The recycling of OMC's carbon reinforcement by solvolysing thermoset matrix. A way of sustainability for composites.

    Get PDF
Originally developed for high-tech applications, carbon ïŹbre/thermoset matrix composites have been increasingly used in leisure and sports industries, for several years. But the carbon reinforcement is the most expensive constituent, and also the most environmentally impacting in the elaboration of a composite part. To this day, no end-of-life solution or recycling process efficiently exists. This paper aims at demonstrating that recovering the carbon reinforcement is possible, technically and economically speaking. Moreover, it is particularly the basis for a life cycle analysis that assesses benefits and environmental challenges of this recycling loop based on the reinforcement recovery by a solvolysis of the organic matrix. Lastly, the lack of data to consider the better end-of-life option (reuse, recycling, energy recovery and material valorisation) will be underlined

Factors Affecting Non-Attendance in Irish Primary Schools and Reasons for Differences between Urban and Rural levels of Non-attendance

This study will investigative the factors that influence school non-attendance, in designated disadvantaged Irish primary schools (DEIS1). Currently, no comprehensive data exists on the factors contributing to the levels and types of non-attendance within the Irish context. Since 2003/2004, the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB, Appendix A) the agency with responsibility for school attendance, has collected specific data on attendance levels and the frequency of non-attendance across all Irish schools. However, this does not provide information at the individual student level (NEWB, 2007)

Social Constructionism with a Twist of Pragmatism: A Suitable Cocktail for Information Systems Research

    Get PDF
The Information Systems discipline is concerned with the identification, planning, development, implementation and management of information systems in organisations. Thus, it is in organisations that the events, happenings and stories of information systems are played out. Given this, the perspective that Information Systems researchers have of organisational reality is most important. This viewpoint affects and impacts upon researchers’ practice, from the identification and choice of the research question, right through the analysis of data to the writing up of the research. This paper explores a particular theoretical perspective on organisational reality. Social constructionism augmented by pragmatism, is described and explored in the paper, and the implications for research Information Systems are considered. It is argued in the paper that this theoretical orientation is particularly helpful in planning, conceptualising and executing relevant and practical research in the Information Systems discipline

Relationships between prolonged neck/shoulder pain and sitting spinal posture in male and female adolescents

Neck/shoulder pain (NSP) is a common problem for adolescents and posture has been suggested as an important risk factor. The aim of this cross sectional study was to examine the relationship between prolonged NSP and habitual sitting posture inadolescents. The habitual sitting postures of 1593, 14-year-old adolescents with and without prolonged NSP were assessed using sagittal planedigital photographs. Cervicothoracic and lumbopelvic posture angles were calculated from the digital images using motion analysissoftware. Adolescents reported experience of NSP by questionnaire. Differences between postures of males and females and thosewith and without prolonged NSP were examined using independent t-tests. The relationships between cervicothoracic and lumbopelvicpostures and presence of prolonged NSP were investigated using logistic regression models controlling for gender.Prolonged NSP was reported by 5.3% of the adolescents, with females reporting a higher prevalence rate (6.5%) than males(4.2%). Females also sat more erect with a more lordotic lumbar posture than males. Adolescents with prolonged NSP hadmore flexed cervicothoracic posture, more erect trunk and more lumbar lordosis. When gender was controlled, only lumbar lordosiswas related to the presence of prolonged NSP
