Deflexiones transversales de radiación luminosa en estructuras prismáticas de cristal líquido
A novel structure , based on a wedge shaped configuration, is presented . This structure , previously used in one of his forms, for refraction index measurements is analysed in this paper. The results obtained give the possibility of his use in electro snd magneto-optical modulation and deflection
Optical Multistability and Oscillations in Hybrid Optical Bistable Systems with Short Delay Times
Optical instabilities in the output light from a bistable optical device (BOD) with a delayed feedback was predicted by Ikeda [1]. Gibbs et al. [2] gave the first experimental verification of this type of instabilities. From that time several groups have studied the instabilities of the BOD for different relations between the delay time tR and the time constant ح of the system. In a previous paper [3] an empirical and analytical study of instabilities in hybrid BOD was reported by us. The employed set up is shown in Fig. 1
Digital light beam deflector with liquid cristal (1980)
In this letter , we report a new method for óptical switching based on the electro-optical properties of liquid crystal materials and, in particular, of the nematic type. The basis of this new method is the use of twisted wedge structure that has not been reported before elsewhere. In the past several years , great efforts in integrated optics have been made to develop optical switching devices with fast speed by using electro-optic, acousto-optic or magneto -optic materials. A mechanically operated óptical switch made of grade-index rod 1enses and e1ectromagnets has been proposed too . Switches of this kind include one input and two output waveguides and, depending on the app1ied voltage, one incident light on the switch exits either in one or another of the two output waveguides
Light level to electrical frequency conversion with hybrid optical bistable devices.
A new concept in light level detection. The basis is the use of hybrid optical bistable devices working in oscillatory mode. The obtained instabilities show a correspondence between their frequency and the laser light intensity
Estudio de las trayectorias de una radiación monocromática a través de un capilar con cristal líquido esméctico
The thin lens method, used for the interpretation of interferometric data - obtained from smectic liquid cristals, has been modified. The analysis employed has - been derived from the one presented by Granjean. The theoretical results are in a good agreement with the experimentals values from other authors
Total switching of unpolarized light with an electrooptic liquid-crystal device
This paper reports a new family of multimode fiber-optic switching devices based on nematic liquid crystal devices reported by us previously. These devices have a wedged structure as the main characteristic. Several modes of behavior cart arise depending on the internal configuration of the molecules.
As we show, fhey have the possibility of total switching of unpolarized light with a very simple structure, low insertion losses, and very low operating voltages These new devices should find a wide range of applications in fiber-optic communication systems
Laser pulse shaping with liquid crystals (1982)
In this paper we report a new method of laser pulse shaping by the use of liquid crystals as non linear materials. The basis of this method is similar to the one reported by us for an hybrid optical bistable device, but with a different electronic circuitry and feedback
Optical memory with twisted nematic liquid crystal (TNLC) devices
A design for obtaining memory in optical bistability with liquid crystals is reported. This design uses optical feedback on a twisted nematie liquid crystal ( TNLC ) through an optoelectronic system. A constant input light is the read-out and its value depends on the desired initial working point, usually at the bottom of the T(V) vs. V curve. Light levels depend on the feedback.
An input light pulse change the working point to the top of the transmission curve. When this pulse vanishes, the working point remains at the upper part of the curve. Hence a memory function is obtained. Minimum pulse width needed was 1msec. ON-OPF ratio was 100:3
Analysis of homogeneous waveguides via the meshless radial basis function-generated-finite-difference method
The radial basis function generatedfinite difference (RBFFD) method is applied to the analysis of homogenous waveguides. To this end, the Helmholtz equation and the boundary conditions are collocated on the waveguide cross section. At each collocation node, derivatives are locally approximated by RBFFD formulas based on polyharmonic splines supplemented with highdegree polynomials. As a result, a sparse matrix eigenvalue problem is obtained which allows cutoff wavenumbers and axial fields to be calculated. To illustrate the accuracy of the method, we consider a semicircular and an eccentric circular waveguides. This work was supported in part by the Spanish Government (MCIU/AEI) and the European Commission (FEDER, UE) under Research Projects PGC2018-098350-B-C21and PGC2018-098350-B-C22
