germany and German\u27s economic objectives on the ECB decision-making process. The main purpose of this paper is to study the reasoning behind this commonly spread criticism of the European Central bank and test if the ECB\u27s monetary policy is beneficial for the Eurozone members as a whole or only for a select group of countries, which have similar economic profiles. Or in other words, the paper establishes the differential impact of the ECB monetary policies on the Eurozone member states with the expectations that the policy will benefit mostly the German economy and other economies with similar low-inflation targeting needs and will negatively impact others, which face high unemployment rates, in general

Economics of high-rise construction: The feasibility of skyscrapers building in the Russian cities

    Get PDF
The article considers the economic aspects of constructing high-rise buildings in the world and in Russia. Data on the number of high-rise buildings in Russian cities with a million population are presented. It is proved that interest in high-rise construction in Russia has been formed only in Moscow and partly in St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The analysis showed that the reason for this is the expensiveness of high-rise construction. According to the enlarged macro-calculation, the cost of building 1 m 2 of the area of the Federation Towers complex (Moscow City) is about 2710 $/m 2 . Practically a possibility of return on investments in the foreseeable time interval exists only in Moscow. For the regions of Russia this task is rather complicated. Population density in regional Russian cities is quite low, business entities do not have the necessary financial resources for investing in high-rise construction, and investments from abroad absent. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018

Thioamides. XIV.The Oxidative Cyclisation of some Substituted Bisthioamides

Disubstituted benzobisthiazoles (Figure 1.) and bis(benzothiazolyl) benzenes (Figure 2.) were prepared by the oxidative cyc1ization of N,N\u27 -bis(thioaroyl)phenylenediamilnes and benzenebis( carbofoioanilides), respectively. It has been found that in the oxidation of N,N\u27 -bis(thioaroyl)phenylenediamines with alkalilne ferricyanide the isomers of an angular structure (B) were obtained

As a part of our studies on orientation in oxidative cyclization of N-arlythi. oamides, we tum the attention to oxidations of bisthiomides derived from isomeric phenylenediamines or isomeric benzenedicarboxylic acids1• Among numerous substituted thioamides synthetized as yet2 there are not many examples either of N,N\u27 -bis(thioaroyl)phenylenediamines (I), or of benzenebis (carbothioanilides) (II)

2002 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary 35В05; Secondary 35L15We consider the nonlinear hyperbolic equation with delays uxy + λuxy(x - σ, у - τ) + c(x, у, u, ux, uy) = f(x, у) . We obtain sufficient conditions for oscillation of the solutions of problems of Goursat in the case, where λ>0.This work was partly supported by Grant MM-437 and Grant MM-516

Peculiar behavior of the electrical resistivity of MnSi at the ferromagnetic phase transition

The electrical resistivity of a single crystal of MnSi was measured across its ferromagnetic phase transition line at ambient and high pressures. Sharp peaks of the temperature coefficient of resistivity characterize the transition line. Analysis of these data shows that at pressures to ~0.35 GPa these peaks have fine structure, revealing a shoulder at ~ 0.5 K above the peak. It is symptomatic that this structure disappears at pressures higher than ~0.35 GPa, which was identified earlier as a tricritical poin

This paper r eports the reduction with litMum aluminum hydride of 2-benzamido-5-methyl-2-thiazoline (Va) and 2-benzamido- 5,5-dimethyl-2-thiazo1\u27ine (Vb) to give the corresponding 2-benzyfamino-2-thiazolines (Via, b), and of ethyl N-(5-methyl-2- -thiazoline-2-yl)-carbamate (Ila) and ethyl N-(5,5-dimethyl-2-thiazoline- 2-yl)-carbamate (Ilb) to give the corresponding 2-methylamino- 2-thiazolines (Illa, b). No evidence of ring reduction or cleavage was observed either at room temperature or in refluxing ether or tetrahydrofuran. The structure of the products was confirmed by independent syntheses.
