Music Festivals: A Secondary Market Analysis

    Get PDF
While the majority of the literature on secondary markets for tickets in the entertainment industry focuses on concerts and sporting events, this study aims to shed light specifically on the music festival resale market. Music festivals have risen in prominence in recent years, particularly among millennials, during the time that the internet has dramatically facilitated the resale of tickets through online marketplaces. With many of the top festivals selling out rapidly, a great deal of music fans turn to secondary markets for tickets. However, very little is known about the behavior of secondary markets for music festivals due to information not being readily available to the public. This study uses demand-side data including transaction prices and quantities acquired from one of the largest online secondary ticket marketplaces to examine market behavior. My findings show that on average, prices decline for music festivals as they approach, but that there are years for certain festivals where this isn’t the case. Other results show that markets for festivals with multiple weekends operate differently and that special artist performances such as band reunions can have a significant positive effect on consumer demand. Lastly, the majority of all ticket sales are found to take place in the final 30 days before music festivals transpire

    Pacemapping

Pacemapping (PM) is an electrophysiologic technique designed to help locating tachycardia sources by stimulating at different endocardial sites in order to reproduce the clinical tachycardia characteristics. A recorded electrocardiogram (ECG) during the clinical tachycardia has been conventionally used as reference. Yet, endocardial activation pattern during tachycardia may be utilized as well to guide the procedure. In focal tachycardia ablation, PM guide has consistently provided remarkable outcomes1, while outcomes in reentrant tachycardia ablation are less favourabl

Developing an Automatic Generation Tool for Cryptographic Pairing Functions

    Get PDF
Pairing-Based Cryptography is receiving steadily more attention from industry, mainly because of the increasing interest in Identity-Based protocols. Although there are plenty of applications, efficiently implementing the pairing functions is often difficult as it requires more knowledge than previous cryptographic primitives. The author presents a tool for automatically generating optimized code for the pairing functions which can be used in the construction of such cryptographic protocols. In the following pages I present my work done on the construction of pairing function code, its optimizations and how their construction can be automated to ease the work of the protocol implementer. Based on the user requirements and the security level, the created cryptographic compiler chooses and constructs the appropriate elliptic curve. It identifies the supported pairing function: the Tate, ate, R-ate or pairing lattice/optimal pairing, and its optimized parameters. Using artificial intelligence algorithms, it generates optimized code for the final exponentiation and for hashing a point to the required group using the parametrisation of the chosen family of curves. Support for several multi-precision libraries has been incorporated: Magma, MIRACL and RELIC are already included, but more are possible

The purpose of this paper is to resume the main results yields by an larger research project concerning alternative methodologies to evaluate booth teach and research activities of universitary professors. With that goal, we present some alternatives rankings obtained through different weights applied to the same set of indicators and we pointed out that the final score depends deeply on the weight and indicators selected. Final conclusions deals with the need of links between ranking scopes and goals, and the weights and indicators selected.University teach and research, University Proffesor’ Ranking, Education quality indicators.

A possible cosmological application of some thermodynamic properties of the black body radiation in nn-dimensional Euclidean spaces

In this work we present the generalization of some thermodynamic properties of the black body radiation (BBR) towards an nn-dimensional Euclidean space. For this case the Planck function and the Stefan-Boltzmann law have already been given by Landsberg and de Vos and some adjustments by Menon and Agrawal. However, since then no much more has been done on this subject and we believe there are some relevant aspects yet to explore. In addition to the results previously found we calculate the thermodynamic potentials, the efficiency of the Carnot engine, the law for adiabatic processes and the heat capacity at constant volume. There is a region at which an interesting behavior of the thermodynamic potentials arise, maxima and minima appear for the ndn-d BBR system at very high temperatures and low dimensionality, suggesting a possible application to cosmology. Finally we propose that an optimality criterion in a thermodynamic framework could have to do with the 3d3-d nature of the universe.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure

Q2Q2Pacientes sometidos a Genitoplastia feminizanteIntroduction: 46,XX Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) remains the first cause of genital virilization and current surgical techniques aim to restore female aspect of genitalia while preserving dorsal neurovascular bundle but not at the expense of not preserving erectile tissue. We aim to report our experience with a new surgical technique for clitoroplasty, completely preserving corporeal bodies, neurovascular bundles without dismembering the clitoris, in four patients with over a year follow up. Materials and Methods: After IRB approval four patients with 46,XX CAH and Prader 5 and 3 external genitalia, underwent feminizing genitoplasty. Complete preservation of erectile tissue was accomplished without a need to dissect dorsal neurovascular bundle. Glans size allowed no need for glanular reduction and there was no need to dismember the corporeal bodies. Results: Four patients 12 to 24-months-old underwent complete corporeal preservation clitoroplasty (CCPC), mean age was 18.5 months, mean follow up was 10.25 months. Vaginoplasty was performed in all patients with partial urogenital mobilization (PUM) and Urogenital Sinus flap (UF), only one severely virilized patient required a parasagittal pre-rectal approach to mobilize the vagina. We had no complications until last follow up. Conclusion: To our knowledge, we are introducing the concept of CCPC without the need of disassembling the corporeal bodies, neurovascular bundle and glans. It stands as a new alternative for feminizing genitoplasty with complete preservation of erectile tissue and no dissection of neurovascular bundle. Although there is still lacking long-term follow-up, it represents a new step in conservative reconfiguration of the external virilized female genitalia.https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9675-5963https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0363-5485https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2231-4321Revista Internacional - IndexadaBS

Coenzyme q10 microparticles formation with supercritical carbon dioxide

    Get PDF
Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant used on cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and cancer diseases. Its hydrophobic nature do limit its applications, because human body absorbs it with dfculty, that is why it was proposed to increase its bioavailability by diminishing the particle size using supercritical carbon dioxide. It was determined experimentally the phase behavior of the coenzyme in a supercritical system. The equilibrium data and a factorial 2k experimental design were utilized to find how the shape and size of the microparticles are affected by temperature, coQ10 concentration and nozzle diameter. Microparticles were characterized using infrared spectrometry and chromatography. For verify the fundamental chemical structure, the size and the shape of the microparticles was used scanning electronic microscopy. It was found a significant decrease in particle size and a modification of physical structure. The antioxidant power of coQ10 after micronization was measured, showing an increase of this property. Finally, in order to evaluate the bioavailability, the kinetic of solubility was determined in ethanol, having a substantial increase on solubilization speed of micronized coQ10 compared with the commercial one
