RESULTS OF BEEF CARCASS GRADING IN SLOVENIA FROM 1997 TO 200

Carcass traits (carcass weight, conformation and fatness note and payment class) were collected in the commercial slaughterhouses with automatic data collection for the last ten years. On the average more than 80 % of all graded bovine animals in Slovenia were taken into the study. The average carcass weight of calves increased by 20 kg, but was with 79 kg still very low. The carcass weight of young bulls, heifers and cows varied among different years, but no trend could be noticed, whereas carcass weight of old bulls decreased markedly (more than 50 kg). The carcass conformation decreased in all categories, in calves, young bulls and heifers by two thirds and in old bulls and cows by more than 0.9 of conformation class. The carcass fatness decreased in all categories too. The most pronounced decrease was noticed in the category of old bulls (0.6 class) and the least in young bulls (0.2 class). Most of the above mentioned changes occurred after the year 2002 in the category of cows and after the year 2001 in all other categories. The main reasons for changes in conformation and fatness were probably the changes in cattle breed structure in Slovenia

Paper describes influence of grain refining and of modification on feeding behavior of Al ā€“ alloys. Research was made with the AlSi9Cu3 alloy. Three samples of basic, grain refined, and modified alloy were cast by the newly developed method for determining susceptibility to shrinkage and into the Quick cup measuring cells for simple thermal analyses which were simultaneously done with all these samples. Castings were then analyzed with X-raying, density measurements, visually observed and metallographically examined. Also grain size was determined with light microscopy and polarized light.

The influence of artificial weathering and treatment with FEā€“DBD plasma in atmospheric conditions on wettability of wood surfaces

The treatment of wood surfaces with plasma in atmospheric conditions is a wellā€“known and researched processing technique. In this study, we introduce a new approach of wood surface treatment using a floating electrode dielectric barrier discharge (FEā€“DBD) plasma. The main principle of this kind of plasma is that wood represents an object for charge storage and the potential of the electrodes is changing according to the surround-ings in the moment of voltage supply from high voltage source. The appearance of the discharge electric fields was firstly simulated with computer software and later analysed in real conditions. Additionally, plasma was characterised by optical emission spectros-copy as elemental analysis of the discharge. The designed FEā€“DBD technique was ap-plied to some extent artificially weathered common beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Nor-way spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) wood surfaces, in order to their reā€“activation and improvement of their wettability by commercial water-based coating. The results showed that contact angles of the droplets of applied liquids and waterborne coating decreased with weathering time, as well as after performed plasma treatment process

Averages of bb-hadron, cc-hadron, and Ļ„\tau-lepton properties as of summer 2014

This article reports world averages of measurements of bb-hadron, cc-hadron, and Ļ„\tau-lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using results available through summer 2014. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, CPCP violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays and CKM matrix elements.Comment: 436 pages, many figures and tables. First study of \eta_c, \eta(1760) and X(1835) production via \eta'\pi^+\pi^- final states in two-photon collisions

The invariant mass spectrum of the \eta' \pi^+ \pi^- final state produced in two-photon collisions is obtained using a 673 fb^{-1} data sample collected in the vicinity of the \Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We observe a clear signal of the \eta_c and measure its mass and width to be M(\eta_c)=(2982.7 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.2(syst) +- 0.3(model)) MeV/c^2 and \Gamma(\eta_c) = (37.8^{+5.8}_{-5.3}(stat) +- 2.8(syst) +- 1.4(model)) MeV/c^2. The third error is an uncertainty due to possible interference between the \eta_c and a non-resonant component. We also report the first evidence for \eta(1760) decay to \eta' \pi^+ \pi^-; we find two solutions for its parameters, depending on the inclusion or not of the X(1835), whose existence is of marginal significance in our data. From a fit to the mass spectrum using coherent X(1835) and \eta(1760) resonant amplitudes, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the product \Gamma_{\gamma\gamma} \BR (\eta' \pi^+ \pi^-) for the X(1835).Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, submitted to PR
